Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IrelandSudath and his family were fantastic hosts, everything was delicious. The safari trip was absolutely amazing and Sudath has such amazing knowledge about the park and really cares for the environment. He will try his best to find and stop at all types of animals including even the smallest birds and lizards! 100% would recommend to anyone.

United KingdomNothing, we loved this place.
One of our favourite stays in Sri Lanka. Excellent value with incredible staff, Sudath and his family/team made us feel so welcome. We had tea and snacks on arrival and home cooked Sri Lankan food for dinner and breakfast which was delicious. We messaged beforehand and he arranged a safari tour with his son which was incredible. He also arranged a last minute taxi for our onwards travels which we were grateful for.

We had a great stay here and our hosts were excellent at making our stay as comfy as possible. The location is quiet and the garden has a “jungle” feel” . Our room had two large beds and a drying rack, mirror, and case rack. There were two good fans in the room and the large bathroom had a warm shower, although during the day there are regular power cuts so be prepared for a cold shower now and again! Everywhere was very clean and the mosquito nets were good to have as a back up to our mozzy spray. Our hosts Sudath and his wife Kanei made us very welcome and we enjoyed a laugh with them whenever we saw them. Sudath has sons who drive to the safari or the Elephant Orphanage or even on long journeys so they can arrange whatever type of trip you like at a fair price. We stayed 2 nights and the breakfast and dinner was both very plentiful and delicious! The Elephant Orphanage is a joy to visit and just a few minutes away from the Bungalow, and on our safari Vishal (or was it Ayush?!) was excellent at spotting the birds and wildlife and made sure we did see elephants even though it seemed they just wanted to hide away for the first few hours. We found it a great experience to stay at Silent Bungalow to a big thank you to all the family!!

United KingdomThe rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, simple, with good mosquito nets and fans. we received a very warm welcome with tea and delicious cake! the bungalows are very private and peaceful, set in shady grounds in a quiet area. All the food was delicious and available in huge proportions! Our hosts arranged an absolutely brilliant afternoon safari at a good price, our guide, their son, was so respectful of the animals and nature and was extremely knowledgeable, answering all of our questions. He was great at spotting the wildlife and we saw loads - many elephants, of course, but also lots of other birds and animals. We were really satisfied. our hosts also arranged transport to the elephant rehabilitation centre which was well worth it. The communal dining was lovely, we enjoyed meeting other guests and the monkeys provided much entertainment! Expect a few ants - impossible to avoid in this area! We would not hesitate to recommend Silent Bungalow.

United KingdomNothing - it was great!
We headed to Udawalawa for a safari and picked this accommodation based on a recommendation from another traveller who said she’d done a brilliant safari with the son of the owner from Silent Bungalow. The safari was incredible and very easy to organise through the accommodation. We told Sudath we were interested in a safari before we arrived and he gave us all the information we needed when we checked in. Sudath’s son Vishal took us out in the jeep and was very knowledgable about the animals and Udawalawe National Park. He kept a good distance from the animals and we didn’t feel like we were crowding them. He took us on nice routes that felt off the beaten track and was very helpful answering all our questions and giving us plenty of time to watch all the wildlife we saw (elephants, lots of different bird life, reptiles and even a leopard which ran across the path). The roads in general are really beautiful as you drive along the outside of the national park and can get great views over the lake/dam all the way to Ella and Nuwara Eliya in the distance, and to Hambanatota the other way! The accommodation was spotless and room huge, with lots of space for your things (tables, vanity, chairs, cupboard). The bathroom had a very powerful shower too which is always great! The hosts were amazingly helpful and very attentive. Sudath was very eager to help, answering all our questions and ensured we had everything we needed. The food was delicious, genuinely the best we’ve had in Sri Lanka, if you have the option to have dinner here, take it up! For our safari we were provided with a pack up breakfast in the national park which was amazing - you even got to have a another cup of delicious tea infused with ginger! We would highly recommend Silent Bungalow to other travellers, particularly those interested in an eco conscious safari. If we returned to Sri Lanka we would definitely go back!

GermanyNice room with terrace, very quiet. House.made curry was the best we have had in Sri Lanka. Safari with the son of the house was a great pleasure, he noticed every small or big animal, he gave us time for watching and a lot information - and served us a delicous breakfast during our 6 hour morning tour. A peaceful and enjoyable tour! Thanks for this.

Sri LankaThis is the best place that we were stayed during our trip. That place is very clam, silent, clean and beautiful place. The owners are also very friendly and they serve to customers properly. Their services and treatments are excellent. There charge is also very fair. This place can be highly recommended. I think this is the best place for Udawalawa visitors to stay and enjoy trips.

AustriaFor the price nothing to complain about. The Wi-Fi didn’t work in our room but we had our mobile data anyway.
Spacious and spotless rooms with comfortable bed equipped with mosquito net, fan, private bathroom with hot shower and outside sitting terrace. The room price of 6$ per night was fair. The lovely couple welcomed us with tea and cake and help with any regards. They have their own Safari Jeeps. We went on a 4h Safari with them for a jeep price of 13000 rupees (fits 6 persons, excluding national park entrance fee) which was well organized. They offer dinner and breakfast on request which we however didn’t take. The place is very peaceful and quiet, about 25min walk to the main road where you can find shops and good local restaurants. Recommend this place for a short stay and Safari.
