Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesI read free toiletries, but conditioner is not included. So bring your own. Not a big deal, but just if you have curly hair like mine, I would suggest to bring your own. They provide natural bug repellent, natural sunblock, body lotion, hand soap, and after sun care Aloe, and honey shampoo( which smelled amazing, just wished they had the conditioner to pair it). I did ask the staff and they said they only provide the shampoo. I was surprised by their response only because most places provide both. But oh well, just mentioning it for anyone packing their toiletries.
Relaxing and eco friendly. Quiet and peaceful, lagoon view and access was amazing. The water looks so beautiful, and swimming in it was so refreshing.

SwitzerlandThe entrance to the lagoon is complicated.
When you arrive you get the feeling of arriving in a corner in the middle of the jungle. You are greeted by Fatima and her great Dane who is a real character. The rooms are very comfortable and although there is no air conditioning the The fan system works very well.

United StatesWe booked what we thought was the front cabin on the lake but it was actually a row back. Needs safer access to water - stairs are quite slippery.
The mystical and magical lagoon is the ideal setting to perch oneself in an elevated palapa. Surrounded by the singing of the birds and rustling of leaves, the gentle waters beckon you in. Very private and conducive to couples. Love the outdoor bathroom.

United StatesFew things but not that important. I didn’t like to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night because I didn’t know what will except me. I mean it is in the middle of the jungle/ woods. I wish there was an automated sensor for lights in that area.
It was designed well. Being by the water and having the view from the room. Healthy breakfast.

It is a wonderful place to stay. Away from noise and inmerse in nature... absolutely extraordinary! Friendly and qualified staff, they make you feel welcome and help you with any questions you may have. The breakfast is exquisite. All in all, an unforgettable experience! I would definitely come back.

United KingdomBeing from the U.K. and visiting in July I found it was quite hot at night.
The fresh water lagoon is amazing with easy access from the apartments. Great eco-conscious facilities whilst maintaining the feeling of being surrounded by nature. There were lots of birds and animals to see whilst there. Very helpful and friendly staff, especially the owner Bernie. Exceptional food available all day. It was nice to be able to use the kayaks on the lagoon whenever we wanted at no extra cost. A short journey to Bacalar where there are lots of places to eat and things to do. Wound definitely stay again.

United Statesall good!
Wonderful place! “wifiorlake?” That is the question. Wi-Fi is available in common space located at the entrance . This area features a library, board games and plenty of space to relax and catch up with world.. the kitchen ,with a menu offering several fresh and tasty choices is also in this area…..breakfast , lunch or dinner… all delicious! The space in between… Six wonderfully designed and constructed A frames, offering everything necessary for the best off grid experience I have ever found. Woke with sunrise and followed the path down the wooden stairs to the breathtaking Lake Bacalar. easily spent the early day here … comfy chairs , floating decks , in water swing and hammock….. and free use kayaks.A mix of sun and shade makes it all perfect . The town of Bacalar is 15 minutes down the road , several options to tour the lake …. sail , pontoon and motorboats. Definitely visit Azul Cenote a few miles further down road . Returned to jungle early evening to be greeted with a sky full for gazing and shimmering moon lit water with sounds of nature providing the soundtrack for an experience that will not soon be forgotten. Thank you Sam , Bernie and all the wonderful staff as well as the two wonderful dogs Clementina and Tabitha!

MexicoI could've done without the two huge dogs roaming around- they came into our room and ate my partner's snoring nose device, which was irreplaceable and led to some issues with sleeping soundly the next nights. Maybe consider a way to have the dogs on the property but train them well so they don't hover around plates of food when guests are trying to eat, or go in certain spaces where they aren't supposed to be.
We loved our stay at Azul- everything from the tact and friendliness of the staff and owners, to the delicious breakfast and the location and views were fantastic! We really appreciated the small extra touches that make a big difference, like the free hat for guests, the cozy library in the kitchen that felt like a piece of my own home, and having drinking water available in the room. I couldn't believe the kitchen staff remembered exactly which fruits I wanted on my oatmeal after having asked for it once. Truly impeccable service and attention to detail. Will come back a hundred times.

Mexicowe had the wrong expectations. we were looking for things like room service or maybe drinks by the lagoon. also, the garden below our room was the favorite spot for the dogs to go number two and I stepped on it once and when the breeze was heavy the smell was not too pleasant. other than that, great staff/view/eco design ps. I love dogs and their dogs are awesome ❤️
it’s eco friendly, sustainable cozy and tranquil.

