Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe property is tired and could do with a renovation. However, this did not deter us from loving our stay. I had read such negative reviews which were not warranted. We had a wonderful experience.
Great location directly on Lake Kawaguchiko and great views of Mt Fuji. We loved our superior Japanese room with private outdoor bath facing out to Mt Fuji. This short stay was the highlight of our trip to Japan.

AustraliaI wish I booked 2 nights stay to explore the area. Being a non-Japanese visitor, I struggle to communicate with staff. And would be very grateful to offer more coffee in breakfast for coffee-addicted people like me.
Location, great staff, onsen, excellent meals (the best Japanese food I had), highly recommend to couples, perfect honey moon-ers

United StatesRepairs on the wood work refurbishing some of the walls and furniture pieces. Otherwise we had a great stay loved the 70-80's vibe.
We had a spectacular lake view and loved the tatami mats in our room. We had some small tables and kimonos to use as well. The Onsen on the property was great and loved the view of Mt. Fuji from the Onsen and the rooftop.

United StatesSome of the hotel was slightly warm, likely due to the onsens throughout the hotel, that made traversing throughout it sometimes slightly less comfortable.
Fantastic, phenomenal, and tasteful dinner and breakfast food service that would be at home in a 5 star hotel. The private Onsen with a view of Fuji really gave me a sense of peace and comfort - especially after a hard hike up Mt. Fuji.

MalaysiaHowever, this place is still a short walk away from town so we have to walk a bit to Lake Kawaguichiko or to look for food in the town area.
We booked the room with Mt Fuji view + dinner/breakfast and it was an excellent choice. The hotel is in a lovely location with pretty views of the lake and Mt Fuji. Dinner/breakfast was well done and very filling. We had exceptional service from their staff, especially Hein who shuttle us to/from Kawaguichiko station and carried our bags/luggages to our rooms. He was polite and helpful. We love the rustic and authentic charm of the whole ryokan experience.

AustraliaLocation is very convenient , walking distance to the Lake, dinner and breakfast are both satisfied. Staffs are all very friendly and helpful. This hotel is very very traditional style. It is a good experience with a tatami style room and semi open bath with facing Mt Fuji mountain. We just parked the car in front of the hotel. Overall experience was 8/10.

AustraliaThe only thing I didn't like is no fault of theirs, but mine for not booking more than one night!
We really enjoyed the facilities available, particularly the public bath. I'd never been in a public bath before, so I was quite nervous, but eventually felt safe and comfortable. After enjoying the jacuzzi and the other baths, there are sections where you can shower supplied with body soap and hair wash products, and they also provide skincare products for you to use as well when you are done! Breakfast and dinner was wonderful; clean foods and quite a lot of it too! We had the perfect view of Mount Fuji from our private ryokan and would highly recommend! The transport provided made the journey stress free too! I also really appreciate how great the communication was from start to finish.

SingaporeStayed for 3 nights in the lake view room with hot bath and it was absolutely wonderful! Facilities are clean and staff are very friendly and accommodating. The interiors are slightly dated but well maintained and honestly very charming and vintage looking. We drove around Kawaguchiko and this hotel was just a few mins drive away from the main attractions. The area itself is quiet and slightly away from the tourist crowds which was really nice too.

United StatesWe were splurging on this and expected excellence. The food was not as good as some we'd already had. Half of the onsen window was fogged up and you couldn't see Fuji very well from there. The "terrace" did have a good view of Fuji but it was a tiny deck with standing room only. The place seemed a little shabby. For example, my spoon at dinner was chipped. No big deal, but not the quality I'd expect for the price. The front desk kept trying to deter us from our itinerary because we probably wouldn't be able to see Fuji with the weather. They also tried to deter us from taking a taxi because they said it would be too expensive. We had our own priorities, and they were a little pushy with their opinions.
The staff seemed really friendly and helpful at first. When we lost a passport, we emailed them and they looked for us. They even called the train station info desk when we asked them to.
