Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. United StatesSimply amazing. Spent my birthday here as a special indulgence and couldn't be happier I chose to. Very discerning, polite and helpful staff who took initiative without us even realising something was amiss (we'd inadvertently swapped rooms around with friends and theirs had additional amenities for their toddler). The facilities were impeccable - clean, well maintained, quiet. The rooms were cool and even smelled lovely when we arrived, and each room had a private view. Bicycles on the property let us bimble from section to section without long walks (as the property is quite big) and that added to the charm. Excellent restaurant with good portions and choices, and great service. We were there mid week and there were relatively few guests, which made for en even more special experience - we had the cenote to ourselves for hours. Birdlife was fabulous, and we just enjoyed the sights and sounds in this incredibly soothing place. I am so very pleased and would love to return one day.

United KingdomNothing!
What an amazing place! Where to start ... well there are so many different places to swim (lake, 3 pools, cenote) all in really beautiful surroundings. Or you can help yourself to bikes and explore the outer grounds, seeing exotic birds and iguanas, the Mayan village and the myriad of buldings, including a church. Then you can use the kayaks, paddleboards and gym, or just sunbathe on the deck by the lagoon, or perhaps take a well-earned rest on your huge bed in your room that looks like it should be in Interiors magazine. And all this after you've had a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit and Mexican scrambled eggs, served by really lovely staff (all the staff were excellent). And not to forget one of the highlights of the trip, a tour of the underwater river with the expert guide, Gonzalo. No spoilers, but it was the best tour we have ever been on, and he was so knowledgeable and helpful throughout our stay. All these activities are included in the price, which adds to the feeling of zen - there's no hard sell, nobody telling you where you can or can't go. I would recommend going when we did - early April, after the US holidays. The weather was hot but not oppressive, and we had the place almost to ourselves.

United StatesThey need more staff! It's a big property and there just wasn't enough staff to maintain it. This was really the only bone to pick we had with Wakax Hacienda. If they had more staff, they could have snacks available near the pool - for example. Our rooms were rather far from the restaurant so we had to bike over there even if we just wanted a snack. And while everyone else was always eager to help us, the staff at the restaurant were always quick to say "no" saying that they were too busy (whether they were or not).
This is a fantastic alternative to downtown Tulum or Tulum's beach strip. The grounds are beautiful, the swimming in the quarry and the cenotes was great and so unique. Gonzalo gives a wonderful cave swimming experience and everything is just so beautiful and well thought out. We will definitely come back.

United KingdomThe only downside is the food in the restaurant. By the end of the 4D3N stay, we’ve tried a lot of the items on the menu but none of them were really impressive. The cocktails were good, Mexican / latin dishes were OK (Yucatan breakfast, guacamole and chips, ceviche, toastada), but the pizzas tasted like they were made from frozen and the pasta was subpar. Prior to this, we had been in Mexico for 2 weeks and found the food in Mexico City and Oaxaca overall to be out of this world. Would be good if the restaurant could reflect this somehow, or otherwise introduce a few menu-of-the-day dishes on top of the main menu, to keep things fresh?
We booked Wakax for 3 nights at the end of our honeymoon to treat ourselves and we have absolutely no regrets. Loved the property! Loved the tours provided by Gonzo - highly recommend the cenote tour it is not to be missed. Everything was simply magical! There were lots of places to explore within the grounds of the hotel. There were 3 swimming pools so you can take your pick, the main cenote / lake by the restaurant and another smaller one. It seems everywhere you look, there was a body of water. The paddle boards and kayaks were all free to use. We also hired a car which we made use of at least once a day to head out for food.

United StatesStruggling to find anything wrong with it! The only TINY thing would be the menu at the one restaurant - could do with being a bit bigger if you're eating 3 meals a day there for 4 days. But really, no issues - this place is paradise.
I genuinely don't know where to begin. We spent 4 days here and I have never experienced anything like it.A friend recommended it - it was pretty hard to tell exactly what it was from their website. What it is ,is the creation of a genius mind. From the moment you arrive, as the taxi drove us (family of 4) up a mile or 2 from the main road, you're transported into a secret hideout in the middle of the jungle. Apparently there are 45 rooms (we had a double room suite, which was bigger than most apartments I've been in!). They had done me some birthday balloons and cake (apparently my mate had texted the tour guide he had met last year, and he had taken care of it - that's how cool these people are.) We spent the first day chilling by the restaurant next to the most beautiful cenote. Daybeds, kayaks, loungers, paddleboards, you just help yourself. The next day I looked at the map they had given us and we cycled (they give you bikes if you want) 5 minutes to another part of the hotel just to explore. We then found a HUGE hacienda, with a pool which went underneath the building, like something out of Venice. We could so easily have just spent the 4 days there at the restaurant / cenote, without realizing this part of the "hotel" existed. And so it goes on. The joy of this is place is it is so huge you feel like you're exploring and finding new places to hang out at. A swimming pool here, a cenote there, a yoga studio / gym overlooking the jungle / cenote, a bike tour through the jungle, swimming in all the lakes, underground cave diving. All included in it. The owner apparently created this to create a legacy to Mayan architecture and culture. It's impossible to describe how utterly idyllilc it is, how chilled and peaceful it is. It was really only in the evenings that we even realized there other people there (at the restaurant)!

