Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe listing stated that you could organise tours there, but when I asked I was told that people usually organise them themselves. Wasn't too big of an issue as I was only there for a short time.
Good location, short walk to the water to watch the sunset. Close by to restaurants. The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. The balcony was great, to have some fresh air.

VietnamThe government was broadcasting at 6am for 90 minutes a few days in a row (not their fault). The quality of food at the restaurant is not up to the standard in Vientiane (same owner). The WIFI was out for 5 days, which was inconvenient for my working. However, they did give a discount so that was nice.
It's the location, colonial architecture, charming views and spacious rooms. I loved the suite with wrap wrap-around balcony. The staff are very kind and helpful. They were great with my daughter and flexible with me. I found myself in the room I wanted. Ambiance.

United KingdomThe staff were quite unhelpful. They could offer no information about tours bus journeys etc in spite of the giant banner outside the hotel boasting that they did. There was no room service so the bins got very unpleasant and we had to ask for them to be emptied.
A really stylish and comfortable hotel right in the heart of the old town. The bar and restaurant were really nice and we’re a great meeting place.

BelgiumAfter a bus drive of 8 hours arrived, no one at the reception. After 20 minutes I asked around, no answer. The owner turned up after 40 minutes. Apologized, asked to pay and asked if I was interested in the Thathek loop in 1 sentence, that says enough. This is not a place to stay but a travel agent for the Thathek loop Pelgrims, if that's you're thing go for it
Nothing

NetherlandsHard mattress though (but nice soft pillows).
Without any doubt the most atmospheric place to stay in downtown Thakhek. We especially loved the dark wooden floors and our romantic balcony. Our room was spotless clean and comfortable, without all the extras that we never use anyway, and even came with a lovely hot shower. Included breakfast was simple but delicious and served with a smile in the great open restaurant downstairs. Filter coffee as much as you want. Service was friendly and helpful. Initially there was some confusion about the room we booked, but the staff was very understanding and willing to look for a solution. We regretted we only could stay one night and definitely would choose again for Inthira on a next visit to Thakhek.

AustriaThe management was terrible. We only had one blanket in our double bed, which was pretty small. Also my partner felt sick one night and started shivering, which is why we asked for a second blanket. The staff called the manager, who told him to charge us 100000 Kip for the additional blanket. We felt pressured to agree to that price at this moment, because we felt that we really didn’t have a choice. When checking out we expressed our upset over the situation and that we didn’t think it was right to charge for a blanket at a hotel, where assumingly we already paid for spending the night, where blankets are included. Nevertheless we said that we would pay the price if he insisted. The manager didn’t really respond to that, except by saying that he would charge the 100000 Kip from the staff that gave us the blanket, if we wouldn’t pay. This appeared like blackmail to us. We expressed that we didn’t feel that this was okay in any fashion. In the end he gave in verbally, but to be honest we were unsure if he ended up charging his staff or not. We left feeling very upset.
We stayed for a total of 3 nights, one night at a standard room and two nights at a deluxe or superior room. In the standard room there was a window facing a wall with a distance of maximum 50 cm, so there was basically no light coming in. The upgraded room had plenty of daylight. Both rooms were clean and also furnished decently.
