Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwitzerlandI have to say, I expected the room to be a bit more well’maintained (several marks on the walls and windows) and larger in size.
The adaptation of the ancient structure with the modern one is awesome. The hotel’s peaceful armosphere makes you feel at home. Excellent breakfast. Very kind staff. The view of the city of Porro from the room is stunning.

United Kingdomforewarning that the entrance to the hotel does not look like the modern web image would have saved a few minutes searching for the way in but I now understand the intent to blend the original with the new, and obviously any taxi driver would know the location (I walked from the metro station)
Outstanding and attentive service from the owner and all front of house staff after my baggage went missing on fight to Porto. Went well beyond the normal level of service. Breakfast was great. Hotel fascinating. Location so close to the Douro riverside and numerous restaurants was very convenient.

DenmarkWe really enjoyed the beautiful and quiet garden, and the beautiful interior of the hotel. And the location was perfect: not in Porto itself but on the other side, in peaceful Vila Nova de Gaia. But in walking distance from everything. The staff was very nice, very helpful, very professional. We mentioned to the staff, that some people (we) have parfume allergies, and that the washing powder is heavily perfumed. This is a general issue in hotels world wide, and this use of perfume in the surroundings is absolutely unessesary, and forces people to be exposed to it. (In my opinion it shoulf be regarded the same way as exposure to smoke). The staff immediately accommodated us on this.

United KingdomWe stayed in rooms in the old part of the hotel and it would have been nice to have a rail above the bath to help with exit and entry. I would have preferred bigger towels.
Great location and very attentive staff. Very comfortable rooms. The garden was lovely to sit in in the evening. There was a large choice at breakfast.

SlovakiaWe were offered nice coffee in breakfast room only on our last morning. The air conditioning in room is a bit noisy. If you turn it off at night and open the balcony instead, the cats are trying to get in. Weird smell of the room all the time.
Kind and helpful personnel. Nice and very clean hotel. Good distance to everything. Basically in the middle of port wine cellars. Nice view to the WOW district.

DenmarkLoud music from restaurant area up to the back yard. Breakfast was boring. And even though it was quiet with guests, some of the things on the buffet wasn't filled up. When the breakfast was included in the price it wasn't bad, but I wouldn't want to pay to eat the breakfast.
Nice hotel, with a nice location close to all the portwine houses. It was clean and light.

United KingdomBathroom with no window or ventilation. The window faced a beautiful garden, though it was not possible to open the window.
Great location, good breakfast. Modern room and facilities. Staff is nice and helpful. I booked the economy room but there were no windows (actually, 2 but facing a common area inside the hotel, therefore no fresh air or privacy). This was not very clear from the images and description shown online. I pointed this out and was offered a different room, facing the garden without extra charge. I appreciated the way they dealt with the inconvenience

IrelandIt's very difficult to find the hotel as the sign outside is tiny and very inconspicuous. You can easily pass it by and continue down the road.
Everything was great. The view from the ground floor room was exceptional - through a full length window to the garden outside, with lemon trees and beautiful green lawn. Loved the little 'balcony' that takes you out 'into' the garden. The whole concept was super. The large open space of the foyer, beautifully decorated, the tiles and exposed rock in the reception, the cute honesty cafe and bar, the outside seating area in the garden. The breakfast was good, and the room very nicely decorated. The location in Gaia, across the river from Ribiero, made it easy to get to the river - 2 minutes walk. Then cross the bridge to arrive in Ribiero, about 15-20 mins in total. Or turn left at the river on Gaia side to access the cable cars to take you high above the city.

PortugalThey ask for a credit card, even though I'd already paid, and didn't accept my Portuguese debit card or amex. I didn't ask but not sure how we'd have sorted things if my family member didn't have a cc. I was meant to be staying on my own and this family member joined me last minute. Perhaps I missed this warning but I suggest for places that require a specific type of bank card on arrival, this should be noted right up front.
Very comfortable beds, very quiet, but still easy to walk to. Beautiful building, very clean. Shower pressure was very good. I agree with other reviews that breakfast is nothing to write home about.
