Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

BrazilStaff is nice but a bit amateur. They have some weird rules like you can pay cash but they don’t have change. You can pay card, but not in the beginning or end of the month. Also, I don’t recommend the big 12-people room - they have rooms inside the room so it ends up being noisy and busy all the time with people passing by.
Mattress are comfortable, beds are private with curtains, rooms are well organized and the reception is 24 hours.

CanadaNot enough seating for non-smokers. One towel for five nights isn’t enough, one change would have been good. Shower pressure was feeble to non-existent in one shower. Not much info provided to the guests.
It was well situated close to all the activities.

United KingdomGreat stay! The location was very good, 15 minute walk from the centre and so close to the markets which have great food. Felt very safe walking around even at night. Our room had a double bed, ensuite and a desk - very great value for money. The wifi was not good in our room but they have a coworking space which we used for work and that had great wifi!

CanadaVery Bare-to-bones property. The sleeping cubes seem newly constructed bas you could smell the fresh timber. Stacked rrally in a BIG group. I was lucky mine was in a separate space. Very BASIC kitchen. You can find better options for the price in the city, many with Breakfast included.
Great Location, walking distance to the bus terminal and most of Old Towne - Centro

United KingdomCouldn't use the kitchen before 10.30 so didn't end up using it. I tripped on a metal door slider on the floor of the of the dorm and cut open my foot in two places. This should be removed as it's clearly going to happen again and the door was never shut during my stay anyway. The lady on reception helped me well, but this must be removed to avoid further injury to guests
Clean and well equipped, with good hot water and comfy beds.

United StatesThe rooftop hangout space was also a smoking area, which makes it less comfortable for me. Kitchen very small. Breakfast is only included if you book directly with the hostel. You couldn't use the kitchen until 1030am, because they were preparing breakfast. But there wasn't an option to pay for breakfast if you used booking.com. So basically, I had no option for breakfast except to go to a restaurant or cafe. You had to cross through the 14 bed dorm to access that bathrooms and showers. I felt bad for the people sleeping there with constant disruption. There was no space to put your towel or clothes while showering. Women's dorm was hot, with only an interior window which opened to the common space, so it wasn't ideal to open. There was a fan in the room which helped some.
Good location, decently clean compared to other hostels I've stayed in.

IrelandOur private bathroom didn't have water for the majority of our stay and we had to use the shared bathroom. The room was not cleaned during our five day stay and we had to ask to replenish toilet rolls and towels. There is also a kitchen located near ht terrace which we used, only to be told it belongs to a different hostel, so better to have signs up to avoid any confusion in future.
The location was perfect and it was great value for money. The staff were very friendly and kept watch of who comes and goes which makes it feel safe. The outdoor terrace was so nice to relax

New ZealandWe stayed for 8 days; there was no hot water for 7 of those days, and no water at all for 1 day. The dorms were incredibly loud, and three other dorms had to pass through ours to get to their rooms. Nobody seemed to respect the fact that they may be disturbing other people. There was frequently no toilet paper, occasionally no hand soap, and never any paper towels or air dryer to dry hands on. The lockers are too small for most peoples packs, so there were dozens of backpacks strewn all over the room. There's no shelves in the shower, and they open directly into the communal bathroom, so clothes frequently got wet in the shower. Towels not supplied, also top sheet was not supplied, so we were absolutely freezing on our first night. They offered us a 100 peso blanket, but we eventually got a second sheet which was enough. I probably wouldn't stay again as there are much nicer places in Oaxaca for similar prices, as long as you don't come during Day of the Dead.
The asterisk on this review is that we stayed before, during, and after Day of the Dead. The staff were very friendly; it felt like being welcomed into a families home. The sleeping pods were really nifty and the privacy was great, handy lights and in-pod power sockets. The wifi was above average; it never cut out like other places, but it did slow down a lot during the evenings. As others have pointed out, the area is not the nicest in Oaxaca, but it's largely fine and there are some really delicious food spots a few metres away.

ItalyWhen we arrived, the room was very dirty, including the private bathroom. The bed linens were still dirty from the previuos host, they were changed after our request. No warm water available due to malfunction. We were expecting a refund for having slept in a dirty room in the first night, instead we never heard from the hostel managment, and payied the full amount anyway.
Location was very good.

AustriaWell, they forgot to clean the bath and the pillows and towels looked quite dirty (even though they might have been washed, but I guess not good enough). However, they cleaned it immediately and changed our pillow cases. Unfortunately you can only get into the. kitchen after 10:30 and their breakfast service starts at 9:00. We had to leave at 8:00 and so could not prepare or have our breakfast there :( This also means you cannot leave anything in the fridge overnight if you checkout early, because then it is locked in.
It is a sweet and nice hostel, and for the location which is super close to the historic center and the mercados it is suprisingly quiet.

GermanyThe hostel room was basically the garage of a simple house packing 14 beds. Got charged an extra fee for paying with a credit card. The location although relatively central is not a nice area and Very loud. Not possible to lock or close the room, so basically all hostel guests can walk around the whole house and you get extra charged for renting a lock and even a towel. Do not recommend this place

South AfricaIn the drom rooms, one only gets a sheet, no blankets. I was so cold the first night and asked for another sheet after much debating. Finally was given a second sheet. The Dorm room was right behind the reception area, so could hear the door bell ringing, people talking, going up the stairs etc. No sound proofing at all. No place to hang ones jackets or clothes , difficult to change after a shower.
The Staff are all super friendly and helpful. The mattress was very comfortable. Nice that they have drinking water available to top-up one's water bottle.
