Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

RussiaWell, of course it’s not a 5* as they claim here on Booking, the guys don’t even have slippers for the guests and the breakfast is a la carte and very modest. But these are minor things
Seems brand new, very fresh in a convenient location on the way to the beach zone.

Puerto RicoAC did not cool enough. We had it in the lowest temperature and highest fan and it still was a little hot. Thought it was me but all my family told me the same. The thing is that most of my family don’t like to be to cool and they were sweating.

AustraliaOnly downside was the area - I didn’t do enough research and didn’t feel particularly comfortable wandering around. I’d suggest being a lot closer to the ocean (it’s 2km away) or somewhere closer to the main streets to avoid having to walk a long way for entertainment etc. It was an extremely quiet area too so great if you’re just looking to relax with limited options. Property was fine. Clean, comfortable, allowed us to check in early and they also have a shuttle service which was far cheaper than any other we have used and was safe and reliable.
Neat and tidy. Pool was very clean and pool area nice. No complaints.

MexicoI made a reservation for $290.00 USD and they charged me almost $400.00 USD. In addition their exchange rate is well above the published exchange rate from BANXICO, which represents a very significant issue. Although I like the Aloft hotels and they did offer a “compensation”, this is the first time I am in fact disappointed and not satisfied with them.
As usual, the hotel itself is excellent.

CanadaCould use more hanger/closet space for clothing in the room. There was noisy construction next door, but this is temporary, so I would not say it is a problem. There is construction in many places in Tulum.
Design and decor was beautiful and inviting. The hotel rooms and facilities were clean and well-kept. Our room had a king bed, beautiful open layout, and unique use of space.

MexicoOff street parking wasn't available, unless you paid extra, at a daily rate. Should be included in the hotel price. Misleading as parking was a specific request and it didn't say cost extra until we got there. If it was stated somewhere it must have been in the really fine print.......
Everything was great, breakfast was wonderful, beds fantastic and pillows really nice!

AustriaWe booked the hotel mainly because of the benefits listed on their website, such as a food & beverage credit or daily transportation to a partner beach club. On our booking confirmation, it was clearly stated that all these services were included in the destination. We also checked the official website and the Booking.com profile and the same was stated there. One day before our arrival at the hotel, we were notified via Booking.com that we would have to pay a "destination fee" to receive these benefits, which we did not anticipate at all. In my opinion, this is a clear (and intentional?) miscommunication and should definitely be stated explicitly on the website or Booking.com in advance. When I browsed the confirmation for our stay on Booking.com again today, I noticed that now the confirmation suddenly includes a statement where the fee is mentioned, which I found really odd... If you have breakfast included, you will soon notice that what you get is pretty inconsistent and varies from day to day. One day, we received a main dish of our choice (sweet or salty), a fruit platter and some toast with jam and butter. The other day we just got the main dish but no toast or fruit platter.
I would say that despite the additional cost, paying the destination fee to claim all the benefits was absolutely necessary. Prices in Tulum are just insane, which is where the transportation to the beach club and the food & beverage credit came in handy. We used the credit for food and drinks on a daily basis at the hotel restaurant (Ático). In my opinion, the food is mediocre but if you're only staying for a few days I would say it's ok. The hotel staff is absolutely nice and accommodating, which made our stay really enjoyable!! Especially the reception staff and person in charge of the tours and transportation really helped us out a lot. I never had the feeling that we were pressured for tips, which was a huge issue in other hotels / restaurants we visited and made us really uncomfortable at times. Our waiters at Ático always treated us in a friendly manner. Another big plus of Aloft Tulum are the amazing rooms and the pool on the rooftop. In terms of atmosphere, the hotel is absolutely top! On another note, if you need transportation to the airport, I would recommend to ask the hotel instead of booking it with external providers, as you can actually be sure that your ride to the airport will show up.

