We were informed a few weeks before arriving that the aircon was not working and would not be fixed in time for our arrival. We were given a bottle of Pico wine as a bit of compensation but it did not really make up for this. We had to sleep with the doors open as it was so hot at night and got bitten a bit by mozzies.

Lovely property in a good location not far from one of the best natural swimming pools on the island. The owner was flexible with our arrival. The kitchen had most of the things we needed.

Noise and Inconvenience Every Friday and Saturday night, a live band performs directly nearby (about 250 meters away) until around 11 PM, followed by a DJ who plays until an outrageous 6:30 AM. Sweating profusely and deprived of sleep, we decided to leave the accommodation the next morning. The host and manager were unyielding, forcing us to pay the full amount for all nights despite our departure. Cleanliness Issues I won't dwell too much on the fact that the shower was moldy and barely clean, and that we did not feel comfortable sitting on the toilet. However, it's important to mention to emphasize the overall lack of care and cleanliness. Conclusion It genuinely pains me to write this, but I can only attribute malicious intent and greed to the host, especially given the refusal to offer a discount for the broken air conditioning. If there are any doubts, I am willing to share a video recorded at 5 AM, documenting the room temperature and the DJ's noise level. I hope this review helps other travelers avoid unnecessary costs and unpleasant experiences. Nevertheless, we ended up having a wonderful stay on Pico Island at the Wine Company. A clear recommendation is the hike up Pico Mountain, but do note that surefootedness is advised.

Our Background We come from the beautiful city of Munich and enjoy traveling the world. Given our demanding jobs, we tend to indulge in more extravagant vacations and are willing to pay above-average prices for high-quality accommodations. This does not mean we are spoiled, but cleanliness and proper maintenance are crucial for us to enjoy our limited vacation time. About the Accommodation and Host Unfortunately, this accommodation and its host do not belong to the types of places we would consider revisiting. To be honest, we fled the place after just one night. Luckily, we found refuge for the remaining three nights at the Azores Wine Company, which we highly recommend. We traveled during the peak season, specifically at the end of August. Knowing that Pico offers limited accommodations and everything gets booked months in advance, we secured our booking early. The host was well aware of this scarcity and exploited it shamelessly. Four weeks before our trip, we received a message in Portuguese (which looked like a standard confirmation at first glance) informing us the air conditioning was broken. We could cancel without penalty but would not receive any discount. Realizing we had no alternative by then, we bit the bullet. On-site Experience Upon arrival, we realized that the small windows did not allow for any airflow, forcing us to keep the doors open to maintain a temperature below 30 degrees celsius. This, unfortunately, invited all sorts of pests, including mice, into the accommodation at night. Although we had four weeks to brace ourselves for such conditions, a bigger issue arose. Definately fridge has its problem - its door didnt close closely enough. But as i send a massege to the owners and got their immediate response it is definately solved so far.

Vast, stylish house in ex winery. Spacious living room, cosy bedrooms. Very nice surroudings with vineyards all around. Walkable distance from oceanic pools with showers, even closer to good restaurant and bar. Place for parking the car. Living on the slope of mountain guarantees view od ocean and neighbouring island.

Terrible musty smell! We're thinking we were the first guests of the season but discoverd the front load washer door was shut and it smelled of mold/must! These washers can't be kept shut- as this is what happens! The smell premeated in the kitchen drawers! Even with windows opened; the smell didn't dissipate. We even bought some air freshner, boiled cinnamon and lemons but they didn't help much. Then the w/c smells started.....sewer smells! We know the plumbing on Pico is poor, but this place was either due for a septic pump out or had plumbing problems.... we even ran water in the bidet thinking the "trap" was dry but it didn't help. Many light bulbs burnt out ( not a hugh issue as lots of pot lights) but outside ones too burnt out in different areas. Beds were quite firm and squeaky. There were no basic kitchen supplies such as seasonings.oils, coffee/tea; paper towels, pot holders and only a sponge for washing and 2 towels for drying dishes. No extra garbage bags. I found this unusal. Fry pans were well used, no ice cube trays. Only 1 remote control for a/c had batteries.... not handy to share for bedrooms. Luis brought some but the wrong kind and never returned with correct ones. The shower floor was cement esque and needs some tile/clean bath mat or other material as surface cleanliness hard to judge. Screens were on the door windows but not the main windows=mosquitoes and flies! With some attention to the smells, screens, and some small touches would be a great improvement. An information booklet about general housekeeping/instructions for the property and area ammenties would be helpful.

The unique building was laid out well with a bonus w/c in a seperate room from the main accomodation. Good indoor couches for seating. Great closet areas in bedrooms. Good hot water for shower/dishes. Lots of patio area to sit out if weather was good, and covered area if rainy. A 5 min walk to the ocean to swim at the "piscina" -beautiful outdoor area for swimming in a protective ocean pool with w/c change rooms. A restaurant within walking distance. It is a very quiet residential area; except for church bells and roosters but they were pleasant. Partial views of the ocean from one part of the patio and Mt Pico if yoiu stood in the driveway. good privacy; with grocery shopping and other restaurants a short drive away. We had trouble with the wifi and microwave and Luis was good to help fix/address the problems.
