Neighboring nightlife was a little loud

We absolutely loved our treetop Cabana, the outdoor kitchen cabana was so fun to cook in. The staff was amazing. Our host. Mauricio was wonderful. The staff works so hard to keep everything clean and perfect. The beach was so beautiful and the water was amazing.

We had the big house in 3 floors with kitchen and a roof top with an amazing view. The owner, Maurizio was so kind and friendly. He made us feel comfortable and gave us many good suggestions on what to see in the Tulum area.

We could have more little lightings in the house, as in the bathroom. That's all we miss a bit.

The situation of those little beach houses was well made. Directly connected to the sea and daily well mainted, the complex was clean, sweet and beautiful, as our house. People were nice and discrete, thank you.

It would have been good to be given more information on swimming. it is safe, are there undercurrents. Also a small brochure on places to go, cost effective ATM and cheap eats would have been good. The local area is brimming with restaurants, clubs and bars and they are more expensive than london. Best to travel into the town for food but its a long way. We cycled on the free bikes but wouldn’t want to cycle at night.

If you like a well designed and elegant place without lots of bling this is perfect. Lovey rooms, nice staff and a quiet atmosphere amidst what feels like a very preppy expensive local scene. There is a great open air kitchen and the rooms are super clean.

Absolutely nothing!! Perfect place, unless you're looking for a party where you stay, and we weren't.

A complete Oasis! Down from the party zone, so it's quiet and has a perfect private beach. Close to some of the best casual and upscale dining experiences in the area. One of the best communal kitchens I've encountered in all of my travels around the world. Soooooo many amazing things about this property!!! I will always stay here from now on when I'm in Tulum.

We had one small incident, but it turned out okay in the end. My friend and I rented bicycles from the property for the day for 100 pesos each. We rode them down the road and less than an hour into having them, we were very hot and we drove past a beachy area, so we pulled them over to dip our feet in the water. We left them for five minutes and when we came back, someone had stolen them. We took a taxi back to the resort and they were very nice and understanding about it. They said it happens often in Tulum, but that we would have to pay for them. We understood the need to pay for the lost property, however, we wished there was some sort of written agreement beforehand or a warning that this situation happens sometimes. We were asked to pay 3000 pesos per bike but my friend thought that was too expensive. She raised her concern and they decided to reduce the price to 2000 pesos per bike. We appreciated their willingness to negotiate. It was an unfortunate situation but as I said, it turned out okay in the end. We understood the need for us to cover the cost of the stolen bikes and we were happy with the way they handled it.

Playa Selva is a beautiful little spot. We loved that it had a quiet, quaint feel to it. It was great to be able to have the option of sticking around the property for a relaxed, jungley vibe while also being close to some of the more lively areas. There were also lots of options for restaurants nearby. Many of the restaurants in Tulum are quite expensive, however, we were glad that there were a few cheaper/more authentic options within walking distance. The staff were very friendly and they kept excellent care of the grounds and the rooms. Would definitely stay here again!

J'ai adoré Playa Selva. I loved the bungalow it was everything we wanted for our vacation!! The location is prefect... it was close enough to walk to all the action but far away enough that it was very peaceful once inside. The beach was mere steps from our front door and was prefect for watching the sunrise each morning. Truly magical!!

A friend and I came to Tulum for a week and are not the partying type of people. She found Playa Selva and we absolutely loved it as two single women enjoying a break from our respective businesses. It’s at a quieter spot along Tulum beach (rare to find this nowadays) and is the perfect relaxing escape right on the beach. It’s small and does not have a resort feel, much more a tropical getaway vibe. There is no A/C but that was not a problem and I am someone who usually has to have one. All of the staff, Pepe, Manuela (online with the booking), and Mauricio were beyond helpful and we even got a private tour of a couple Cenotes with Mauricio one day! age was an excellent guide and we had soooooo much fun!

Unfortunately, it is not possible to give more than 10. Because I would do that. The huts are just perfect. The beach is breathtaking. I guess it is the best place in Tulum Beach Area. Highly recommend!

Pleasant natural environment, cool cabanas and basic amenities
    • Leisure trip

The entrance of the hotel, through a small door opening inside a heavy wooden gate, is more like a ranch or camping entrance, and the reception area is disappointing in terms of welcoming space, working space for the staff and decoration. That's something Playa Selva could enhance, with some basic upgrades. It took one or two days for us to get used with bathing in "brackish" water, prepare to become a little sticky (glamping vibes), and the hot water wasn't always available. Terrace of La Palma is great but some maintenance on the floor would be useful for comfort and safety. The main carretera were in some parts absolutely muddy and full of potholes when we arrived, we entered Tulum mind-blowed by that. Many big trucks bringing provisions or construction materials keep passing by. Locals would say that they fix it and some time later it comes back again because of high humidity of the mangrove ecosystem around. This way, commuting through the street can be super stressful, so to stay in a good hotel by the beach and well located, becomes even more important. There are very few illustrative pictures available of the common area and accommodations, and that made my decision making process more difficult, i very much considered the guests reviews. This way i include here some personal pictures in order to help others in the booking process.

La Palma room is super charming, with a nice straw high ceiling, pleasant "studio" disposition and basic decor details such as the shell ornament. The terrace area is a plus to watch the palm trees and the sky, and do some yoga. The path through the beach has a simple and beautiful gardening with greenery, and the white color of the bangalos shine the light around creating a nice vibe. The lounge seats on the beachfront are simple but were confortable and super. The hotel is located at a more preserved and calm area of Tulum beach, which was great. We also made use of the available kayak, and had a fun afternoon at the sea. The bike renting service the hotel provides was also useful, wifi had great signal. The hotel is very well located within the carretera Hotel zone, and i confirmed that when biked until Azulik's gallery. Tulummunchies was life saving to get some tasty food with more reasonable price, in a laid back ambient.

Maybe a hairdryer but the fresh air did the job just fine!

We loved the location on the quiet end of the beach and Playa Selva is one of the only remaining original resorts in Tulum. So glad we found it otherwise we would have hated our stay because Tulum is now a destination for the young and wealthy. Pepe the manager and Mauritio the owner were very welcoming and helpful. Love the communal kitchen where we met other guests. Rooms are very clean and tastefully decorated. We are so glad we found a piece of paradise in the now upscale, busy and loud Tulum.

No aircon but wasn’t really needed. Possible freezer/ice availability as well as the individual fridges in the communal facilities for each room.

Great staff. shout out to Pepe and very relaxing and peaceful. Brilliant central location on the beach and far less pretentious than many so called influencer boutique (ie ridiculously expensive) properties that surround it. Great value for money. Stayed in the ground floor room La Duna.

It was an amazing stay- exactly what I needed.

Playa Selva was picture perfect. It is right on the beach, within walking distance of many restaurants and shops. The bungalow was perfect for the three of us. They had new mattresses, fans in each room and views were amazing. You are so close to the beach that you can hear the sounds of the ocean all day and night. I loved that it was only 5 bungalow's - as it allowed us to really get to know others staying on the property. I felt like family. Everyone was so kind, genuine, sincere and friendly. I cannot thank the entire staff and family enough, my trip was perfect and exactly what I needed to relax.
