The private rooms are extremely basic. Our air conditioner didn’t work great most of the time. (after they repaired it it worked wonderfully)

The staff is incredible. The activities every night are excellent. You can swim in the lake Anytime you want. Came here with my wife and some friends for our first Bacalar trip. The staff is so friends and welcoming. Everybody’s like a big family. They have these activities and games every night. We had a guacamole contest. There was a salsa dancing class. There was a party a lot of locals showed up at. We booked a lagoon tour through the hotel, which I highly recommend our tour guide was great and the lagoon is truly breathtaking.

Dorms were not great, paint peeling off and the bathroom lock didn't actually work in the two rooms I stayed in. Like other hostels AC is only from 8 pm to 11 am

All the staff were great, really friendly and smiley. Carla was fabulous and helped me book a taxi, sorted yoga and booked the boat tour for me. Made everything very easy. Great location right on the water and a fab deck for swimming. I didn’t eat so can’t comment on the food. But location was great and lovely place to chill and be right on the lake. Sunrise yoga was fabulous too.

The rooms for big groups are quite small.

The location is amazing. Being right in front of the lake allows not only a great view but also allows swimming and enjoying the crystal blue water. Some people from the staff were very helpful as well.

Had a great stay in the Yak - perfect balance between party and chill I would say. There are more community evenings as well as music but also chill ones. The vibe and the staff is super friendly. also close to other places if you are looking for restaurants and bars.

The rooms and beds are very basic. But since they are only used for sleeping this is perfectly fine.

The location is amazing; you wake up each morning and just by walking 30m you're in the amazing lake. Besides this the hostel is very social; many things are being organised by them such as boat tours or sunrise supping (definite recommendation).

We stayed in a private room - the room is definitely of a more basic standard (as expected from a hostel), in terms of pricing it is probably a little more than I would have paid for even in hotel. There was no hot water in the shower at any time in the day. You do have to request fresh towels (which is no problem). We were told in advance about noise, however the rooms have very little shade from light (see through doors and curtains to outside), so if you are here for rest - this is most definitely not a restful accommodation. We were possibly a little on the older side of the age range staying there - it is defo a party hostel

Location of property and access to the lagoon were great. The staff were very helpful. Clean drinking water available. The bar is lovely and food is reasonable. The staff are helpful with ordering taxis. Location wise - it is very accessible to the main food spots and shops.

This place was fantastic! I really needed a break and took off . I had to work as this trip wasn't planned but the wifi works great and they have a work space which was quiet for calls /meetings. After work I was just steps away from the lagoon and some drinks right at the bar. In the morning I had a nice cup of coffee and just enjoyed working with such a peaceful view. Santi at reception was amazing ! He made me feel welcome and gave me lots of tips and info. Very attentive. Wednesday's Neon party is amazing the vibe here is great everyone just wants to have a good time. Met some great people. I will be back!

Yak is quite a bit more expensive than other hostels in the area, but I didn’t mind paying as I wanted a nice hostel on the lagoon, but I don’t think I would pay extra next time. Anyone can walk into the hostel, as its got a bar and restaurant, so the use of the pier isn’t exclusively for guests. The room smelt really bad and it was messy - I think they need to clean more often. The bunk beds weren’t up against the wall, so my things kept falling down the side, and when you’re on the top bunk that’s annoying. My pillow was so hard and lumpy, and my towel had holes in it. My experience wasn’t awful, but I think for £15+ a night things could be improved.

The location is amazing right on the lagoon. Most of the staff are really friendly, and they have lots of fun activities to get involved with, so you can meet people.

It can be a bit loud, specific the music in the bar, which you hear in the hostel. Hard to speak to eachother as well when the music is so loud.

If there were some more comfortable seats for chilling out that isn't in the sun Beds are comfortable but similar to what I imagine being in a prison cell.

Lovely location on the lake with easy access for swimming. Room and bathroom was decent. Air con, fans, windows opened. Nice staff, not far to go to main square for restaurants.

The beds can have a upgrade.

The hostel is located very nice next to the lake. You can swing directly into the lake. The staff is very nice too, especially Santi. A very nice energetic friendly guy who is willing to help with everything. Thanks.

The smell outside room 12 was pungent. The bathroom floor was always wet and toilet sometimes hard to flush. I sometimes felt like I was having to bother restaurant/bar staff to order food or pay the check. Not much actual “service”. I wish the dock at lounge chairs to make it absolutely perfect!

The VIBE! Santiago at the front desk was amazing! I arrived so early on a night bus and the overnight security kindly let me in and gave me a cup a coffee. I got to watch the sunrise and enjoy the water before checkin. The rooms had AC in the evening. I loved the sunset kayak tour we did with David and the sunrise yoga. The property has good areas for lounging and the access to the lagoon is 100.

The place is amazing with the sunbeds by the lagoon and the bar. The activities suggested are great (painting, guacamole class…).

Bathroom has some mold. Dock to access the water was under construction when I was there but I think when it is finished it is a nice dock to access the water. Music at the bar was for me sometimes too loud during the day.

Amazing location, good kitchen, nice that you can book all tours in the hostel. Nice activities. Very clean!
