Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesBathroom door didn’t close from the inside, toilet clogged easily, a bit of sewage smell, and no paddle boards or usable kayaks with paddles.
This is a lovely place! The lagoon out front is awesome and perfect for a swim. The cabin we had was great. One thing I didn’t like is that you can’t close the bathroom door from inside the bathroom. I was with my husband so no big deal but for others it may be a bit uncomfortable. The location is beautiful, however, you need to travel about 15 minutes off-road to get there. It’s not near Bacalar’s town at all— after the dirt road (which really requires all-wheel drive) you must travel on the highway to get to town. We had my husbands truck so it was fine for us but did make the trip a bit different than we thought because we had to plan for being in town all day as the trip back and forth throughout the day would be too much. If you want to chill at the facility the duration of the trip it would be perfect and relaxing, however there were not exactly suitable paddle boards or kayaks to use. I think if we had that, we could have stayed at the property a whole day without needing to travel to other parts of the lagoon for activities.

NetherlandsFirst night I had a nice warm shower, yet second night we had to move to another cabin for which we had to pay quite a bit more and there was no hot water. It was raining all day and I was sick so I was very dissapointed. I told them and e was supposed to turn on the hot water again, but next morning it was still cold...
The place is absolutely amazing and stunning. It is right at the lake so you can swim and they also have kayaks to just use. The woman speaks perfect English and is super sweet and helpful. The food is also really nice and there's nice places to chill.

NetherlandsRestaurant is really overpriced for what you get, and the food is nothing to write home about. Was also disappointed in the 'continental breakfast' provided which consisted of several slices of fruit and one slice of toast, compared to other hotels we stayed in on our trip this was far below par. The hotel is far away from the town and you need a car to get around, but we knew this in advance. As the road to the resort is extremely bumpy and unpaved this is not something I would recommend doing in the dark. We chose to stay in town until early evening for an early dinner, and then had drinks at the hotel in the evening. Lastly, important to note that there are no windows you can close in the rooms, only screens, which makes you feel a little insecure at night as everything is open. We didn't have any issues however and felt perfectly safe otherwise, the huts/rooms are also situated far enough apart that there is enough privacy.
Quaint small-scale resort on the shores of the lake. Beautiful and quiet location where it feels like you have the whole lake to yourself. Appreciated that kayaks were available to be used for free as well. The rooms are in somewhat primitive huts with thatched roofs which personally I found charming (others, including my boyfriend, may disagree). People should be aware there is no air conditioning but only a fan, which I didn't find to be a big problem. When the power went out during the last night and we were left without a fan for several hours it was less fun however, although everything was working again by morning.

United StatesTheir food prices are steep, but the breakfast of fruit and toast is sufficient. The road to the villa is rather rugged and very slow going, and the hotel is 20 minutes from the town of Bacalar. If you want to be near Los Rapidos or Canal de Las Piratas this place will take you a bit to get to there so be ready to drive a little.
It has a beautiful and quiet view of the lagoon with ample seating. It is more like glamping without windows, only screens on the windows. There were no loud noises or animals waking us up, it was a nice quiet site with amazing views.

United StatesBungalow did not have private curtains on window facing front desk-had to hang clothes over windows to avoid being visible at night with lights on. Restaurant was just ok and over priced
Beautiful location with amazing kayaking and quiet setting. We were able to drive the rough road in a Camry. Loved having a private patio. The stargazing from the lake was stunning. Staff extremely friendly.

United KingdomPlease expect that the path to the road is approx 2km of dirt track. We had read this in the reviews and as long as you are prepared it is OK. The owner also sends you detailed instructions before you arrive. As it is so secluded, it is beneficial to use the restaurant there at night. (I wouldnt want to drive the dirt track in the dark!!!! But i guess you could take a taxi). We had burgers in the restaurant and they were really tasty. Cocktails were also great. Restaurant is a little expensive, but no other places around really.
This place is an oasis of tranquility. Great access to the lagoon with a private pier with hammocks and sun loungers. There is free kayaks too. The huts ("cabañas") look great and have a really authentic feel. Decoration in the bedroom is fab. There is mosquito nets to all bedrooms. Windows have no glass, just the mosquito nets and white curtains, but this was not a problem for us. The bed was really comfy. Unfortunately there is no wardrobe or place to hang your clothes but we only stayed one night so not an issue for us. The staff were wonderful and super attentive. They offer free wifi and free parking They offer free breakfast which is coffee, toast and fruit. It was delicious. If you want a bigger breakfast you also have the option to order more food

CanadaIt is tricky if you don't have a car because it is far away. Expect to pay 250-300 pesos for taxis each way if you want to go to the city for dinner or to visit. The food there is very expensive and ok but not great.
Great cute place to relax, beautiful views and cozy cabins with kayaks and SUP

GermanyBrakefast was very poor, just fruits and coffee. For normal breakfast, we had to pay(an omlete costs more than 10usd). The restaurant is very very overpriced, and the portions are very small, like appetisers. In the end, they overcharged us about 30usd for what we ate at the restaurant. Unfortunately, we checked that after we left. We asked for the bills, but not a single reply received. For our villa, there was no warm water at all, but that was just fine for us.
The location was very beautiful, all the surroundings in the villas were well maintained with plants and trees. It is a very calming place, far from Bacalar City, but just in the lake.

PolandPictures of that place are misleading, it seems they were taken when it was brand new and now it is worn out. It is very overpriced. Included breakfast was quite poor, just fruits, one toast with butter and coffee. Wifi is not working in the bungalows. And the worse thing is the road that leads there, it is terrible, not sure how you drive it after rain. We were happy that we stayed there knly one day, for that price you can find much better accommodation.
Staff was friendly. Nice view at the lagoon.

United KingdomNothing! It was a really fab stay.
What an incredible find!! As soon as we saw this place, we were convinced - but it’s even better in person. The whole setting is tranquil and having access to the water made our Bacalar experience. We kayaked and snorkelled out from the dock and lazed around on the sun beds. The cabana in the evening is great to relax in and we even saw fireflies dotted around. The cabin itself was rustic, but stunning and the bed was huge and beyond comfy. We had one of the best sleeps we’ve had since being in Mexico. Some of the rooms do have aircon (which isn’t advertised), but even without it, being next to the water really cools things down and we would have been fine with only the fan. All in all, an exceptional experience.

The location is far from the city, but if you want a more secluded, and quiet area this is the place for you. Otherwise, if you refer city life, choose somewhere else. This place is great for those who want to just chill and enjoy the hotel.

BelgiumVery pricy. Unfriendly welcoming staff in the first they. They refused to serve coca cola in the evening, only cocktails. The breakfast was good but way too few. There was some fruit and one piece of bread. The rooms were not clean. There was dust everywhere and there were dead muskitos on the wall in the bathroom. This is actually the first time i rate a place a 6. Price quality was absolutely the worst.
The beds were very soft and nice. The lady who made the breakfast was very friendly
