Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

BelgiumToo much black, which darkens the place and covers dampness in the rooms. the breakfast was too basic and really not worth while, until we asked for Mexican breakfast and then it was great!! Our room was on the ground floor and were woken up both mornings before 7am by staff making noise & shouting.
Spacious rooms, clean, comfortable beds. friendly staff, nice rooftop terrace, swimming pool. Great to be able to take a bike & discover some cenotes.

BrazilBut there’s some important things to mention: we’ve picked this hotel because they had free bikes for guests, when we were there all the bikes were in repair so we couldn’t use. When asked, the girl from front desk said we could rent $ in another place. So the money we originally saved picking this one, was for nothing. Another thing was about the water. 2 nights we didn’t have water in our bathroom at night, we had to brush our teeth with mineral water. Plus the water was kinda salty. Breakfast was also less than we expected, could have more food.
The hotel vibe is good, beautiful, night security staff was friendly and helpful with our bags.

BelgiumNow to the negative. - the “double” bed is EXTREMELY small. We were two girls sleeping in the bed and had no space. - on our first two nights there were constructions going on at 7am in the morning… - you can hear EVERYTHING from the neighbors room. thankfully our neighbors were not noisy after 9pm. - When you wake up and have breakfast at 8am, the staff puts super loud music on. This is not the type of relaxation people look for in Tulum. The music is super loud and too stressful for breakfast. - The room we got had absolutely no view. It was quite bad. There was a vis a vis with another building and the roof of a house. - This is a detail but the shower is a rain shower built at 2.5m. Meaning that if you want to shower without wetting your hair it’ll be impossible. - The breakfast is VERY SMALL. I’m not a huge eater but even so, you have to CHOOSE between eggs and fruits… I have been to actual hostels with much better breakfast. For 90€ a night I expected better! And the worst was that on Tuesday there was basically no breakfast. We came down at 8.30am and we’re told that today they only had fruits. No bread, no eggs, nothing. This is really outrageous. - Lastly, on booking.com the check out was at 15.00 which is why we chose that hotel. However, on the day of our departure we were told that it was at 12.00… this is not okay. They should not advertise later check out times if this is not the reality of it.
Overall the hotel is not bad but not good either. I’ll start with the positive. The receptionist called Jesus is extremely kind and helpful. He went out of his way to accommodate us. He printed forms for us, helped us rent bikes, booked taxi etc. He truly was fantastic! the night guard was also very kind and funny. Similarly, the hotel itself is quite cute and small and it is well located (in a calm street close to Main Street). Also, the room was spacious.

CanadaAroma Hotel was a rather pleasant experience, the staff were nice, the included breakfast was decent, room was roomy, and the beds were comfortable. Black walls were weird, but we could look past that. Why the significant knock in star rating? In their personalized introduction letter (a very nice touch), they insisted if we have any troubles at all to email them first. I went on their aromatulum.com website and showed the staff that the bike rentals were included for guests, they insisted that their policy was inconsistent with their policies were different than their website. I emailed the email provided on our intro letter and quoted their website, their response is that they would not honor what is stated on their website and suggested that I perhaps was looking at the wrong website (I was not). They ignored all of my follow up emails. For this reason, I am giving a vengeful 3 star rating.

United StatesThere was a mosquito in our room so I got bitten. I had to wear OFF every night. There’s a small pool outside of the room which was a breeding ground for mosquitoes since it wasn’t chlorinated or drained. The floor is cement so it was dirty. The bed was really hard and the pillows flat and lumpy. The plumbing is exposed so our hands smelled rusty every time we turned the faucet on and off. I also regret not booking a hotel near the beach since it’s a $25 USD taxi ride. A bit too far to bike or walk there.
The free breakfast was good. The mini bar was convenient. It was close to the Ado bus stop, a bank, a convenience store and a main road. I liked the modern furnishings. It was very affordable.

United KingdomThe only negative we have is that we were not told about the gate locking at 10pm & the key for it, so when we arrived back late one night from a restaurant we had to whatsapp them for the code as we didn't know there was a key to take. I think they just forgot to mention this. Be warned that taxis here are crazy expensive so if you plan on going to the beach hotels/restaurants at night then you will be paying about £25-40 (it varies drastically!) each way! so if you're looking to be near the beach then this hotel is not for you. It is in downtown Tulum which is cool & has great cafes/bars/restaurants & the bike hire makes visiting the beach during the day easy & cheap however I would not recommend using them at night as they have no lights.
We stayed at Aroma for 3 days as part of our honeymoon. It is a lovely, quiet, cheap hotel & the staff are super friendly although they don't speak much English so communication is difficult unless you speak Spanish. The food is great, including the free breakfast & the drinks are good & cheap! The rooms ARE dark, but it is part of the vibe! It is an excellent hotel for the price. You can hire bikes to go to the beach - takes about 15-20 minutes. The bikes aren't the best quality but they work just fine. The taxi/transfer company that the hotel arranged for us from the airport was super great & communication was fab - we are using them again to travel to our next destination. All in all would recommend for a chill downtown Tulum cheap & instagram-able experience!
