Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PolandNice place to stay for 2-3 nights. There is a swimming pool, common areas to relax, an accessible kitchen and clean shared bathrooms. You need to be aware that the place is about 25 minutes by car from Bacalar. There are few places to eat in Buenavista, so we recommend doing major food shopping before arrival to have something to eat for breakfast/dinner. The facility has beautiful and very intimate access to the lagoon. Also remember to take mosquito spray, because they bite a lot when you are not inside the house.

United KingdomNothing in particular. We stayed during off season and it probably wasn’t the same experience as staying in high season. Bacalar/Buenavista in general has the most evil mosquitos so bring your repellant!
Beautiful property & great to have private lagoon access. The staff were super nice.

Felt in love with this accomodation at the first sight. Cozy cabins to sleep in, relaxing area to enjoy in the free time and chill; free bicicles to use whenever you want to, their private lagoon is amazing. Also the area is really calm and not so touristic.

Great place that feels like an oasis among the 'real' Mexican town... it was great, safe, friendly, beautiful, fun - had meditation classes - great restaurant... but Sam and his staff were fantastic! Their private beach property was absolutely amazing... they even prepared a BBQ there for anyone interested. Sam and Alonso were Awesome... I was even invited to a party with them - which I accepted ;)

United KingdomA great addition would be data points to compliment the sockets. Also liquid soap/shampoo in the showers would be good.
Being tucked away 25 mins drive north of Bacalar this property was wonderfully tranquil and relaxing with its own access to the lagoon albeit 25 mins walk or 10 mins cycle away from the living compound f Drown dusty roads. The place was taken over recently by a new team of lads keen to make it a success and they have recruited a good team around them. Free water, tea and coffee. The place is quiet, the pool refreshing, the place clean, the food good. The paddleboard and kayak trips are to be recommended. I saw a previous comment about not being suitable for single females. No reason was given but could not be further from the truth. Currently 40 pesos by collectivo or 350 pesos by taxi from Bacalar.

We ended up staying here for 6 nights because it was so incredible! The accommodation is great, food options they offer are delicious - especially the avena bowl at breakfast! The lagoon area they have is unbelievably tranquil and completely isolated from anywhere else. It is also at a point where no boats pass making it very peaceful. Buenavista itself is very quiet with just a couple of other places to eat and a few little shops. It's perfect if you just want to relax by the lagoon and enjoy the nature. Also a big shout out to all the staff who genuinely really care about ensuring you have the best stay and go above and beyond every day!

United KingdomNot a lot of space to move around in the huts, shelves or hooks would be a nice improvement. The shell curtains of the communal bathroom are nice but very loud , especially at night. Food in restaurant was nice but a bit pricey. Kayyak rental a bit pricey. Overall not much to complain about.
Very nice and quiet location, comfy bed, the host was very nice and helpful. Free use of bikes.

United KingdomHad the best stay at Aldea Elvira thanks to the super hospitable team. We extended our stay 2 times as we loved how peaceful and magical this place was. As 2 female travellers we felt super safe. The private lagoon spot is 10-15mins away by bike and it’s super special and tranquil. Special thanks to Lupita whose omlettes (and the rest or the food) was exceptional and Joel who did everything with a smile!

CanadaThe entire village is under construction so there is some noise. Some of the roads are pretty rough. It's a trek down a bumpy road to get to their lagoon access but it is worth it!
This is a gem. Such a zen, relaxing vibe. The care and detail extends to the lagoon docks, chairs, loungers, blankets.

CanadaSince the restaurant isn't always open, providing a fridge for guests or mini fridges in the cabins would be an amazing addition. We stayed at another glamping accommodation with a fridge, utensils, plates, and bowls and it was wonderful. We still ate out a lot so I think it'd be a good balance with the on site restaurant and not take away from the business.
Aldea Elvira's lagoon dock setup is true paradise. We loved biking through the jungle to get there with the bikes provided and spent as much time as possible there during our stay. The water is some of the best we've every swam in and we loved having it mostly to ourselves for a quiet reset. Something to note about the accommodation is that there is no fridge available for guest use. There is a great restaurant onsite but it's not always open so if you need food in between meals be sure to bring things that don't need to be refrigerated. We slept extremely well in our cabin. It stayed pretty cool at night without AC and the bed was really comfortable. We enjoyed talking to other guests from around the world in the common areas. The shared bathroom was clean. Buenavista is a tiny town with friendly residents that we really loved. There isn't much in terms of restaurants and shops but we appreciated the local bodega for cold cervezas. We had a rental car and visited Bacalar once which was nice but we really enjoyed staying in the quiet paradise of Buenavista for most of our time there. This isn't for someone looking for nightlife, a perfectly maintained tourist zone, or a resort setting. We enjoy camping so the elevated rustic style of glamping was a great fit for us.

GermanyThe place is magical paradise in the middle of the jungle, which makes it very unique and definitely the highlight of our stay in Mexico! We loved the sunrises at the lagoon and the hangouts at the dock. The lush greenery makes it chilly during the hot days. We loved that they also had vegan food options. The cabins are simple yet beautiful, with a roof window which lets you see the stars at night. 12/10!

Amazing place where to stay for relaxing moments. Close to Bacalar, especially if you’re with car. Staff is very kind and friendly, they have an private, beautiful access to laguna, with chairs and tables, everything around is green and tropical. Nice breakfast also in territory. Definitely worth it, couldn’t imagine better place for staying near by Bacalar. Also they are offering bicycles and kayaks. Pool and very stylish bathrooms.

NetherlandsThat we only planned to stay 2 nights 😭😭, as soon as we arrived we thought - we should have planned a whole week!
We loved everything about it! Seriously can’t recommend enough. The place is absolutely stunning, peaceful and relaxing, the huts are super cute and comfortable, everything was clean and very well kept. Also the food they serve was super tasty and with plenty of vegan/vegetarian options, and there is complementary water, tea and coffee. The Buenavista village is also very nice and quiet, it’s super easy to reach the lagoon by foot from aldea Elvira. The free bikes are also super handy to head out a bit further to the private lagoon spot, which is a must, beautiful and very comfortable place to swim and enjoy the amazing view. Our favourite part of our stay however was the staff, they are extremely responsive, helpful, welcoming and kind. You will be well taken care of!! We will definitely be back 😁😁

Spain- I would not recommend Buenavista for people without a car; while it's quieter compared to Bacalar, there is basically nowhere to eat and nothing to do in the evening, and getting to Bacalar is a bit of a churn (either a taxi for $350MXN or waiting for a colectivo on the main road). - During our stay, the staff was absent almost the whole time and were told by other guests that they were hanging out at the laguna instead. We basically had to self-check in and figure out how to get to the private jetty. I'm okay with self-service but maybe leave a note or message explaining things like transport, restaurants, bikes etc. :)
The place is absolutely beautiful, a quiet and peaceful oasis. We particularly loved the pool and cleanliness of the shared spaces. They also have a private jetty, just a 10 min bike ride from the hotel, where you're most likely going to be able to enjoy the laguna alone! Also thanks a lot to the helper who takes care of cleaning the place, he was the only staff member available and went over and above his responsibilities to show us the available rooms and explain us how to get to Bacalar.
