Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaBreakfast was included but it was poor. Microwave porridge, a slice of bread with butter and jam, a slice of cheese, an apple and a croissant, handed to you on a tray when you walk in. The hotel was full and the breakfast room was very busy - not really big enough for everyone to show up at once and share one toaster. The food was mostly wasted because their choices weren't what I wanted so most of it got tossed out. Definite scope to improve this aspect.
The location is good - at the end of the road in Klauster. Very easy to find. The room we had was up a couple of flights of steps and the check-in guy carried all our luggage up to the room for us - very helpful. The room was clean and tidy. Close to restaurants and a grocery store. Had coffee and tea in the room but no kettle. Tap water was extremely hot.

GermanyBed linen looked used or maybe simply very old, no milk for coffee or any little teaspoons during breakfast. Everything very minimal. At the same time, this was our most expensive stay in Iceland out of 5 accommodations.
Horses were very friendly

United StatesThe first impression was not as good as it could have been. This is a good example of “don’t judge a book by its cover”!
Rooms were very clean and tidy. People were great especially the lady at the front desk. Shower was nice. The included breakfast buffet was yummy. We ate dinner in the restaurant and it was very tasty as well! I loved the walking paths to explore and the mountain backdrop.

Hong KongWe need to climb with luggage one floor up.
The shower cubicle was clean and good because it would not make floor outside wet. The breakfast was set instead of buffet but the portion was big enough. The location was convenient too.

AustraliaVery basic ameneties. Shower didn’t work on the morning of our departure. Only had cold water, no hot water. No fridge in the room so couldn’t store any milk for tea. We stayed 2nights and were in a cabin block of 4 rooms and it seemed a bit odd that of all the available rooms across the property, on the first night they put people in the two rooms right next to us. The walls were very thin.
Location was great, nice and quiet village. Room stayed warm at night. Breakfast included was good for travellers, plenty to eat!

CanadaRoom (economy double) was small. Blackout curtains were not very effective. Our room and bathroom looked worn.
Location was by a river and a waterfall in a farm like setting. Parking was good. Beds were comfortable. Breakfast was included but fair only.

PolandI know Iceland is expensive for tourists, but this was the most expensive place we were staying at with the quality of the place actually lower than all the other places. Breakfast was filling up, but it was not really a buffet which I would expect, but a set of food on the plate (instant oatmeal cup, some bread, butter, cheese, some fruit).
Location was perfectly on our way. Room was pretty big.

SpainOur quadruple room was the most expensive of our 10 days trip and the most tiny. To a level there was no space where to leave out luggage. Breakfast you can really see the place is just about money. You can't choose anything, and what you get is very basic and cheap products. When you ask for changes in their "Breakfast Tray" they get quite funny.
The location was perfect, close to some public hot tubs, great to relax after the day.

SpainQuite expensive for the room option we had, but there was very limited choice in the area that provided ensuite bathrooms.
Easily reached from the ring road. Room although quite small had everything we needed including ensuite bathroom and there were tea making facilities in the shared vestibule area right outside the room. Breakfast was included, served on a plate with no choice , but was adequate and filling, however everyone staying there obviously had same idea as us and wanted to get out on the road early so it was very busy and a bit chaotic in there.

CanadaProbably the most expensive guesthouse we used during our travels, which only benefits from the fact that there is a waterfall behind the house. Breakfast below average, you get a plate with a slice of cheese and ham, a little butter and marmalade, an apple and a pastry and you have no choice
