Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

We had a great stay at this boutique hotel with 11 rooms. What we liked: 1) Staff was outstanding: friendly and with great advice about the region. We had booked two rooms for our family and one of our rooms was upgraded to a full ocean front view. This was so amazing and appreciated. Thank you Arturo! 2) location: this hotel is North of Tulum center (a 10 minute drive up the highway towards Cancun). You will drive down a small dirt road off the highway and need to pass a gated checkpoint. Past the checkpoint, there are residences, villas, and a 2 small hotels as far as we could tell. It is very quiet compared to the Tulum Beach or Tulum Center. If you are looking for EDM beach parties, this is not the place. 3) setting: this hotel is right on the beach with a constant breeze so you are not uncomfortable. Beautiful views, beautiful big night skies, turquoise waters, quiet, kayak and paddle boards to get out to the reef. I recommend bringing water shoes as the shore is a bit rocky. The water was very warm when we were there in late March/early April (~27C/81F). There were zero mosquitos or flying insects when we were there. We snorkeled every day in front of the hotel. It was a lot of fun and we saw a lot of different kind of bright colored fishes and even got to swim with a stingray, which was such a cool experience. 4) food: we ate at the restaurant for breakfast twice and 3 times for dinner. They have a small menu and while the food is quite good, the sauces are a bit redundant between dishes so after eating there for dinner 3 nights in a row, we wanted another option on day 4.

This was by far the best hotel of our whole trip. The atmosphere is amazing, the view is beautiful, the people are incredibly nice and helpful without being too formal. They treated our baby as if it was their own child. It was simply amazing.

BelgiumI was missing some vibes. I was hoping to eat a more refined 'a la carte' food at a reasonable price.
Casa Altamar is located at a secluded beach near Tulum. Very friendly staff. Beautiful room with spectacular views.

United StatesThere was a party in the hotel next door. The first night was short. But they stopped the sound around midnight so that was acceptable !
<The hotel is fantastically located on the front row of the beach. Lovely place to be to rest and relax.

United StatesThis property is a few miles outside of Tulum away from the hustle and bustle and major touristy areas. It’s peaceful with a beautiful sandy beach that’s never crowded. Lounge chairs and umbrellas are provided by the hotel at no extra charge and the beach is meticulously raked every morning. There are corals and some rocks at the water’s edge but the dock gives you easy access to the turquoise waters for swimming and snorkeling. Paddle boards and kayaks are also available for free. The staff are exceptional. You arrive as strangers and part as friends. The restaurant serves delicious meals and the service is attentive and personable. There’s also a security post down the street so we always felt safe. A car is recommended. Casa Altamar is a very special special little hotel with a big heart.

United StatesFood prices were similar to our NYC standards but the quality is excellent.
Loved every part of our trip from our stay, to the friendly staff, to the food, to culture. The hotel was located in a quiet secluded bay. The ocean temperature felt like a warm bath. A must stay!

United StatesThere was next to no hot water in the shower even if we ran it for a long time to warm up
The staff were incredible and we were so well looked after. We wanted a few days to just relax and not have to leave, and we didn’t have to! A cenote even just a short walk down the road. The bed was comfortable, the room very spacious and all of the common areas outside & inside were great. We didn’t want to leave and we would 100% go back. The noise in other comments we didn’t notice at all and were quite sensitive to noise :) the restaurant/bar closed at 9:30pm.

United StatesEverything was great. It would be nice if the water was accessible from the shore instead of the pier but that was a minor inconvenience
Casa Altamar is an excellent place to stay and the staff is amazing. The spot is beautiful and peaceful. The rooms are lovely and the food is amazing. It is a great value and the staff make it super special. They treat you like a guest in their home. From the welcome cocktail to the helpful suggestions and special attention they make everything like a dream. We went and visited the more touristy and busier part of Tulum and that made us even happier that we chose Casa Altamar for our stay. I'd highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a peaceful stay in a beautiful location with friendly helpful hosts.

United StatesI noticed so much trash on the road between the highway and the property. It’s not the property’s fault but I wish it was cleaned. Room #8 has partial ocean view, not full view. It was misleading during the booking (but we were ok with this). No fridge, coffee/tea station, phone in the room; food in Tulúm is expensive (NYC price). It would have been perfect if I could put some fruits and leftovers in a fridge. The hotel restaurant opened at 9:30am during my stay so a coffee station would have been great for someone like me who wakes up with the sunrise. I wish the restaurant provided smaller breakfast menu as well.
Staff and clean room. Housekeeping crew was excellent.

United StatesThere is absolutely nothing I did not like.
It is perfect. All of it. And every review here that speaks to what a paradise this is is accurate. But of course, I cannot leave a review without mentioning the staff. I’ve never experienced such genuine hospitality and kindness at a hotel. Imagine yourself walking into their lovely dining space and being greeted by the warmest, friendliest smiles. Ones of real joy every time. It’s like that. Alexis, Armin, Arturo, Gloria, Javier, and everyone else - all gems in their own way. I am grateful to them for making this stay like nothing I could have expected.

The staff were amazing! It’s a lovely small boutique hotel so you really feel the personal touch in their service. The food was absolutely delicious with so much attention to detail and excellent presentation. The location is great, close enough to the town and all the activities but perfect if you’re looking for a more relaxed quiet atmosphere. Also the vibes and aesthetic of the hotel are amazing, and everything was very clean and well maintained.

GermanyThere were electricity outages a few times. Be aware It's hard to come around when you don't have a car. The area is rural and Taxis are expensive. I cannot recommend the Restaurant. The prices are way too high (like everywhere in the area) and the quality was not good either.
This place is absolutely paradise if you are looking for a relaxed stay away from the touristic Center of Tulum/Playa Del Carmen. Very few people around. Private Clean Beach with beautiful ocean and reef. You can use SUPs and Kajaks for free! Our room was very clean and comfortable. Good working A/C. I want to emphasize the really welcoming and helpful staff; We felt like staying with friends. Also, they gave us an outstanding hearty welcome when we arrived. One of our best stays during our vacation in Yucatan! Also Check Out the Cenote which is only a 10 min's walk!

Absolutely everything. It is HEAVEN ON EARTH. Located outside of the noisy area (taxi is about 500-600 MXN to/from Tulum Centro), the staff is incredibly welcoming and caring. The view... the most beautiful sunrises I've ever seen, the pool and the beach are so beautiful and natural (so peaceful!). It is the best place for a relaxing, intimate-meditative vacation. I would definitely be back!
