Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThe rooms located above the swimming pool were double rooms but I believe they are too small to be comfortable for 2 people. Bed on the mezzanine wasn't too big and the access can be tricky if your mobility is not good. They were ok for a person for a couple of nights but don't expect next level comfort. They also have a couple of standard rooms. There is music going on around the swimming pool all day long until 23. This can bother some people if you want to relax in the evening or go to bed early.
Nice particular hotel in the center of Bacalar. Good location close to restaurants. The swimming pool set up is very good. They have invested a lot in making sure that the pool was next level. Pool bar and restaurant are also great.

United KingdomOur air con unit was dripping a lot of water into the room and onto an open suitcase on our last day/night. We think it was because we left the bathroom window open by accident and with the weather being so hot and humid the air con unit couldn't handle it. Reception gave us a small bucket to catch the water and it seemed to stop not long after that so all good! Just remember to keep your window shut if you stay 👍🏻
The guys on reception were super friendly and helpful from the second we arrived and also in communicating with us before that. The room was well thought out although probably not enough space for anyone staying longer than a few nights. The pool and bar area are awesome, the perfect place to relax for a few hours after a long day and the cocktails are amazing - shout out to David for the best frozen margaritas ever! Breakfast in Waah is very good, a mix of typical breakfast/brunch options and traditional mexican/Yucataean dishes. Location is perfect just a few mins walk from the main square and only 100m or so from the nearest public access to the lake. We borrowed some beach towels for an early morning swim which was very handy as we forgot to pack ours. Free parking on the front is a bonus too. Overall it is difficult to find any fault!

SwitzerlandThe room was a little bit to dark and humid. The service could be improved, on our arrival we had to wait almost one hour to get our coffees. At breakfast you are only allowed to one americano coffee, everything else will be charged on your room.

AustraliaThis hotel was very close to the centre of town without being too close. It was great, the pool areas were fantastic, and the provision of lounges, hammocks and areas to relax was appreciated. The room was a surprise, the photos don't really indicate how small the room is, and the steps up to the bed are a bit steep, but the bed was very comfortable!. The breakfast was amazing! We had a great, relaxing time here.

United KingdomWe checked in late to be fair but the girl showed us up to our room saying that she would WhatsApp me the code for our door. She then went home forgetting to do so! I went downstairs to reception which is not attended at night & found our room code (along with all the other room codes) on a post it pad stuck to the desk! So at least we could go out & have some much needed food after a 4 hour drive safe in the knowledge that our cases were safe in our room! When we spoke to the girl about this in the morning, she just shrugged her shoulders saying that the hotel operates on a trust policy. Not very reassuring when the front door to the hotel isn't even locked at night! Our room was so much smaller than we imagined & the hit and miss steep stairs to the tiny mezanine were a challenge as I had a bad ankle! My advice is to make sure that you book a bigger room.
The breakfasts were amazing apart from the cold coffee! Nice quiet location.

The hotel restaurant is excellent! Service and food are delicious. The amenities and location are great, the hotel has their own chicken and lots of plants for fresh produce. Most of the staff across restaurant and hotel were amazing. The 3 meter jump into the pool is a unique and fun add-on!

United KingdomThe set up of the bed being in the mezzanine is quite inconvenient and meant that every morning it was really hot up there making it quite uncomfortable. There was AC but I don’t like that being on over night, but I appreciate this is a personal preference.
The pool and location are amazing. The bar, restaurant and hammocks make this accommodation exceptional in many ways.

GermanyThe rooms are very dark and tiny. It was hard to set the right temperature even with the AC. At night you could hear loud music from the pool area and in the early morning construction workers disrupted our sleep.

SpainThe room is quite small as it is with two stories. It was unique. There was no usb charging point, if they had it would have been nice. The room was quite dark but the upstair where the bed is was bright.
I liked the superb breakfast the most! The menu is amazing since it is from a restaurant connected to the hotel. The pool looked nice, although I did not use and the hammock in front of the room was nice. Liked that there is no key needed as it was with the code to enter the room. There are lots of electrical outlets.

AustriaThe room smelt a bit damp and there were a lot of crushed bugs on the walls. On our first day there was construction work going on right where we were having breakfast and directly above our rooms – it sounded like someone was jackhammering straight into my head. When we asked the staff about it, they seemed surprised and apparently used to the noise. Fortunately, the noise did not continue into the second day, as it would have completely ruined our stay.
The hotel complex is lovely, with the pool area at its heart and lush trees around it. The rooms were stylish, if a little uncomfortable to use (very small, difficult to use the ladder to get to the bed), but ok for 3 nights. One of the highlights was the breakfast in the restaurant next door – two delicious meals and a drink per person were included in the room rate. We booked a stand up paddle tour through the hotel and it was one of the highlights of our whole trip.

United KingdomWhere the communal pool area exceeded itself, we felt like the bedrooms lacked. The bed was a great size but our room was very which gave a very different vibe to the rest of the hotel. Although you are not spending your holiday in your hotel room you at least want to enjoy your time within it! We also had no door to the bathroom just a curtain. It wasn't a massive deal but worth mentioning that the WiFi does not reach the rooms. There is a wardrobe hanging space but it would have been great to have a drawer space to unpack some clothes into. Overall I would say it gave more luxury hostel vibe.
Makaaba is in a great location on the road just behind the lake and also just a few minutes walk to the town centre. Inside the hotel itself it has a beautiful pool/ bar/ lounge area. It's very chilled vibes which is nice. We also had breakfast included in the restaurant which was delicious and lots of options. The key code locking system on the hotel room doors was actually super helpful so you don't have to worry about keys and whether you have forgotten them or not!

Loved the facilities, beautifully presented. Breakfast was incredible from the restaurant. The Japanese style of the room is unique and quirky. Little hammocks outside the room meant we could lie and watch the stars. And the location is perfectly situated to explore the main parts of Bacalar!
