Private Hotel Rei is the warmest place in the cool Kawakuchi Lake during late September. I traveled with my mom and we had a wonderful stay here! The owner couple were so friendly and very welcoming for all the coming guests. They make you feel like going to a close relative’s house. Our stay was super cozy and our room was spacious, clean and even with our own private onsen! The owner was super generous and hospitality to have fun and warm conversation with all of us. And also sharing the history of Rei and their interesting experiences! Unfortunately the Fujisan is too shy during our stay, however what we experienced here is more than the view, and we will definitely come back to visit Private Hotel Rei again! One more thing, the dinner and breakfast were really delicious and with very fine ingredients, one can not only enjoy the Fujisan view (not this time, but on a good day) but also having superb meal. Plus this time there were three groups of guests bringing their own pets together, this place is the best animal friendly hotel I’ve ever been. Great view of Mt Fuji from the room. Spa included in the bathroom, with a window looking out on the lake and towards the mountain. Very comfortable room with all the necessary features. The host was friendly and had great recommendations for the local area.

Honestly, there wasn't very much to dislike. The hotel is most easily accessibly by car, so we took a taxi from the train station when we arrived. However, Yoshi, the owner, was kind enough to drop us off at the train station on our way out (so this wasn't even a real con).

I really enjoyed the spectacular view of Mount Fuji that we had! The owner, Yoshi and his wife, were also incredibly hospitable toward us. Dinner and breakfast were among the best meals we had in Japan.

The location is amazing because you get a Mt Fuji view across Lake Kawaguchiko without urban build-up in between like you might find on the eastern shore. The hotel is secluded (really a pro), but it can take some time to get into/out of town. If you rent a car (I didn't) or plan ahead, the location is really still a pro all around.

The hotel is in a beautiful setting with Mt Fuji visible from all rooms and the dining area. The rooms are equipped with onsen baths and have plenty of space for a group. There are only 5 rooms in the whole hotel, so it's a very intimate experience. I can't recommend the meals highly enough. All the reviews here are true, Yoshi (owner/hote manager/chef) is exceptional and will make the meal experience at this ryokan special. There are multi-course breakfasts and 6-course dinners with a mix of local and international cuisines.

Nothing - except maybe the weather on the last day!

What a little gem of a hotel right on the lake shore. The photo they use is exactly the view from our bedroom - although we didn't see completely to the top of Mt Fuji we saw nearly all of it. Had a private onsen (hot spa bath) room which was welcome at the end of a long drive. Host and owner was super helpful and very friendly. An enormous dinner and breakfast were included in the price of the room. Tasty and imaginative food and friendly service.

Not a negative but a warning - you need a car to explore this area. It’s necessary due to being unable to predict the weather so you can’t really plan activities until a few days befote. The roads are super easy to drive on & we just picked a car up from Shin-Fuji.

Fabulous property, Yoshi and his family were a delight. Onsen was sooo relaxing & views were amazing. Also would recommend having a dinner & breakfast there.

Can not be reach by public transportation. Having your own car is the best option.

What a wonderful experience we had at this quaint 5 room hotel. It felt more like a B&B, our hosts were so friendly and welcoming. If you stay you must select the half board options that includes breakfast and dinner. Yoshi the chef and owner will surprise you with his fusion dishes and his wife's desserts will have you beg for more. Our double room was noting fancy but it was very comfortable and we particularly enjoyed our very own private onsen. If you are lucky you will have the best views of Mount Fuji right at your door step.

Truthfully, there was nothing about this stay that we did not like. I stayed with my grandmother who has lots of opinions, and she was immediately calling all her friends telling them they have to visit Private Hotel Rei.

The staff was incredibly friendly, inviting, and helpful. We were provided tips on where to take the best pictures, what areas to visit, and what kind of food we should eat. The food was also incredible - homemade, delicious, and filling! I made the trip with my 90-year-old grandmother, and I've never seen her so happy with the staff, location, and overall experience.

Yoshi, was the best host who went out of his way with his pleasing smile to take care of my mother and me. We had trouble hiring a car and he actually drive us to the car rentals and tried to help us.

The dinner we paid for additionally was awesome (a 6-course dinner). The breakfast was also very good. Everything was cooked by the host himself - Yoshi. He appeared to be a very nice guy. He was very kind to us. He explained to us many interesting things and gave us a ride in his car on the day we left. He showed us some pretty good spots to take a picture with the Sakura trees and Mount Fuji. The whole stay there was one not to forget. Absolutely recommend staying there!

The owner, Yoshi was absolutely fantastic. He was very kind and an absolute master of a chef as well. The rooms were neatly nestled next to the side of a hill and you have one of the best views of Mt. Fuji. If you are planning on staying here as a couple or with a group of friends, it will NOT dissapoint you. 10/10. Thank you Yoshi.

Wonderful hosts made us feel at home and cared for the whole time. Yoshi speaks excellent English, and has abundant enthusiasm and travel ideas to share. Delicious food and drinks for dinner and breakfast. Gorgeous location on the waterfront. Sparkling clean. Delightful private bath onsen to enjoy and was hot and ready upon our arrival.

Travelers should consider renting a car to get around this area- there’s plenty to see but transit requires long waits and stops are quite far apart. We rented a car at Shin-Fuji and it was an excellent decision. The hotel has very convenient parking.

Charming cottage atmosphere right on the lake with stunning views if the weather permits. Furo was very hot and nice. Food was elegant and delicious! The meals were deeply intentional and locally-focused. I highly recommend visitors choose half-board!

In the first place, the location of the hotel Rei is superb. Host is very hospitable and helpful, he speaks good English and provided us with tips where to take the best pictures. Cusine is very well-prepared. In-house onsen is well setup upon our arrival.

Everything!!! Our host Yoshi took great care of us from start till end. He is truly a masterchef in his own way, serving us a wonderful dinner and breakfast that cannot be found anywhere else. His hamburg is seriously the juiciest one we have ever eaten. I only wish I stayed 2 nights so that I can savor his food all over again! The property itself offers such an amazing view throughout our stay (granted we were really lucky that weather was sunny and clear!), and the facilities are clean and well maintained. The hidden beach just across the road with Mt Fuji is another gem that only this hotel has. This stay didn’t just feel like another night of our vacation, it felt like a priceless night and morning of conversations over food with a newfound friend. Thank you Yoshi and wife for all your kindness and hospitality, we will definitely be back when we come back to Fuji 🤗
