The hot water took ages and ages to come through, and then it was just warm.

Great location if visiting Grimsey Island as only 10 minutes from the Dalvik ferry.

We stayed for one night at Húsabakki as we wanted to check out Svarfaðardalur valley and Friðland Svarfdæla - the Nature Reserve of Svarfaðardalur, which is right outside the guesthouse Húsabakki. New proprietors have taken over the business and were just opening the guesthouse and renovating it when we booked the room. As they had just opened we were the only guests in the whole guesthouse. We got a room with 2 beds, but I asked for an upgrade to a bigger room with a twin bed and the proprietors were glad to help. The proprietors were very lovely and helpful and invited us to the breakfast area on the ground floor where we could prepare our dinner. And they invited us for a chat and breakfast the morning after. I visited the Nature Reserve (photos added) and it was heavenly. The summer nights in Iceland are bright and I was alone in nature with only the birds and horses, I did not want to go to sleep that night :) The proprietors pointed out to us a warm footbath in the mountain above Húsabakki (on the other side of the road) and we hiked up to it the following day. The view from there is amazing. We also visited the beautiful churches in the valley (photos added). We had an exceptional stay in this historic valley :)

There was only one toilet upstairs. The price was quite high too, but the stay is worth the price.

We had a real pleasant stay at Húsavakki Guesthouse. The way there was very nice, the road was paved and the view was spectacular. The guesthouse is located in a beautiful mountainous valley. Nearby the guesthouse you can find the oldest swimming pool in Iceland. We were warmly welcomed when we arrived. The guesthouse itself is very well facilitated. The beds are very comfortable (boxsprings), and the kitchen contains everything you need. The showers were great as well, with nice warm water. A real hidden gem!

Never got in contact with the staff. Tried to call several times, no one answered. Had to just choose a room for my self. After I installed myself in the room, I figured there was no lock in the room. Under the bed it was extremely dirty, and I felt bad being in this housing. I’m never coming back.

This isn’t really a criticism but because the rooms do not include closets or dressers it would be helpful to have more hooks on the walls so we could hang things. This is something we noticed in all the guest houses we stayed in in Iceland - no closets or drawers in the room but only one to two hooks to compensate, even if there is wall space.

Lovely location in the country close to Dalvik; scrupulously clean room and shared facilities, comfortable beds, complete kitchen including dishwasher(!), wonderful, friendly owner who was always available to answer questions or suggest things to do. Our room had a beautiful view of the mountains and farmland. insulation was sufficient that the room was very quiet even though the place was full. good blackout curtains
