- first time in sri lanka that accommodation looks better in real life than in pictures. Spacious and clean. - Hosts were amazing I can't find good words to describe them. They really really went out of their way to make our stay better, each morning different breakfast, which we couldn't eat, so we would save it for later in the fridge (by the 3 day fridge was full).. Help with which beaches to visit (which are best for our 2y daughter). Restaurant recommandation, Tuk tuk rates so we don't get scammed Help with transport to mirissa - it is close to 2 beaches - lovely garden with lots of fruits. - ac and hot water is always available.

Location was perfect for us, it’s in walkable distance to unakuruwa beach which is swimming friendly. Close to the silent beach. Garden was very beautiful with natural trees. Room was spacious and very clean. Owners themselves welcomed us with great hospitality. Loved the Breakfast it was very good.

Location is excellent, close to the beautiful silent beach and like a green oasis with many fruits growing in the garden. The host is one of the most dedicated hosts I’ve ever met. Every request was fulfilled right away and he provide a different breakfast every day. Absolutely recommend this place (also to people with children).

Lovely clean and comfortable room set in lush gardens with sun loungers on our balcony. Breakfast was varied and plentiful and served on our balcony. Staff were really lovely and helpful. Room has a separate kitchenette with large fridge. Focus on little extras is excellent - handwash not bar of soap, extra hand towel by sink, large beach towels, two plump pillows etc. Really good value for money and would highly recommend.

Unakuruwa is a nice quiet location without crouds of tourists. Small shops, sweet family eateries, a bus stop and a beach just around the corner, other beaches at a walkable distance and by bus. As mentioned in other comments, great stuff, clean, superb breakfasts. Surprisingly, there were no mosquitos, so we could enjoy our evenings outside. We were concerned about the combined. WC/shower, but the water dried quickly in day hours, so it was ok. Totally pleased with our stay!

Everything was simply perfect. We were very impressed by the kindness and high level of hospitality of the host family. The breakfast was fabulous; it was not only breakfast but also lunch and dinner at once.

We booked the two bedroom apartment, there was an ornamental lattice above the internal doorway that had large gaps (probably to allow air circulation between the rooms), the only issue with this was that the bedrooms were no longer sound proof.

Friendly owner made an amazing breakfast for us and delivered it to our balcony. Location is very close to the beach, rooms were very clean.

We really enjoyed staying at this beautiful property. The best part is the amazing balcony you can feel you are in a jungle with many beautiful trees. Even though there were some rainy days sitting on the balcony still made it a nice feeling. The wifi is super good too, we were able to work easily. The breakfast js amazing, the best we had in Sri Lanka, big, varied and taste meals! The host family is super kind and helpful. They can help in motorbike renting too.

Everything was superb.

We had a wonderful stay. The property is uniquely beautiful, with a lush tropical garden filled with squirrels and peacocks. The view from that terrace will from now on be one of my favourite travel moments. We were met with such hospitality and kindness, truly a pleasurable experience. Make sure you arrange a dinner at the property! It was so delicious.

Shadow Surf is a wonderful house in a beautiful setting. The facilities are ideal with a very comfy big bed, small kitchenette and well fitted bathroom with hot shower. Set in a stunning tropical garden with beautiful birds and squirrels everywhere, even the occasional monkey and snake come past to see what’s happening as you sit on the comfy loungers outside. Close by are numerous good local shops and places to eat we really enjoyed Pubudu’s Sri Lankan curry next door and a 5 minute walk to Secret Beach which is the most stunning and quiet tropical beach gives you a few seafood restaurants for after a washing in the shorebreak (it gets wild). It’s so quiet and peaceful in Shadow we enjoyed being able to grab a tuk tuk into Tangalle (5 mins) of Dickwella and Hiriketiya (10 mins) and return to our tropical oasis. Pradeep and his wife whom are the hosts are simply amazing. Breakfast is nothing short of a banquet with enough food provided to be put in the fridge and enjoyed for lunch and even dinner later. They are incredibly polite and friendly and just really nice people to chat with about local life and gain pointers of what’s happening locally. A 30 second walk from the beach and a great surf break, we came for 4 days and stayed for 2 weeks and will definitely be coming back in the future.

Shadow Surf Bay was absolutely wonderful and every consideration was given to my comfort, from suggesting where to visit, to bringing me fresh coconut, to supplying facilities for clothes washing, even getting up to see me off at 5.30am! The food was absolutely stunning, and I am now addicted to egg hoppers with avocado and chilli 😄 Shadow Surf Bay is a quiet accommodation just back from the beach with places to relax outside the room.

From arrival we were treated like royalty. Sumptuous breakfasts, fabulous gardens and the beach on our doorstep. Turtles swimming in the water was a highlight. Pradeep took charge to organise trips to other beaches, fishing trip, tuk tuks, train guidance and train transfers. The hospitality was unparalleled in its generosity. Fish caught were cooked and served to perfection. We had great conversations and laughs. Cannot recommend highly enough.
