Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Hello, we had a wonderful time in this hotel. The house is fully made from wood in the japanese way and very beautiful and located directly in the mountains. The owner and his family are very friendly.

Great remote location in the mountains. Nice shuttle service provided by the owner for free. The owner and the staff knows very good english, we were impressed. We had a nice evening with sake tasting at a fair price and the women that works there was very friendly, kind and professional. The accommodation is in an old style Japanese house, very authentic.

AustraliaA very minor thing - the pillow was a bit ‘crunchy’ - but perhaps it’s a traditional filling.
A beautiful Japanese rural home in a stunning location. The owners have created a tranquil space with interesting and very thoughtfully crafted interior decor and different spaces for guests to enjoy, use and relax in. We stayed for 3 nights and made use of the well equipped guest kitchen to cook some Japanese inspired meals. We also enjoyed the delicious meals offered by the hosts, the home made plum wine and sake tasting. Staff were great and the free shuttle service is good and necessary as the accommodation is quite a distance from the station and grocery store.

Very kind and generous hosts Rei and Hiro. We arrived in Nagiso after walking from Magome in a particularly heavy downpour and the hosts collected us from Nagiso station, hung up our wet hiking gear and put our completely sodden boots near the fire to dry. The hostel is a beautiful renovated farmhouse. It is like a living work of art and I really admired the creativity and attention to detail that went into this project. The curry dinner was lovely. breakfast was nice too- toast, homemade yoghurt, egg, banana. I did the sake tasting, and would recommend this. The hostel is located on the Nakasendo way a few kilometres from Nagiso on the way to Nojiri. We really loved our stay here. Thankyou Rei and Hiro.

BelgiumWhere to begin... Yui-an is a little gem in the mountains. One of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed at, designed with so much care for detail. Loved the view of the mountains for breakfast every morning, the delicious curry for evening dinner, and relaxing in the shared spaces. The hostess was the kindest, we had nice conversations over dinner every evening, and she explained us which places to visit and how to hike the Nakasendo trail nearby. Highly recommended.

United KingdomWe had an amazing one night stay at Hostel Yui-an. We would love to come back and stay for longer! The host picked us up from Nagiso station after our walk along the Nakasendo trail and took us the short journey to the house. The decor was stunning and very well laid out and is such a beautiful home. Our room was lovely and even although the weather was wet and cloudy, the views out over the hills were breath-taking. We had a lovely evening chatting to Erica and Yoshi (apologies if I misremembered the names!) while they cooked us a lovely dinner. I hope we didn't distract them from their working shift but they provided great conversation and great company! As well as the food we loved the plum wine and sake tasting, There was also some lovely gifts to purchase for taking back home with us. 10/10 - by far our favourite place we stayed during our trip to Japan

DenmarkA truly amazing place, which could easily be called an inn or B&B because the word hostel does not suffice. They provide a high level of service (for example the pick-up service and delicious pre-ordered food) and the view from the terrace is gorgeous at sunset. The hosts are very friendly and Erika was very helpful and kind (also with giving us a sake tasting). You simply must try their homemade plum wine! ❤️ … We will never forget our stay with you 🤗