United KingdomThe signage. There isn’t any. We got lost and ended up stuck in a muddy field in the dark. We had to be pushed out by some locals. We had a huge argument and arrived at this romantic location barely speaking to each other. All because there’s no signage at all. It nearly ruined our trip. Also there is a campsite nearby where there seemed to be some kind of church camping event all weekend - with loudhailers and PA systems. I think we were just unlucky with our timing (although lucky in that they helped push our car out of the mud when we were arriving).
Wonderful place to commune with nature, with great food (breakfast and dinner) at very reasonable prices. Make sure you have dinner at the hotel one night.

After coming from Tulum this was exactly what we needed! This stay is our number one stay during our Mexico trip! Bacalar is really nice, but staying here, in these cabins next to the lake is really breathtaking! You our one with nature. The owners of this place are super friendly, they make you feel very welcome, they give you good tips and provide you the best stay. Their chef's are amazing too, the food in this place made us smile! To top it all of, they have 2 amazing dogs! We loved Clemantina and Tabatha <3

United KingdomIt’s very remote which definitely had its upsides but without a car you really are stranded unless you pay about £10 for a cab to the centre. It’s worth it to be this in the wild but worth considering. Other small things - a slight room clean each day would have been great for the price, we missed desserts on the lunch/dinner menu and also would have loved an extra light by the bedside so we could read at night as it was too dark.
Probably the most beautiful place we’ve ever stayed. The owners have given shown incredible attention to detail throughout and really made the most of a stunning location whilst taking care of the surrounding nature. Couldn’t recommend enough. Breakfast was lovely and the staff all very helpful and kind, including the owners who helped book us a tour and tell us more about the property/area.

MexicoAbsolutely gorgeous and serene place. We loved every minute of our stay. It was even more magical than the photos. The owners and staff were gracious and welcoming and they have the cutest and friendliest dogs. The comfiest bed, the most gorgeous rooms. We barely left the property because it was so perfect. Waking up to the sounds of birds, venturing down to the lagoon and enjoying the water for hours, falling asleep in peaceful surroundings are memories we will not soon forget. I was sad to leave but so happy and thankful to have experienced this.

United StatesMost of the issues I encountered during my stay at this property stemmed from inadequate disclosure of important details in the basic property information section. These details were only mentioned in one of the final pictures posted. Notably, there was no Wi-Fi available in the rooms, and as indicated in the photo, there are two large dogs on the premises. Unfortunately, one of them attacked me while I was checking out, biting my luggage. It's worth mentioning that these are not puppies but rather sizable dogs. As someone who is afraid of dogs, the last thing I wanted was to hear reassurances about their temperament. Additionally, the property generates its own electricity. On the first day of my stay, I reported the lack of hot water in the shower, but no resolution was provided, resulting in three days of cold showers. Despite communicating in both English and Spanish, the staff was unable to offer solutions. To top it off, on our last day, there was no water at all. So I started my day collecting water from a bucket to dispense it in the toilet. Furthermore, I found the lack of privacy within the rooms of the first two cabins to be bothersome. Any curious guest passing by could easily peer into the room, as the only privacy measure provided was a sheer curtain that failed to cover the entire front door. Although the staff claimed that the layout of the cabins ensured privacy, this was not my experience. From the pathway leading to the cabin, I could see my partner lying in bed. While I appreciate the concept of being in touch with nature, I expected more for the price charged, particularly in terms of amenities such as a warm shower and adequate privacy. Throughout my stay, I found myself frustrated by the high cost and the numerous issues I encountered.
The fact that was close to the lake.

GermanyFor 12 hours straight and through the entire night we were without electricity. That meant no charging our phones, no light when going to the bathroom, and worst of all no ceiling fan. It was very humid and hot and it was very hard to breathe - we had a horrible night. Without Wifi it was also not possible for us to contact anyone since there was no staff at the location at night. We weren‘t offered any kind of compensation. This is inacceptable. On a side note: We were on our honeymoon and every other accomodation we visited had surprised us with a little something, be it just a few rose petals on the bed. This place hasn‘t.
Beautiful tree house with outdoor bathroom. Nice view of the lagoon and a bit off the beaten track, 15 minutes away from the town.

AustraliaOnly two staff on site for the whole property by themselves, often seemed like only one in the evening so for 8-10 guests it meant very long wait time for food like an hour to two hours. Very limited food menu and the rooms could be updated to have an option to not be open to environment as bugs were everywhere... with these thoughts we felt it was overpriced and like owners weren't really investing the high cost back into the property to elevate this stay.
Perfect location, right on the water. Free kayak hire Nice staff. And the dogs were lovely and no issues with them
