Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomA fridge would have been a welcome addition to the room .
What a fabulous hotel; this is a real gem! The hotel is set in a beautiful location on the banks of the Mekong. The hotel is very well maintained and the staff are extremely helpful and pleasant. Sam the manager was delightful and helped us with transfers etc. we used the bicycles to explore the island and the nearby town of Champasak on the mainland. Where we found two lovely cafes. The food in the hotel was excellent and there was plenty of choice. There was a nice but basic little restaurant on the island called Mr Mees where we ate a couple of times. We will definitely return when we visit southern Laos again. Sadly no fridge in the room; this would have been a nice addition. We enjoyed the pool area very much but our only gripe was the yoga teacher seemed to conduct her calls on loud speaker in this area which was distinctly irritating for the guests. It would have been nice if she could have considered others!

Very good boutique hotel at Don Daeng island with its own transport from and to main land. Perfect location to enjoy the sunset on the south of Laos. The restaurant in the hotel offers good variety of dishes and the chef is very flexionad would make an effort to please your needs if any customization required. We stayed in the Ban Lao suit, a traditional house Lao style room, very comfy and well distributed. The bar offers extensive quantity of drinks and well prepared. There are bikes available for customer at free cost. All these good things are only improved by the personalized and charm treatment from the staff.

Loved the location, the setting, the view, the quiet nature of the lodge. Restaurant was lovely, staff was great.

GermanyThe communication was sometimes not as fluent as hoped for, in particular concerning the location in Pakse where we were picked up by the private boat. In part this is due to difficulties in English with some of the junior staff (but it's positive that they giv local people a chance and English courses. The bikes that were supplied for free were not well serviced, on the two bikes we had the rear brake was not working. The breakkfast was very good, but I had expected something more.
Very nice lodge with only a few pavilions, with nice terrace in front of room, and others in restaurant and garden. Very friendly reception, convenient boat shuttle to other side of the Mekong. Excellent view and atmosphere. The lodge could organize a boat pick-up from Pakse (for 70 Dollars; but see below) and other tours. Overall, a highly recommendable place.

AustraliaThe bike ride around Don Daeng was fantastic, but the last part has very bad tracks that made cycling difficult.
The staff was so helpful, the rooms were just lovely, the view was spectacular. We were so relaxed the whole weekend. The beach hot pot was a sensational experience. Learning about how La Folie has helped the islands residents and developed the infrastructure and contributed to economic empowerment and education was fantastic.

CanadaA little pricey…comparable accommodation for less money is available on the Champasak side of the Mekong.
A uniquely located property - only hotel on Don Daeng Island - with traditionally styled accommodation. Lovely views of the river and mountains behind. We had a lovely time with the available bicycles exploring the many quaint little villages that dot the island. Relaxing by the lovely pool in the heat of the afternoon was wonderful.

United KingdomWith Aum on hand, anything which we requested, extra blankets, extra water was quickly sorted and therefore there was nothing to dislike.
The Location of La Folie Lodge is breathtaking! The Mekong view, the sunsets, the gardens magical. However, equally wonderful was the fabulous Aum, who greeted us and helped organise our activities in Champasak. Her English was fabulous and she was so proactive, smart and hospitable! She gave us a bicycle torch in the evening, organised our bicycles on the boat to cycle to Wat Phu for the most perfect day of our holiday. If you are planing a Champasak vacation, Aum at La Folie is the lady to make holiday dreams come true!

Great quality of food. Great surrondings with a very nice beach and view of the mekong river. A lot of activities can be organized throught the lodge (bycicle, wat phu temple, cooking classes, etc.)

United KingdomI couldn't fault it.
A five star experience from beginning to end, a very special place. Somehow, visiting during rainy season, we were their only guests - and we had the most exceptional experience. The island is beautiful, and the hotel has been set up a bit like a social enterprise to encourage investment in the local people. They grow all lots of their own vegetables, including their own rice in their beautiful on site rice paddy! Staff couldn't be more helpful. Highlights were a sunset river trip on the Mekong complete with snacks and wine, swimming in the pool with beautiful views, breakfast on our terrace, and a bike ride around the traffic free island. They also arranged all of our transfers including a trip to Wat Phou on our way down from Pakse - do not miss it! Thanks again to the lovely team, what a special start to our honeymoon!

United KingdomNothing
On a peaceful island with boat service directly to it, this is a wonderful hotel to spend a few days. The rooms are lovely and most look out onto the Mekong. The staff couldn’t be more helpful. The restaurant serves lovely food at all times with a nice selection of wine. The pool is warm and relaxing. Bikes are free and we highly recommend cycling around the island. The hotel will also organise trips to the temple and also down to four thousand islands. Recommend highly.

United StatesIt was a poor hotel accommodation. We expected better service and richer breakfasts. Located on island with long logistics to cross the river, we expected more options in the hotel for fruits and snacks during the day. Information was difficult to obtain, and was often inaccurate. I wouldn't recommend.

United KingdomBeds were hard, a mattress topper would have done wonders. However, other beds in Laos were hard and uncomfortable so perhaps this is all that is available. Property was very overpriced, not so much for the rooms but food, drinks and airport transfers were 2 of 3 times more than they should be. When we checked out staff were insistent that we hadn't paid the full amount due, this turned out to be a dinner taken by another couple staying at the same time, they insisted my husband pay for this dinner as well, obviously he refused. English is limited, which is to be expected, but it does make paying the bill and organising transport very difficult. Our airport transfer driver turned up at the airport without our name on a board so we had no idea who he was. It's the little things that sometimes make the difference between good and excellent.
Gorgeous hotel with enormous rooms, well furnished and exceptionally clean. Fantastic views and friendly staff. Extremely well kept property.