Wakax is beautiful, luxurious and relaxing! A historical estate still owned and used by the wealthy family who built it 100s of years ago. The menu has great variety and the food is tasty, healthy and attractive. We ate all our meals at Cocol, the romantic onsite restaurant. Gonzalo took us on amazing tours of underground rivers, cenotes and jungle terrain all on the property. He told us how to snorkel with turtles and enjoy the beach just minutes away from Wakax’s fine facilities and beautiful swimming pools. Gonzalo is a fascinating naturalist and cultural guide. All the staff was upbeat, helpful and welcoming. I highly recommend Wakax and look forward to returning!

The hotel is an idyllic setting with the beautiful cenotes to swim in. There is lots of space so no crowding and no rush for the sunbeds. The accommodation is also spacious and well furnished, The food was also excellent.

NetherlandsThe price you pay makes this for us not to give it a 10 rating. Prepare yourself as this is one of the most expensive resorts we have ever been in Mexico. Not only the price of the hotel, but also the food in the restaurant. Besides that, the portions you get in the restaurant are not so big. You can compare it a little with Michelin-star portions, the quality is really good but you don't feel really full after it. We asked for some more bread and they gave us 2 small sized pieces of toast and we had to pay 20 pesos for that. I mean come on: you pay so much already for the hotel and the food and they charge you extra for 2 pieces of small toast. Also we were hoping to join more tours from Gonzalo, but he was providing the same tours for the next day as well. Some feedback would be to have some more variety and provide different tours every day (and not the same tours two days in a row). This hacienda is really great, but after a few days you have seen it all so I recommend to stay like 4 days, unless you are here for your rest and recharging but keep in mind you pay the price for it as it's not cheap. We went to Tulum sometimes to have a dinner there because of the expenses. That's why we only saw tourists and rich business men in the hotel whom could effort this and no local Mexicans. Also we asked the reception how to arrive to the hotel and they said to take a taxi from Tulum as it's about 15 minutes by car from the center of Tulum. But there are little van shuttle services going from Tulum to Playa del Carmen all the time which cost 25 pesos per person where the taxi charged us 600 pesos. DO NOT TAKE A TAXI: TAKE THE SHUTTLE VANS! You can recognize them by the white colours and some red text on the vans. We did not like that the reception did not tell us and therefore we paid a 550 pesos more. As last part once again: not the fault of the hotel, but keep in mind there are A LOT of mosquitos here!
The hotel is a great place to get your rest as this is in the middle of the jungle in Tulum. It's a very convenient compound with little houses as hotel rooms which makes it really cozy. Also there is a lagoon and some cenotes with thousands of plants and orchids which makes it look like a fairytale. It's all free of charge and included in your stay to enter it. The rooms are extremely comfortable: the bed, the shower, a living room included, a lot of space. For 2 persons it's really huge and you have a lot of space and privacy. Also there is a refrigerator, water bottles and a good coffee machine (nespresso cups) with some capsules they provide you, so we had delicious coffee! Like I mentioned in the beginning: it's really really quiet here unlike the center of Tulum with all the traffic noise. You don't hear anything here so we slept like babies. The bed does not have a mosquito net protection, but fortunately the mosquitos don't enter the room. But keep in mind there are A LOT of mosquitos outside the room so quickly close your hotel room door as you enter or leave it. There is a building where free yoga classes are provided and also a nice gym with proper equipment with a great view on the lagoon. The cenotes and the lagoon have a very nice temperature and you can take amazing pictures. There are some tours you can join which are provided by Gonzalo, a great guy with a lot of humor who puts a lot of effort to make you have a great time! He explains a lot about the hacienda history and the Mayan culture. We really recommend to join a tour if you decide to stay here. Also there are free bikes you can rent and you are free to bike around the property. This was really relaxing for us. A long story short: this hotel makes you recharge yourself in all quietness in a astonishing jungle in Tulum!

United KingdomNot so much a didn’t like but advice - while the property is only a short 15 minute drive to Tulum you benefit from having your own hire car as the taxis are very expensive - esp if you’re going to town and back once a day.
They’ve realised the concept of relaxed luxury 100%. Great spacious casitas with fantastic beds, incredible property to explore on free bikes, delicious breakfast, wonderful pools and the lake for swimming & kayaking. And as people say don’t miss the underground river tour w Gonzales - great guide and a special once in a lifetime experience.

United KingdomI think the food menu could be changed more frequently, and an option for more small dishes or light bites. If you are spending a day by the lake you don't always want a whole meal. Also, coming from the UK, i was naively surprised by the influence of USA culture including tipping etiquette. That was my only negative tbh.
This massively exceeded expectations. The hotel buildings are so beautiful and the grounds natural and full of wildlife. The way the buildings are set into the landscape is perfect. We would love to come back when money allows and have been recommending to everyone! Every time we left to go somewhere else for the day, we just wished we'd stayed at the hotel!
