Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomFriendly and helpful staff, good breakfast (a little squirrel always appears to entertain you while you eat). The room is good. A mosquito net is provided but not needed as there were no mosquitoes. Close to the beach area and good restaurants. Aircon was nice, and there's a little fridge in the room. I was happy there.

NetherlandsThe walk to the beach is a little further (10 minutes) but we actually really didn’t mind
The host for breakfast and our stay was wonderful!! He was super friendly and the breakfast was everyday different and with a nice view. (Sorry we forgot your name but thank you again)! The room was good, we could choose between aircon and van.

GermanyRoad is a bit bumpy but manageble with carful Tuk tuk driving.
Woody Cabana is located a bit outside the center but the remote location is really relaxing and Uppuveli beach is only 10min by foot away. The room with private bathroom and mini fridge was very clean. The staff was really helpful and always present. They have a roof top terrace surrounded by plants which gives a nice atmosphere for tea breaks or a beer in the evening.

Italy- around 1 km from the beach and walking at night did not feel comfortable and safe - overpriced for its location (30$ per night) - strong sewer smell from the bathroom. - yellow stains in the towels and bed sheets - we only had 2 bath towels, no small towels - no soap, although there was a shampoo, body gel and lotion - no window with a glass. Only a Window that has door without a mosquito set. You have to close the window completely during a sleep bro to get insects. So when you wake up, the room is dark. - no hot water - very very basic cold breakfast (we had only 2 cold pancakes, pocket tea, and a few pieces of watermelon). In the pictures in it advertised as a full Sri Lankan breakfast with various food but we did not have anything like this. A normal breakfast needs at least one egg and drinking water. You have to pay for a bottle of water btw. - Tap water is used for tea during breakfast (I don’t think it is safe to drink even if boiled). - John (owner’a helper) is very nice but he did not give us privacy during breakfasts by staying nearby, sometimes staring, and asking too many questions. Sorry I just wanted to have time with my wife, and don’t want someone hovering around me haha - overall the hotel is good but needs improvements considering it is price. 30$ is a lot for a wooden box in the middle of a field
- Eco design (all wood) - Friendly staff and the owner - great recommendations from the owner - quiet - AC - nice terrace

GermanyEverything was perfect. Of course the bathroom has another standard then in western countries and one evening a very very small frog smiled at me sitting in the sink but our host explained to us that he doesn’t want to put chemicals in the sink to not destroy the eco system and this made us very happy - it was a really beautiful experience!
Our host was very friendly and helpful and gave us a lot tips for our stay in Trinco and our next stops in Sri Lanka. We enjoyed a lovely and delicious breakfast on top of the woody cabana with a very nice view. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable.

United StatesAn amazing guesthouse! My sister and I stayed here for 2 nights and we absolutely loved it here. The husband and wife that run the place are so kind and attentive. They really do make you feel at home. The facility itself is beautiful. There's an upper deck area where you can sit and enjoy your meals. It's shaded and gets a nice breeze as well. The upper deck also has quite a few outlets if you need to get work done on your laptop. The breakfasts are so good! You are given a feast and each breakfast was different so we enjoyed a variety of different sri Lankan meals. If you are staying in Trincomalee, I highly recommend this place!

United KingdomWoody cabana is such a cute place to stay, all the wooden features make it feel so authentic. The beds were comfortable and we had everything we needed. In my opinion the nearby restaurants and shops near Uppuveli beach were a lot better than Trincomalee centre so it was a perfect location and a short walk to these restaurants and a beautiful beach. The hosts are a very sweet couple who go above and beyond for you. Whenever we had a problem or a request they went above and beyond like we were part of their family. It was also quiet so slept well. There is a lovely terrace on the top floor to relax. Definitely recommend!

United KingdomWe enjoyed our time here. It is a Cosy cabana with comfy bed. You feel close to nature and there is a great view of sunrise and sunset ! Nice place to chill on the terrace with free tea and coffee !! The host was always so helpful and accommodating. For example One of the taps didn't work in our bathroom and they fixed it immediately !he also gave us a snack for our journey to our next destination. He was very helpful with lots of advice and information on directions of how to get to the cabana, information about the area, activities to do and places to see . The location is great, off the main road in a quiet area but still close to the main part of the town, and a short walk to the beach. Felt very safe there. You can rent a moped/scooter from there too which is very useful in Trincomalee. Thank you for having us !

GermanyThe only thing we missed was a mosquito net, but we didn't ask for one either. So maybe they can provide one if requested.
Great value for money. Shan and his wife are very nice and make every effort to ensure their guests have a pleasant stay. They organized a tour and a TukTuk ride for us for an absolutely fair price. Woody Cabana is set back from the main road which makes it very quiet. There is a roof terrace where you can enjoy the sunset. They even provide you crockery, cutlery and a kettle so that you can prepare small meals by yourself. The breakfast was delicious!

IsraelThe infrastructure in the room is not good. The shower is right on the toilet and everything gets wet when you shower. There is no hot water. There was a terrible smell of sewage and urine in the bathroom, especially during the shower. The interior of the room is made of plywood boards in a bad condition. The room itself is not very clean (to say the least) There is a very nice view upstairs, but the view from the balcony of the room is well hidden. When I opened the suitcase I found a cute cockroach there. At night, rats (or other animals) run around inside the roof. It was very unpleasant. The beach is about a 10 minute walk away and you have to take a shuttle to the city. In booking it days that there is a restaurant in the hotel, but there is not. You can order food, but no restaurant. Price is quite high related to the area. Very dissapointing
You cannot open a window in the room, so it is very dark and you can sleep at any hour. The owners of the hotel are very nice, especially Sathiyaselan, who was exceptionally nice

IndiaThe room was advertised as enough for 3 people but it fitted no more than two comfortably. The bathroom was tiny with a shower almost co-located with the toilet, and in our cabana, the bathroom tended to flood if you took a shower as drainage was poor. The bidet refers to a health faucet. There is no restaurant. We were told that we could pre-order meals (from a limited but interesting menu) but since staffing is limited to a single caretaker, we chose instead to walk to one of the numerous restaurants nearby, or ask the caretaker (who is quite friendly and obliging) to bring something. Our cabana was on the ground floor so we did not get the beautiful view. There was a small seating area outside the room, though I would not call it a private balcony. The road to the cabana is not tarred and was a bumpy ride on a tuk tuk.
We did not have breakfast at the hotel as we left too early on both days. The setting of the cabana is very picturesque and green with a beautiful view from the balcony extending to the beach and beautiful azure sea. There is a beach within walking distance, Coconut Beach, which is clean and not very crowded. There are nearby restaurants that put out tables on the beach so that you can have your meal with a view of the sea. The hotel is away from the main road so it is very quiet. Wifi was good when we stayed.

United KingdomI felt supervised. They asked when I wanted to cook so they could ‘help me’. I’m a 40 year old woman! The shower was cold and you can’t angle the head The room was dark There were animals nesting in the walls of the cabana. I could hear the animals at night
Staff were so kind. I made a last minute booking and they stopped lunch and rushed back to let me check in as I was outside. I hadn’t realised they had to bring their lunch back with them. They went out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed and was comfortable. They gave me a mosquito net when I asked, provided a fridge in my room and made sure I could use the kitchen. They insisted on buying a new hob so I could cook safely. The roof terrace was lovely and you get a view of the sea, but the steps are extremely steep!
