Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandThe only downside for me was the fact that smoking is allowed in the same place people are eating, and the smoke drifts into the kitchen and upstairs to where the bedrooms are.
I stayed in a single then a twin room - both were great, although the single room was quieter. The whole place was clean, I liked the shared kitchen and the courtyard, which has a fire pit. There’s also a communal sitting area upstairs. The breakfast was really good - fruit, toast, eggs, pancake, coffee/tea - and because I don’t eat animal products I was offered porridge and almond milk which I really appreciated. There’s a TV with Netflix. There was a place to store my bicycle. Staff were excellent. Location hard to beat.

Switzerland- Very hot upstairs, you have to open the windows to cool down after a hot day (our room had no windows, just the door to the chill area) - One of the staff members was getting herself tattooed while laying on the breakfast table without any protection > an absolute No Go (!) and very unhygienic - Staff ok: not friendly, not unfriendly - Never filtered water available - In the mornings a lack of paper in the bathrooms - Some shower heads weren’t functioning well - Music sometimes to loud, although almost no one was there
PRIVATE ROOM + Small but cozy room, for only €2.50 each more you have a private room which is nice > don’t expect too much + Chill area outside the room > very nice decorated and comfortable + Perfect (!) location + Breakfast included (sometimes cold eggs / pancakes, especially when you come later) + Luggage storage after check out + Social hostel where you will easily meet people

Excellent value for money! Snail is perfectly located in downtown San Cris, less than 5 minutes walking to the Zocalo. The hostel is super clean, with modern equipment (TV with Netflix, good Wifi, electric and USB sockets at each bed, etc.). It can be cold at night but there are extra blankets so it's really not a problem. The patio is a real plus to eat your (free!) breakfast in the morning or to relax after a long day wandering in the city and its surroundings. The staff was super nice and helpful! I 100% recommend Snail Bed and Breakfast!

GermanyThe hostel was perfect for staying in San Cristóbal! It’s perfectly located and very clean. You get a tasty breakfast to have a good start into the day. Also the personal was veryyy helpful and friendly. Just be aware: it can get a little cold there. But you can get extra blankets! Also pay attention with the free water - it wasn’t good for us. Stay safe and buy plastic bottles instead.

ColombiaNoisy all hours of the day and evening (including the staff). The free breakfast was small and they didn't have most of the items for both days we stayed. Lots of people were smoking pot quite frequently, and the room was smaller than the photo implied with very low ceilings. Our beds also had sheets made of a kind of artificial fleece material which was weird.
If the hostel was completely quiet then this place would be fine but not special.

United StatesThere’s only one Ecofiltro water filter, and so it is empty most of the time, so people have to buy water bottles which is not very ecological. Despite the “Respect our space, no drugs” signs, some of the staff members smoke dope which invites some guests to do the same. I don’t mind people doing whatever they want, but I don’t like inside spaces smelling like dope, or feeling like I have to go for a walk or I’ll start feeling high.
The location is great: between the center of town and the church of Santo Domingo and the market. Breakfast is really good, but it is pretty much the same every day: eggs, beans, pancakes, and white-bread toasts. Sometimes they offer quesadillas. I have seen some people request oatmeal, and the staff makes it for them. The cleaning staff does a great job keeping the place clean.

United Kingdomthere's no soundproofing, so if you get the room over the common area you're basically in the room with whoever is in there at any time, every time the door slams, or when people come back at 4am talking in there

ItalyThe location is great, the staff is very lame. All the times I went to the reception they were on the sofa scrolling their phones, I mean, I understand there's empty times but at least pretend you're working. I asked to the people preparing the breakfast if they could make me some eggs for the next day since ai was leaving earlier than breakfast time, they said yes but never did it. I got very sick my last night there, I went down to ask for a thermometer but I couldn't find anyone. When one of the guys came up knocking on my door to tell me the shuttle was there and I told him I was very sick he barely cared, they didn't have a thermometer, nor heating pad, it took half an hour to make a tea, and they were super rude to a friend that came to bring me pills. The room I stayed in was the smaller I had ever been in, which wasn't a big deal, but from 10 am to late afternoon in sunny days is impossible to stay there as it becomes hot as an oven. They play loud and horrendous music from 10 am on, and a night at 11 i asked if they could lower it a bit they went like 'oh, there's music on?!'. I've been in Mexico and Sancris several times and never had such an experience.
