Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IcelandAll good ;) but the town is missing a café that opens early for breakfast guests.
Very friendly and helpful host, good value for money. Quiet at night, enough shared bathroom facilities, clean. Nice atmosphere in this old house, felt a bit like a museum!

ItalyThe host is very sweet and welcoming. The house is in a great location, just a five-minute walk to the whale watching center. The decor has a charming, vintage feel, and the kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need. We loved the café on the corner, where the fresh fish soup and bread were some of the best we've ever had. Next door is a century-old cinema with a vintage projector. Everything was wonderful. Highly recommend!

United StatesWe loved our 2 nights here! Bjarni is a fantastic host, and we really enjoyed the fish soup and homemade beer bread (and dessert) at his cafe down the street. The shared areas were kept very clean, and the shower had great water pressure. The kitchen area was well-equipped, spacious, and had several tables and places to sit. The hostel has lots of antique furnishings that added to the warmth of the place. Our room was spacious and had a desk and a large, beautiful hutch of sorts. The beds were very comfortable. Dalvik is a small town, so you don't have to walk very far to get to the cafe, library, (where my dad bought a used book), grocery store, etc. The swimming pool was wonderful, too! We spent one day taking the ferry to and from Grimsey, and we only had to walk across the street and down the stairs by the restaurant to get to the ferry. Thank you for a great stay and all of your help and communication prior to our arrival! I would love to return!

United KingdomLeaving!
Bjarni was an excellent host. He went out of his way to help and made us feel very welcome and this definitely added an extra element to our trip. We were in Dalvik to ski tour and the hostel was perfectly situated for that purpose. It was within walking distance from the supermarket and the excellent Cafe Gisli. The other people in the hostel were also great and we got to know them all quite well during the week. Dalvik is just beautiful and getting up in the morning and going into the kitchen and being greeted with an incredible view across the Fjord was something else! We will definitely be back.

IcelandNot to complain, as there are full time residents, the bigger communal kitchen doesn’t fit, as residents are cooking full on meals, using multiple cooking and prep surfaces, so you really left confused as can I use this pan? The coffee? The plates?
When you step in it is like back 50years, with decor, actual beds, bed setups, kitchen, you name it, even the keys. Although not a retro fan, this is not retro. I stayed here as I needed a place to sleep before catching the ferry to Grimsey Island. I got a room upgrade I think, lol. Was contacted hours before expected arrival, just to clear arrival procedures. I would recommend to other travellers, it’s clean, good water pressure, Ease of access, no pets, and no issues.

CanadaThe walls are paper thin, so if many people are opening/closing doors in the night you will hear them. This is the only thing I didn't like.
The staff and owner were so lovely. The kitchen upstairs is fully stocked and there is a nice seating area to have your meal. The showers seem quite new and have good water pressure. The rooms are cute and cozy. Very convenient location to catch the ferry to Grimsey.

Love the location. The owner is super pleasant to talk to. It comes with a nice kitchen and surprisingly spacious bathrooms. He also owns the best bakery shop in town with a fun theatre. I ate the best cheesecake ever there.
