“The first thing you notice is the scenery - a lovely short drive from Waitomo Caves, the little forest that the driveway winds through (where we think we spotted a kea), to the stunning view from the cabin itself, and the lookout slightly further up the hill. The warm welcome from the host (and the dogs). The cows, including 2 calves, were brought down to the yard in front of the cabin and guests could hand feed with hay. The cosy cabin itself with big windows to enjoy the view and the ethanol fire to keep you toasty on a chilly night. Various cereals, milk, yoghurt, bread etc provided for breakfast. The sound of the rain on the roof at night.”
