Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PolandVery narrow steep staircase. Room looks much smaller than in the description. Clean but smelly bathroom. Very narrow shower. Drawers in the cabinet move very hard- alternation would be appreciated. Mirror hanged just over the floor- if you are 165+ cm high it's completely useless.
It's very clean. Good location in the heart of Alfama. It's a side street so you are quite well isolated from the main streets noise. Kitchen very well equipped, fast wi-fi. Efficient and quite air-condition. Good contact with the owner.

United KingdomIt was on the ground floor which I hated much prefer the other 2 units. Also there was no washing machine liquid which lowered my rating, if you are advertising a washing machine then expected at least enough to do one wash. It's impossible to buy a small amount of machine liquid.
Stayed many times in the building like location and apartment.

United KingdomThe shower is small and awkward to manouver to pick up shower gel etc. Perhaps a small caddy drilled to tiles in the corner might help ....... Anyway, we managed, but both slim.
Great location Clean studio Air conditioning We didn't cook, but the kitchenette looked well equipped. It's a compact, budget studio and good value for money. It's not perfect, but then it's not a 5 star hotel! We enjoyed our stay in room 2 and the area.

United StatesThe taxi would not take us to the door because the streets were too narrow, so we had to lug our suitcases, Then there were about another 30 narrow steps up to the top apartment in the building. The bathroom shower is tiny, maybe 2' x 2', and a big person would not fit there. We were okay, but just a warning.
The room was very nice, with a vintage flair, and a big window. The bathroom was modernized and clean, and it also had a kitchenette, plus the best surprise was a washer for our clothes. That was gold! We went to a nearby laundry up the street to dry our clothes because the hanger was outside our window and we didn't have time for that. It was also located on a cool street where there is a restaurant and entertainers singing Fado, the traditional Portuguese music. It was easy to walk to all the central tourist areas within 10-15 minutes.

NetherlandsIt was a bit smaller than expected. We were in the room with the blue bathroom & the green/blue details, which is right next to the front door. You can hear quite some noise from the upstairs neighbours from the other 2 appartements.
The location was really good!

PortugalThe downside was HUGE COCKROACHES, and they CAN FLY in the dark. One fell on the pillows when we were asleep. It was disgusting. Hope we did not bring home any on our clothes. I guess it was the last time we stayed in private apartments in the city centre. It also says in the instructions that a beautiful aloe in a pot serves as a guide. In fact, this aloe seems to be dead and it is better not to be guided by it.
We stayed up for two nights and three days in a super-tiny room with a shower, WC and kitchen in it. On the bright side, the apartment is equipped with a hair dryer, iron and a kitchen with all kinds of appliences. I would also like to recommend a 24-hour cheap parking lot. It cost us 27,5 euros for three days. There is open parking and parking under the ground. And it's a few minutes walk from the apartments. It's called "Parking Terminal de Cruzeiros de Lisboa" and is under the port terminal building.

United StatesThe address on the Booking.com site and the one I got in the email the owner sent me just before my stay were different. I went with the website address, but luckily I copy pasted on Notes the owner’s email for other info it contained. Without internet access, ( I only travel with Wifi ) if I only had the Booking.com address, I could never have found the location. It was really scary. The owner has to fix anything confusing on all the websites she uses. It is really really important for travelers who don’t know the place. Also the lock on the door wouldn’t turn no matter how many times I tried. After more than 30 minutes of trying I asked a man, a total stranger walking on the street, to help me. It also took him a while to turn the key in the key hole. Even after I got the hang of it, every time I tried to get in, it took me a couple of tries. It is a hard lock to open especially when one is new to this lock. With no front desk or anyone to take care of issues on site, it was really scary.
The apartment I stayed had everything anyone needs or thinks of potentially needing for a longer stay.

Germany- On my first day there were some issues concerning cleanness and hygiene in the bathroom. But the host quickly came around to solve the existing problems. - thin walls: you can hear every step your neighbor on the first floor takes and whenever someone enters or leaves the house. But it seems like that's an issue with many accomodations in Lisbon/Portugal.
+ the most comfortable bed I ever slept in - even more comfortable than my own bed at home! + really great location in the center of Alfama, but nevertheless in a quiet neighborhood + in a pedestrian area = no cars + perfectly equipped kitchen (even a waffle iron was there) + key lock with numeric code = you as a guest are very flexible concerning check-in & -out + the host was very attentive, replied quickly to every single message and wants to make sure you really have a nice time at the accomodation! I'd definitely come again.

Russia1. They "play" with the price in BOOKING: in big letters they put 1 price, then in small - extra fees. Tricky and leaves a bad feeling 2. Location: they do not inform about A LOT OF STAIRS TO CLIMB IN THE STREET. THIS IS A TORTURE WITH A BIG LUGGAGE. CARS/TAXIES CANNOT ACCESS THOSE STREETS. 3. Also, the window is to the street. One cannot open normally a window, because it is literally on the pedestrian way. Prepare, the room is not ventilated. 4. The ROOM: it is NANO, with low ceiling, small window and little space. The PICTURES in Booking.com CHEAT. 5. THE BATHROOM HAS FINGUS (I HAVE PICTURES). 6. The pillows are the cheapest ones and of bad quality. 7. CUSTOMER'S SERVICE: this is the worst part of this apartment. First of all, I informed them beforehand about a late evening arrival. Then I couldnt open the box with the keys, also I got mad to climb the luggage with the stairs. The customer service has another country's number (France) and they told me: " IT IS LATE AT NIGHT, WHAT CAN WE DO?" GUYS, FYI: THE HOTEL BUSINESS IS 24/7. I AM NOT GUILTY, MOREOVER I PAY YOU MONEY. IF A TOURIST HAVE PROBLEMS, THIS APARTMENT WILL NEGLET ALL, DON'T EXPECT ANY HELP FROM THEM. OVERALL, I PAID 88 EUROS FOR A VERY DISSAPOINTED STAY AND DISGUISTING CUSTOMER SERVICE. THE OWNERS OF THIS APARTMENT LITERALLY WANT JUST TO EARN MONEY AND DON'T CARE ABOUT THE CLIENTS. PS. Booking.com are also very cunning nowadays, they cut any possibility to contact them and direct to the apartment owners, who neglect all and are stubborn.
All that could be nice of this apartment was ruined by its weakpoints
