Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe host Arthur was outstanding, kind and helpful and very interesting with his love of jazz. The hotel was wonderfully modernised while retaining it’s ancient charm. The location was superb: a short walk from the station to the funicular, up to the old town, turn right and you’re there. The restaurant was the best in Cetaldo.

United KingdomOnly issue was arriving by car at night & our sat nav struggled to find the hotel which is in a restricted traffic zone. We just wanted to drop off our bags & then park in the car park nearby. Maybe some hints from the hotel for customers arriving by car would be helpful. Otherwise we really enjoyed our stay.
Beautiful building right next to the furnicular stop. Lovely courtyard area for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We had dinner & food & service were really good. Great view from terrace.

United StatesThe hotel has a fantastic location as part of a walled village at the top of a hill. The views from our room and from the patio where we had dinner and breakfast had exceptional views. Dinner at the hotel was delicious and reasonably priced. Our room was large, quiet and thoroughly modern. Staff was friendly and the manager was helpful and informative.

ItalyNothing for us. The rooms are on the first floor with no lift so might be a problem for some people.
Amazing location in the heart of Certaldo alta, next to the funicular. Stunning bluilding, quod with amazing view, restaurant with delicious food and terrace view. Spacious and clean room and bathroom. Alfred was a lovely host. Very helpful to rearrange the dates of our stay due to travel problems we had, and shared tips on the town and countryside walk. We had an amazing and relaxing time!

KuwaitI had to be there during the low season so most of the restaurants and cafes in the village were closed unfortunately!
The hotel is historic but the rooms and bathrooms are renovated to high standards of comfort and were very clean. The hotel has the best terrace location to watch the sunset, and is right next to the funicular. Staff were super friendly and kind

CanadaWe happened to be there during the heat wave, as with all older hotels the AC had troubles keeping up but it was ok once we settled in, Alfred ( manager ) helped us out by relocating us to a room with a newer AC unit.
WE loved the location, being in the old town was a treat for us.

SwitzerlandThe accommodation in the bathroom might need a little refresh and the bed was a bit hard, but we received cushions to soften it.
Hotel il Castello is welcoming and decorated with style. Friendly personal, jazzy atmosphere, medieval Italian style. Great views on the valley from the bedroom window, up to San Gimignano. Breakfast is complete and cappuccino's perfect. There is a very romantic terasse with great views, where diner is served. 👍

CanadaThe only improvement I can suggest is to offer the allergy codes/numbers in multiple languages at breakfast.
I liked the typical Italian breakfast served at the hotel and how guests were offered choices for a variety of healthy options. The selection would suit people with different food preferences and people with allergies (see below). The quality of the food was excellent. I liked that the hotel owner, Alfred, was also our host - always around and available when I had a question, in a helpful, non-obtrusive way. Alfred's music always made me smile! The staff could not have been better - from housekeeping to kitchen and breakfast room, bar and fine dining - they seemed to really care about this special place. I loved the outdoor terraces and the expansive views of Toscana with the towers of San Gimignano off in the distance. I will always remember the evenings ... when leaving our room, we were met with the most amazing aromas from the kitchen - the fragrance of herbs in the pot enticed us down the stairs like an sensory invitation to explore aperitivo and eventually dinner. The experience was magical - these things just do not happen at home! One of our favourite memories is of the wild tortoises who are indigenous to the area. They find their own spaces to live with the hotel (outside) and drop by once a while when the sun is just right. The eldest fellow is around 90 years old and he is quite a character. These tortoises have lived in this place longer than almost any other living guests. I suppose they have adapted to share this incredible place with the rest of us.
