Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IrelandLocation was great! 10 min drive to old town and 5 to the new town, staff were very friendly especially at the bar by the pool, food there was also really good, however cleaners came quite early and unlocked our door multiple times when we were still sleeping which then woke us up, other than that the place is great, definitely recommend to anyone planning on coming to Albufeira!

United KingdomCan't really complain about anything to be honest, every place has some bad points, this one had a couple too, but so little and meaningless that is not worth mentioning
The whole set up was amazing: portuguese style with Mediterranean flowering plants making beautiful arches, all the details like decoration on the walls, ceramic pots with plants, all made me feel like I'm away from the place I live. Felt like I'm in traditional Portuguese village.

United KingdomThe accommodation is situated in a peaceful location, within easy reach of the busy areas. During our stay the temperature was too hot to walk to the strip, previous reviews had recommended the Uber app. We found this a reasonably priced, reliable way to get around. The studio we stayed in was roomy with a lovely view. We found the staff to be friendly and willing to help when required. We were very happy with the accommodation and would stay again if we travelled to Albufeira with a desire to stay in a property slightly out of town. Thank you

United KingdomBeds could be bigger that would make the difference.
Most importantly the Balaia Sol was clean, both the room and exterior pool area etc. It's quite basic but the room was sufficient for all our needs. A really good shower and cooking facilities, a fridge which was definitely needed with the heat in the week we were there. The beds were okay, could be a bit bigger, that would make a lot of difference to comfort. The staff are quite friendly and work hard, they don't allow guests to cause disruption around the pool that is good. It makes for a relaxing experience, also there is no banal thumping music pumped out so you can chill out properly! Overall we would go back, that tells you everything you need to know.

United KingdomThe swimming pools were rubbish. Water was always cold, didn't realise they don't have heated pools and all flies and bees lying around dead inside the pool. Only one pool in the entire resort though. They tried to clean every day but still it being open to sky pool, lot of insects were lying dead inside. Definetely not more than 2.5 star hotel. Not many activities to do in hotel other than snooker pool table. They don't have restaurant inside but have a quick canteen kind of thing and everything was pretty damn expensive. A bread packet was 6 Euros, crazy. Small 100ml fresh juice was 3 euros ..I didn't bother to try anything else as it was very expensive.
It is very well located, close to all amenities Staff were very nice, friendly, helpful in many occasions and welcoming. Not very beautiful rooms but does the job, value for money. Neatly presented to their best capacity. Towels were ripped and torn but that's ok. Checkout and check in was very smooth.

Irelandwould have liked small things like a pot scrubber and small bottle of washing up liquid for the kitchen and some more items available to buy at hotel rather than have to go immediately to town : bread rolls, milk, tea, coffee ... the essentials.
My second visit to Balaia Sol Hotel. It is a beautiful little hotel ideally situated within walking distance of beach, shops etc but far enough "out of town" to be peaceful and relaxing. Since last visit there is an ALDI only a few hundred meters distance which is great now.

United Kingdomwifi did not work in the room, just poolside. While poolside bar is open, there is not always someone there, so it can be a while until one gets service. It would be great if it offered the option of breakfast.
pool was nice, the room was spacious and comfortable. There is a poolside bar open until midnight, which is convenient.

ItalyThe guy at the reception was very kind and thorough in his explanation. The location was good, a few minutes by far outside of the city center, surrounded by nature. The room was spacious, the kitchen could have used some additional equipment (e.g. strainer, peeler, but especially dishwashing liquid and kitchen sponge).

BelgiumIt was far from Albufeira city itself. 2,5 km is mentioned but it was around 3,5 km or more. If u plan to hire a car than it’s not a big problem. The kitchen could have more equipment like soap, sponge and kitchen paper. These are very small details. We had a very great stay. Thanks
It’s was a very beautiful place to stay. It had nice rooms. The staff were friendly. The swimming pool was a plus.
