Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IndonesiaBecause the single room in the tatami mat it has a little bit of a smell, but it's okay for me. Maybe better ventilation is needed
The location is very strategic, as it is near the atomic bomb museum. Additionally, the staff is friendly. They are willing to explain things in English and wait for me even if I'm a bit late for check-in.

United StatesThey don't have wifi in the lobby, so after i checked out at 10am and came downstairs to figure out where to go, there was no wifi to use.
Pretty close to the HIroshima peace memorial, which is the only thing I actually cared about seeing. Which is actually pretty close to the Hondori, which I discovered was amazing and spent the entire day walking through. Great Ryokan experience. The bed was thicker than I was expecting, meaning more comfortable than just a sheet on the ground. Unit had A/C and multiple outlets. It has a Luup station right outside, so it was easy to grab that and travel to the memorial.

SwitzerlandThe hallways were baking hot without aircon. The communal bath seemed to be closed despite opening time. The kitchen/restaurant smells very strongly of fatty foods.
Location is perfect. The team running the place are super kind.

United StatesThe layout of the hotel is a little funky with three different bldgs connected by passageways. It was OK once I learned the layout of the ryokan. .

New ZealandThe light was too bright for quiet relaxation. Perhaps an alternative, such as a small table lamp with warm/yellow light could be provided.
N/A as I did not have breakfast in my booking. The location was perfect for me - walking distance from the places I needed to visit.

PolandBy default, the property only allows checking in up to 8 PM (which can be problematic if you arrive in Hiroshima later than that), there is no breakfast option, and the staff does not speak English.
The location is amazing, the room was clean and well-prepared, and the price is affordable.

United KingdomThe mens communal bath is a nice touch, but the side of the tub could use a bit of clean as it didnt look too appealing I, had to reassure myself that the water was actually clean (which it was)
Staff are very welcoming, the rooms are perfect if you want to immerse yourself in Japanese culture. The shared toilets and shower rooms are nice clean. The location is right next to the Memorial peace park, museum and city centre.

United StatesFinding check in desk was a little confusing --> I accidentally went next door first but you have to go to the "New Ikawa" front desk to check in. Room was clean but I needed to look for extra blankets otherwise I would have been a bit chilly at night. Also I missed how to find and use the public bath.
Owners are very courteous and welcoming. Let me check in early as room was ready. Place is conveniently located near local tram station and walking distance from the Atomic Bomb Dome park. Next time would try the meals as they are home cooked.

JapanThe standard pillow was too hard, but luckily there was another one in the room. The hotel building is not the newest, so sometimes you can hear noise made by other guests. Therefore, it would be a good idea to have earplugs with you.
Not a bad place to spend the night at a reasonable price. The staff is very friendly and can communicate in English if needed. The hotel is located near a streetcar stop, there is also a supermarket and a convenience store nearby. I didn't do any sightseeing this time, but I think the hotel is suitable for that purpose as well.
