The shared bathroom for double bedrooms needs to be labeled. Strange that you’ll have to strip the sheets/pillow cases & take them yourself to reception upon checkout.

Has a peculiar ambience but comfortable enough for the one night stay. Be mindful that the Receptionist may not be local so you’ll have to find out information about the facilities or area on your own or elsewhere. Friendly, quiet, private enough, clean, safe. It is a backpackers/hostel so don’t expect a five star treatment.

Was a super friendly bunch staying within the Hostel. The rooms were massive sized and what we needed.

The atmosphere of this place is second to non. It is chilled, relaxed and offers all you need for a backpacker stay. Bed was comfy, if a little wobbly. Multiple kitchens on site, and cleaning facilities right behind.

People coming to the room without knocking. One said he was housekeeping after opening the door before 10am on the first day for a two night stay. The other one didn’t knock and didn’t mention who she was, just asked if there was something left on top floor. I’ve slept really well but my partner thought it was noisy early in the morning. After all it’s an hostel, can’t expect to be quiet.

It's a place full of young people and we are not so allowances have to be made. But the noise died down pretty well around 11pm so no complaints.

It’s a busy time of year so dormitories were full

The self catering kitchens have improved since I was here previously, and there is also a kitchen serving evening meals, mostly pizzas I think, which is well thought of. I love the outdoor spaces and the beautiful murals. It’s quite quirky, self contained, and yet the town centre is very close by

The kitchen is too small for the amount of people staying there and it seemed a bit run-down, was hard to get in there to cook dinner for the family. No hot water in our room by the time we arrived in the evening. Bunk beds upstairs very uncomfortable. Also a bit weird having to strip your own beds in the morning when someone has to come and clean the room anyways.

The character of the place was pretty cool. Served it's purpose for a 1 night stay.

Needed hot plates in room for cooking as the kitchen was overcrowded with minimal facilities and cleanliness. Didn't like the idea of doing room service ourselves by proving sheets and pillow cases with keys

The music playing in the common areas all day long. It's audible in the rooms as well and is honestly really irritating. Also, please fix the cutlery drawer in the kitchen, it gets stuck often.

Lovely homey feel. Beautiful paintings everywhere. Lots of plants, great TV lounge, overall very cozy.

We really liked it there. Great staff, super friendly and helpful. Everything is nicely decorated/painted. Its very spacious. The bathroom and showers have been very clean and looked super new. Our room was (12) was very quiet. The surfboard rental and transport to the surf spot was easy. Well organised. We would have loved to stay longer. We felt very comfy and cozy in our room. Not only for "young backpackers". As a mid 30s couple great as well :)

Sheets were not super clean since only “half” the duvet sheet is changed daily - assume this is a weird New Zealand thing since we’ve seen it in many places.

All the common areas are outdoors so it is better to visit this place in the summer months. The town is pretty dead in the winter and spring.
