Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We’re currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil, and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

FranceNothing special to report.
This room was reserved for my daughter and her partner so did not experience it myself but it looked alright and the hotel although not new seems in good order. The staff at the front desk seems to be well trained and efficient. The structure of the hotel is quite charming with its British wooden style decoration and large stuffed bears spread out in the lobby...As we live in Karuizawa ourselves, our daughter and her partner did not experience the hotel meal options.

Hong KongYou have to call taxi or drive wherever you go. However, waiting time for taxi is long on weekends.
The private bath is awesome. The breakfast is tasty. The wine bar offers delicious food.

JapanThe price is a little steep, but it’s probably because we booked quite late and it was also peak season.
We absolutely love the size of the room. It was huge and the bed was very comfortable too. Decorations of the hotel were tastily done and it just gave us a very comfortable feeling. The restaurant breakfast is a must to try because the ingredients, the bread are just fantastic. They individually made the bun and the ambience was so comfortable. We stayed for 2 nights and we went for their breakfast for two morning. They do also have nice dinner bar also and feel free to try them too. But the breakfast was the highlight.

JapanRooms were smaller than expected. But manageable.
The hotel was really pretty. Not too far from the station but we took a cab to get there, having missed the shuttle. Given the proximity to the train station, it wasn't expensive. We got a nice welcome with a fireplace in the lobby. Our room was nice, although smaller than we expected. We did manage. It also had a nice small balcony with a nice view of the courtyard behind the hotel as it snowed. The restaurant was the highlight. The setting was romantic, the food top-notch and we did have a nice time. They also have a shuttle at checkout time that took us back to the train / Shinkansen station. It's a free shuttle that leaves at set times and I would highly recommend it, particularly if it is raining or snowing.

United States of AmericaWe had 2 meals...dinner at the Wine Tavern and the breakfast buffet. The dinner was horrible...tasteless and overpriced. The "healthy breakfast buffet" was enjoyable because I personally like vegetables and healthier options. The homemade milk bread was FABULOUS!!! The public baths were an interesting concept. You had to use a computer near the front desk to book a reservation for the many baths scattered throughout the property. My husband is a furo freak and normally will soak 3x per a 1 night stay but he only went once because he said it wasn't very hot or enjoyable.
Property felt like a Swiss Chalet in Karuizawa but the rooms felt like "Glamping". An interesting concept. Rooms were clean but dated. The website advertises newly renovated rooms but we obviously didn't pay the premium for these rooms so I understand you get what you pay for.

AustraliaAt their wine bar, the quantity of food was very small, especially the chocolate dessert was not worthy.
We really enjoyed their private onsen. The lobby was warm and cosy with a fire place. The rooms were clean and spacious. The outside of the hotel looks cute and nice for photos.

PortugalAccording to the lady at the reception, customers can only make reservations for dinner at the hotel restaurant for the following evening. Even so, that evening (when we did our check-in) we thought we could have something to eat at the hotel bar, since it was still open (it was a bit after 8:00 pm). But they were no longer serving any kind of food, only wine. We were taken by surprise, and then it was late to search for a nearby restaurant because they close early, and so do convenient stores. So we just ate what we had with us that evening.
We loved the architecture of the hotel, the rustic chic ambience, the Victorian style with a Japanese touch, and the surrounding nature. It's certainly worth staying!

NetherlandsThat we had to make a reservation for everything, but we’re the kind of people that like to see what the day brings. So we didn’t eat at the property, and we couldn’t get a beer there because you’d have to book that in advance too. But as said before, a few restaurants and supermarkets at walking distance, so we didn’t starve.
It looks beautiful, there’s a few restaurants, a conbini and a good size supermarket nearby. Staff is very friendly, coffee is good. The room was a good size with a huge comfortable bed. The onsen is a private (very) hot bath semi outside, so that was nice. You can book it for 45 minutes on the same day.

JapanThe hotel building made from woods. So I sometimes heard noise from other rooms or somewhere. There are some buildings combine together so it’s sometimes little bit far to go to restaurant and front or something. There’s no elevator, so it’s inconvenient for older people or the people who have babies. We stayed in the newer building but actually not so new and it’s in the forest so not so clean, I mean they clean but there were spiderwebs in the ceiling.
The hotel is classical and has a forest and garden. The rooms have a bath tub in the bathroom but the hotel has many individual small outdoor Onsen which is called Rotenburo. Some of them have Ganbanbuto. They were so nice. And the restaurant has terrace table. To have breakfast in the terrace or outside was really nice because even summertime , the temperature is not hot , feeling fantastic.
