Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomAs mentioned, the hotel is slightly out of town on a hill. It's ok to walk down, but a steeper climb to come back. I would recommend using the hotel shuttle bus and/or local taxi
This is a gem of a hotel. Located slightly out of town, the views from our sea facing room were spectacular. The rooms are comfortable, clean and a good size. Staff are lovely and looked after us well. I would be happy to visit again.

We attended a wedding there and what can I say, the venue was so beautiful, fantastic views and lots of outdoor space. The food was great with a vast selection of breakfast and lunch choices. The staff was so helpful especially the tall waiter ( I didn't get his name!) who looked after us so well! Very comfortable beds, spoessly clean, and a lift was available. It's a steep walk back from the town but worth it for the views! They also provide a shuttle every 30 minutes. We loved everything about our stay!

Lovely breakfast - everything that you could want; egg and bacon, fresh fruit of many varieties, fresh pastries etc Lovely pool - but even better beaches. No need for a car, as the location is perfect walking distance to everything. Very, very friendly and helpful staff. My thanks to Francesco, Domenico (?)(helping me with the bus!), Antonio (forevever ferrying me around!) and all the lovely, lovely staff!

United KingdomA "do not disturb/please clean room" card would have been helpful both to us and to the cleaners. Some form of additional seating in the room other than the single upright dining type chair would have been nice. although room size might prevent it. Couldn't find any English TV channels, (maybe a bonus point though!). The walk back from town/seafront which we did a few times because it was outside shuttlebus scheduled times. The bus schedule seemed to be run for the drivers convenience rather than the hotel guests. It finished at 7 pm which was a deterrent to eating in the town. (A cynic might say this was to force guests to use the hotel restaurant). Pool sun loungers and umbrellas were a bit "tired" and being a back sufferer I found them most uncomfortable. A few upright chairs would have been nice.. The pool didn't seem to have any depth markers and it catches you out the first time when you find the pool deepens quite suddenly halfway along! Had to ask too often for breakfast coffee jug to be filled.
Breakfast selection was OK. Cereals, bacon, scrambled eggs and loads of cakes?? etc. Good coffee, (when it was available!). Lunch and dinner restaurant menu and food quality was first class. Loved the view from the sea facing balcony. Air con was very efficient and automatically controlled room temperature. Nice powerful shower. Bar staff very friendly and efficient but had to use call bell to get served. The shuttlebus was useful but almost essential given the long steep incline back from the seafront. Pool area management was OK, making sure people didn't "hog" the sun loungers.

BelgiumHotel is getting outdated, bathrooms small and probably 30 years old looking at the style. Could imagine hotel would be noisy when fully booked in high season, but very quiet with just a few guests at the end of season. Pool was great but needs some work done to keep it up to standard.
Wonderfull setting with a magnificent seaview. Good breakfast as well as dinner, setting on the terrace is magnificent, large pool which was great to swim. A jewel in Castellabate.

Irelandthere was a slight miscommunication when I was checking out with regards to an extra charge although we took a non sea view room to gain an extra bed for a child, for the 4 nights we were charged €200 extra and this was not communicated clearly to us when we were offered the room. the lady that showed us to the new room told me there was no extra charge at all so that was slightly disappointing, apart from that our stay was perfect.
the property is situated on a hill above the town. it is a fair walk uphill so we used the complimentary shuttle bus to bring us back up the hill during the day, we had to get taxis at night as the shuttle finishes at 7pm. the staff are extremely friendly especially the waiter at breakfast, a tall man with glasses. he couldn’t do enough for us, he was so attentive and kind.

IrelandThe hotel is situated on a height, halfway up the side of a mountain, a good distance away from the centre. One really needs a car as the hill is so steep up to it. We had dinner there one night and the food was very disappointing. There was a fault in the air conditioning in our room and water leaked down the wall. When we reported it to reception it was fixed the next day.
Good size room but no views. A good powerful shower. The dining room and garden were really nice, with great views down to the sea. The waiter in the dining room was very nice, friendly and looked after us very well.

United KingdomAlthough the location is perfect for the views, it is a little above the town & therefore walking to the beach (or more importantly back from it) would not be easy for some. I believe they offer a shuttle bus service during the day though and there are likely taxis available. One tiny bit of feedback for the hotel is there was a charge for 'pool service' on the bill. Only 3 euros but this wasn't explained at check in and I wasn't sure what it was, I can only assume it was for towels. Not unreasonable so I didn't query it, it just would have been good service to let us know in advance.
This is a very nice hotel. It looks recently built or refurbished, everything is very clean and fresh. The pool is lovely with comfy loungers and umbrellas. The staff were all very friendly. Not sure if it is family run, but it seemed to be a small number of staff who were all very attentive and helpful. The hotel's best feature is its amazing views, from our room and the terrace it is the perfect place to enjoy some peaceful moments looking out to sea and to watch the sunset. We actually drove further up the hill to watch the sunset and there are some good spots to do so, but the terrace would be just as good if you don't have a car. We only stayed one night but had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and both were very good.

United KingdomThe full summer season runs from June through August. Our visit was in Mid May. The pool and gardens had not been tended over the winter. The pool was empty and surroundings were litter strewn. Consequently the potential for outside relaxation was lost. The kitchen was not open so , other than breakfast there was no opportunity to snack. There was no kitchen service. No bar service in the evening. Breakfast was bountiful but lacked variety and finesse. Lack of service and facilities meant that we were enjoying bed and breakfast at hotel rates.
Beautiful setting overlooking the sea and the picturesque village of S. Castellabate. Superb tiled interiors. Pleasant and hard working skeleton staff. Rooms were nicely appointed and cleaned daily.
