Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomCouldn`t fault anything.
Loved the location which was at the heart of the old town. The vintage 28 tram went right past outside the hotel - which I loved.

United StatesThe charge for a coffee pod. Lack of recommendations for dining and sightseeing when asked. We paid 8$ for a breakfast that was subpar at best. We went next door and saw fresh food and much larger portions for half the price . The least they could do is keep a pitcher of ice water in the reception area and not charge you for a coffee. They also charge . 50 cents for a to go cup. I feel at the price point they are charging it could have been included. Also I was quoted 30$ for a ride to airport from hotel. I used u er and only paid $15
I liked the proximity to the view point. I liked the spacious apartment. The bed was very comfortable

United StatesI wish that breakfast was included with the rate. Many other comparable hotels offer free breakfast for the same, or even slightly cheaper rates. Having to make reservations for a continental breakfast and having to pay for it is unnecessary now a days. This is my only complain about an otherwise great hotel.
We enjoyed our stay! The place was clean and neat and the staff was great (thank you Isabela for being so helpful and friendly). Some other reviewers have complained about the tram noise, but it really wasn't that bad. It sounded no different than staying at a hotel near an airport with the occasional plane taking off. It was a bonus that we could catch Tram 28 right in front of the hotel. Be aware, however, there is no elevator. But, the stairs were not bad.

New ZealandNot sure what the purpose of having a fridge is when the power turns off when you leave the room. Otherwise nothing I dislike!
It was in a great location with the trams, only a 20 or so min walk to the centre. Great cafe next door too. I think I got upgraded because my place was huge! It was clean, super quiet and comfortable.

United StatesOnly thing is the walk from the train station up the hill was significant on the first day. Going down the hill on our way out was much more pleasant.
The location was fantastic. In the middle of Alfama. The neighborhood was quiet at night but close to plenty of fantastic restaurants and cafes. Loved that the hotel was on the cable car path which was nice for getting around and fun to see everyday. The room was a great size and everything was clean and well appointed.

FranceA pity that it took some finding. No. 38 Escolas does not actually exsist- there is 35, 37, and 39. Asking in the Taverna we were directed to an unmarked door where we found reception. They, then after registration, took us back to the apartment. Not a problem but be aware. The apartment is accessed by 5 flights of straight stairs and no handrail - a problem for my wife who walks with a stick. Access was possible but slow. Just be aware if you have a handicap.
The suite was amazing, a huge open main room, two bedrooms, one with en-suite with views to the garden. Separate loo and shower for the second bedroom. Fully equipped kitchen and beautifully clean. Room service every day. Garden with sun loungers and parasol completed the facilities. Staff at reception very efficient and a quick early check-in. Excellent resturaunt 2 minutes away and the No. 28 tram ( access for 3.10€ connecting to the main square after 7 stops), passed within 50cms of the front door (!!!) with a stop 2 minutes away. Certainly a very strange experience to squeeze up against the wall to let the tram trundle by your feet.

United StatesIt is difficult of a car to stop and bring your luggage to the place.
I liked the location in a historic place. From the outside we did not expect it to be that modern and spacious. Nice artwork, industrial style withy a courtyard that has a nice fountain.

IrelandReception area a bit dour….. but this a minor issue for overall facility.
Excellent location in Alfama. Reception area a bit dour but excellent spacious bed room. I loved the sound of the tram rattling by early morning…. Crisp linen. Decent bath towels( changed daily). Informative & helpful staff on a 24 hour reception. Safety box in room. Availability to have your luggage stored here post check out , pre Lisbon departure ,which is great. Felt a safe environment for solo, female traveller. 👍
