Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IsraelAt first we were out in the downstairs room and it had a bit of a moldy smell, we told the staff and they moved us to a room on the top floor which was perfect.
It was spectacular. The staff was more than helpful and kind, the facilities were beautiful. Everything was just amazing.

PortugalDon’t have any problems with inclusion of children but just a noisy party with young children left without proper attention of parents - disrupting both in dining room and lounge. Somewhat spoilt full enjoyment of otherwise perfect evening.
Such a wonderful place, it’s comfortable, ambience is chilled and staff exceptionally attentive!

ItalyThere was a little bit of a smell in the room, we booked a room where we could bring our two small dogs, but probably the previous client had a dog which left some urine. A part that it was nice and clean.
Breakfast was really good with fresh quality food and a decent variety. Service was excellent. We had a great dinner at the restaurant, the for was delicious and the service outstanding. The hotel is very well located, in the countryside with a big forest nearby, but close enough to the city of Setubal to where you can drive in 8 minutes.

GermanyWe did not get the room we officially booked through booking. We are not sure how much of a difference it made, but we think the room we were supposed to have would have been from a higher price category than the one we got in the end because it contained a room upgrade.
The location is great. The view is amazing. The breakfast is great. The Spa Massages are nice! The interior of the hotel is very nice and the lounge areas invite for nice wine consumption.

CanadaThe bed was uncomfortable and we had expected it to be better given the cost per night of staying here. The bathroom would benefit from a fan as it got quite steamy after taking showers.
The staff were very kind and approachable. We missed breakfast by 10 minutes the next day as we were not told during check-in what time it was at -yes, the pamphlet inside the room did state the times but we were extremely tired after travelling all day and neglected to read it. The restaurant was nice (we decided to stay there for dinner as we were super tired) it was an expensive meal but worth the price as the food was fabulous. The house red wine was one of the best we have ever tried.

United KingdomI was not able to use their electric charging station, but as I have a hybrid, it wasn’t a big issue, they tried their best to get it to work. For some reason it wouldn’t work for either of us.
good location, some of the friendly staff, and most helpful in all departments, we had both lunch and dinner, it was my wife’s birthday and they made a big fuss of her

United StatesWe loved everything about Casa Palmela. There were no negatives!
We really enjoyed our stay thanks to the fine accommodations and attentive staff! We especially appreciated the food, fine wines and room attendants that routinely made sure that our room was clean and stocked! Joao Sousa made sure that our dinners and wine were perfectly paired and presented! We cannot thank Joao enough for his graciousness! He commands the dining room like none other I’ve seen anywhere in the world! Between the property itself and staff, our visit to Casa Palmela was an experience that we shall always remember! We look forward to returning soon!

SwitzerlandService is something they need to work on. Staff are friendly and attentive, but a lot are either untrained or unsupervised, we are not sure which. Reception staff have no knowledge about activities and don‘t help in coordination. They just give you an email address, which is unsuitable for a house with a 5 star rating. Coordinating their tour operators is something reception should do.
Lovely location & woods. We loved the restaurant, when Juao Sousa was on service. When he was there service was attentive and worked really well with local food & wine recommendations. Some of the other staff seemed untrained or unsupervised, which we felt on the days when Juao was not there.

Switzerland- Their Concierge and reception service are not ideally set up, although very friendly. Reception staff seem insufficiently trained, but really should take on a larger role in organizing activities and manage coordination with the experience tour operators. Having to coordinate yourself and prepay everything is not a good fit for a 5 star hotel. - Service personal seem not fully trained. Especially noticeable were 2 instances, when the lead waiter was not present and 1) the breakfast waiter was rather studying pages, than approaching customers to ask what coffee they would like. 2) At dinner the 3 waiters present stood together in the corner, not watching out whether dinner guests needed something, but therefore chatting so loudly among themselves that it disturbed our dinner conversation for a while. Not a good fit for a 5 star hotel. - Overall we wondered, whether hotel management was around during our stay (or maybe off themselves, as it was the off season), as we never perceived them and staff seemed free to act as they wanted without oversight. The notable exception being Juao Sousa, who ran a tight ship with excellent service in the restaurant, when he was on-duty. Sadly we significantly felt the difference btw the first 3 days when he was there and the last 2 days, when he was not
- The hotel is beautifully renovated and situated. - The breakfast is lovely and very well prepared. - We loved the restaurant for dinner. Our favorite waiter was Juao Sousa, who we presume was the service leader. Whenever he was on, the staff were attentive, all dinner and wine recommendations just went seamlessly and he recommended Portuguese specialities we would not have tried otherwise. Needless to say we ate & drank more than usual - the best way to experience Portuguese culture 😉 - The wine list had non mainstream, but high quality Portuguese wines, that we greatly appreciated. - We booked two of the Junior Suites and staid in wonderful historic rooms, that were large and practically equipped. - Housekeeping is a gem. - The hotel sits on top of a large area of private woods with great 20 - 90 minutes hiking trails. - It has a real luxury farm feel with horses on the areal, vineyards all around, the woods full of oak trees & 3 well cared for farm dogs. Loved the relaxation in this beautifully curated nature. - Great outdoor spaces inviting you to chill outside in this beautiful countryside.

GermanyEven in perfection, there is always something that can be improved and there is one thing that I believe would be worth to improve, which is the breakfast. I was looking to see more home made products such as an offer with a home baked cake or pancakes. It had everything but it was nothing extraordinary.
Casa Palmela is an exceptional hotel, located in an amazing property, with a 5* service. I would like to thank again Sr. Joao Sousa for his kindness and help to surprise my husband. It is these small things that really matter and made this weekend such a special one to all of us.
