“Friendly and attentive staff. The entire hotel is clean, in good condition and well maintained. Good location for exploring the rest of Serra de Estrela as it saves you at least an hour’s worth of travel every day compared to towns in the valley.
Restaurant has a large enough menu to try something different every evening and all is delicious.

“Sambuc’asa exceeded all expectations. The room was very clean and comfortable, recently renovated to a high standard. Beautiful views of the mountains from the bedroom and shared terrace. The shared kitchen was well equipped for cooking. Nuno was the perfect host - friendly and attentive, lots of knowledge of the area, genuine commitment to sustainability. He has put so much care and attention into the details - soaps and produce locally sourced and handmade. The breakfast was the highlight of our stay - delicious cheese from the region, jams and conserves grown and made by his friends/family/locals, freshly baked bread and biscuits/pastries delivered every morning. The village was peaceful and charming, great location for exploring the national park. Lovely river beach 5 mins walk away. Would highly recommend.”
“Sabugueira is Portugal’s highest village which is pretty cool. This accommodation is very nice, quiet and the host is lovely. Although her English is limited we could easily communicate. The rooms are big enough and the bathrooms are clean and well equipped. Hot water runs instantly from the shower which is nice. Beds are very comfy too.
When you’re in this place, check out Restaurante Martin’s a few hundred meter down the road. They serve massive, delicious portions of local foods at next to nothing prices.”