United StatesI booked the 2 night reservation on booking.com. Price was showing in USD since I had not changed the currency setting. When we checked in, clerk asked me if I’d like the hotel to charge the room in dollars or pesos. I said pesos as normally you want to have charges in the local currency. That evening I check what he charged vs what booking.com said my price would be and it was about $52 more on top of their mandatory $20/night additional fee. The next morning, when I questioned this, I was told it was because the price goes across to them in dollars so since I asked to be charged in pesos, they converted it at their rate which of course was then converted back on my cc to USD. $57more on what should have been $317+$40 for two nights. Unfortunately this could have been avoided had I just paid on booking.com instead of at the hotel so please note, don’t pay at the hotel. To top it off, our first morning, my husband went to see if there was coffee. The lady at the restaurant was quite spiffed at him for being there 10 minutes before they opened. He asked if there was coffee anywhere that he could get. She said he could wait until they opened. She charged him $80 pesos (about $5USD) for 2 black coffees to go. She called the front desk and says they told her breakfast was not included in our stay. I am the one who booked the reservation, so my husband did not know breakfast WAS included. The next morning when I brought this up to the same woman, she says that our reservation does show breakfast is included but the reason he was charged was because he took the coffee to go. She lied and thought nothing of it. The rip off in this place is real so definitely be on the lookout. I’ve been a Marriot member for as long as I can remember and can’t believe this happened at one of their properties.
Beds were comfortable as is typical of Marriot hotels. Room was a good size. Location was great as you can walk to many restaurants.

United KingdomThe music POUNDED our room from the rooftop bar. Seeing as the only people staying were young families and other couples chilling out it seemed so, so unnecessary. I don't think there was anyone there. Tulum is the place to kick back and relax. Not everything needs to be club vibes and I had to call reception at 10pm and ask them to turn it down because the walls were vibrating. Staff were great and seemed to pass on the message, but this happened each night. Coffee was DIRE.
Aloft has got the rooftop pool vibe cornered. Chose this hotel because I'm training for a race and the gym was REALLY well equipped. Great cardio/good quality machines and a light airy space. Also a downstairs pool big enough for laps. Cute outside garden and lovely view across the jungle to the strip of sea in the distance.

HungaryThe pools, garden and rooftop, are rather small, not really inviting. I did not like that I could not open the window of my room and it had no balcony neither, while you just cant switch off the AC. So it was always way too cold in my room. Really annoying and disturbing and uncomfortable, feeling freezed in a tropical environment and I could not do anything about it. Coupled with catching a cold I did not feel well in this room :/ I do not apreciate the standard sterile ambiance of this hotel, it really could be anywhere on Earth, totally lacking any relation with its surrounding.
Good (for me) location between city center and beach (equally close or equally far). Spacious, generous room with all the facilities. Nice gym. Good breakfast. All in all a nice package.

United KingdomBoth the rooftop and bar were expensive. The rooftop food wasn’t great for vegetarians and I think the value for the food was not good.
The rooftop is very nice and the general pool area is lovely. The housekeeping was excellent as the rooms were always very clean! I liked the sociable space in the bar downstairs too. The gym was very nice too. We did the tour to the Laguna which was included in the destination charge. This tour was very good!

United StatesAdult only roof top pool and bar let children in without pushing back on the guests. This happened at night and day, on three different occasions we were up there. Had to ask for the bottled water from front desk on 5 of the 7 days we were there, this was part of the destination fee.
Very clean, staff was wonderful, mini fridge was great. The gym was clean.

United KingdomThere are not lots of places to sit by the rooftop pool, you may have to get there early. In the evenings the rooftop bar is quite loud, particularly if you’re going to bed before midnight and are staying on the 4th floor.
The rooms were a good size with everything you could need. The staff were very helpful. Both pools are lovely and relaxing.

United StatesBooking reservation stated the hotel provides bicycles and they do not. Also, they were not accommodating to offering late check out. Finally, the Bookings reservation implied that the price paid included services we later learned required an additional hotel Destination Fee. This was never clearly communicated by Bookings.

United StatesI saw about 50 bikes in the parking deck, we could not use one of them because they said they were not in service. Parking is free everywhere in Tulum if you’re a guest of that facility, I don’t think this hotel should be charging it’s guest for parking.
The property is in a great location, the rooms are big and the roof top pool was awesome.

ItalyThe destination fee. I feel this feature needs to be optional or taken out all together. First, I never got the welcoming cocktails and the hotel informed us that they didn’t have spare bikes which were included in that destination fee. Overall, I paid $100 USD which isn’t tremendous for 6 days but it wasn’t utilized at all
The location as well as the room was furnished in a good manner plus the Marshall speaker was a great addition.
