Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandA bit overpriced but the amazing pool and lovely breakfast made up for it. Off a very busy road so a bit tricky to walk anywhere, but otherwise pretty central. Staff were really helpful too. The restaurant was very pricey but it's a short walk to the main shopping strip and lots of cheaper eats.

Sri LankaThe front office reception staff in particular were great - warm welcome with a smile and efficient check in process. The rooms and toilets were clean and sleep comfort was good with AC's working well. Breakfast provided was good. Has a beautiful garden and large pool in lovely setting overlooking forest patch across and you can enjoy the visiting monkeys and bird life. The main building itself and the governor's residence has its old charm and is well maintained.

FranceThe breakfast could be improved: have more choices and be more local with Sri Lanka delicacies for example.
The swimming pool is great. The location is amazing close to the beach and the restaurant. The garden is beautiful with all the animals.

AustraliaThe festival that was on during our stay (22-26 July) made it very crowded and difficult to get about with my elderly mother. The noise from the loudspeakers which were blaring religious speak was hard to handle as it was constant..
It's great that you can catch a bus to Galle from just outside the hotel. There are also a couple of small stores located close by fron which you can buy water and fruits at a reasonable price.

United KingdomSometimes room cleaning wasn’t until late in the day, needs to be earlier and not when you are wanting afternoon rest time. Shower pressure very low and mostly cold water. Awful creaky wooden bed frame very noisy. Breakfast could be improved very repetitive, same food every day. This hotel needs to be updated, having said that, hotel has so much potential. Used spa area, nice but again needs sprucing up and maintenance. Should definitely have a large fan in the reception area which was very hot and humid when guests are waiting.
The location was fab very central to all amenities lovely balcony view of the lake. Lovely friendly staff. pool area nice and good towel service.

United StatesThey breed mosquitos with all the standing water they have around the property yet provide no nets for protection. Also, they tend to overpromise. We had confirmed twin beds upon booking (buddy trip). They put us in a single. When we protested, they upgraded us to a triple room that had multiple beds, but if they hadn’t had any available rooms, it would have been bad. They claim it’s a 5-minute walk to a super awesome beach. Try 15+ minutes of traffic dodging to an OK beach. General maintenance is mid-level.
Has sizeable grounds making it a nice oasis in an otherwise busy location. Very good breakfast buffet. The air con worked great, and we had hot water in the shower (a rarity for us in Sri Lanka). Good wi-fi, which I mention because sometimes with heritage buildings the construction interferes with the wi-fi. Here, the heritage buildings are used for the lobby and eating areas, while the guest rooms are more modern construction (maybe 20 years old). On-site wildlife including monkeys, birds, and monitor lizards. Don’t let your kids play in the pond out back, saw an alligator in there.

United KingdomThe wifi was patchy and only really worked on our balcony.
The room was really comfortable, with tea/coffee facilities and a fridge. The balcony was lovely, overlooking the pool. Shower was (very) hot! The pool was great and lots of wildlife in the gardens. There was a large selection of food for breakfast everyday. We also used the spa which was nice. The location was ok - about a 10 to 20min walk to the beach, along the way there are lots of restaurants and bars. Although it's on the main road, you don't notice it at all once you're in the hotel.

United KingdomVery dated room, which requires better ventilation, I.e. mosquito net windows so you can sleep at night without waking up to a musky mildew smell everywhere. As fantastic as the history of the hotel is, the rooms could do with some TLC. With upgraded rooms, this hotel has amazing potential to possibly be a 5 star with its grounds and facilities.

AzerbaijanThe resort is a little bit far from the sea (12-15mins by walk). Sometimes you just decide to sit around the pool just because of that distance. Be prepared to have cash (Rupees), otherwise they will charge you for very bad rate of other currencies ($, € etc.). The hotel doesn't give you beach towels. If you want one, you have to pay for that (not just deposit).
This is one of the best options you can find in Unawatuna when it comes to the nature, service and location. It is a Dutch style resort managed by locals. This is one of the few options where the breakfast is buffet. Tasty food and quite rich is served for breakfast. There is a nice pool where you can enjoy sunbath, if you are too lazy to go to the beach. We had everyday room service and that was a very good thing for us (you have a clean room and towels, water etc.) The environment is quite green in the resort and you can also see some birds or monkeys if you are lucky.

United Arab EmiratesExcellent location. A very large pool and that was cleaned every day. Lovely gardens surrounding the property. Very quiet despite being situated on a busy road. Very friendly and helpful staff. We opted for the Superior Double room, which was a good decision as it is a good size and faces the pool or garden/ mountain.
