Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWe thought the breakfast would be included, as the description on Booking.com said 22 Hill offered a rich breakfast buffet. Also some reviews mentioned a free breakfast. But our code did not work. We called on hotel lobby phone, and were told breakfast was not included. Also, continuing from above - there was no door lock inside the room. We found ourselves and other arriving guests repeating the code verbally to use it. This makes the room less secure.
We had a slightly bigger room than in the other hotel where we stayed. We liked that we could open a window for fresh air. But dome light in bedroom was very dim, and occasionally went off unexpectedly. Also, the shower was very small, awkward, and slippery. My husband would not have fit! It wasn't too bad using the code at the front door. But to get to our room, we had to get on our knees to press the button on the door. Then press the 5 to get all the keys to display - so we could enter our code. I did appreciate your email replies to my questions/comments - takk.

AustraliaLocation in an industrial area and next door to a building site. Not sure I liked the self check in system. No people to meet you or assist with information. Not even a glass available in the room. No tea and coffee making available either. One of our rooms had poor lighting.
Breakfast was good. A lift to assist with luggage a welcomed addition. The restaurant was welcomed when we arrived in the cold and damp weather. Heating worked well and beds were comfortable.

AustraliaDoor access code did not work at front door - it was lucky I was with a group of friends whose codes did work. We had to request check in codes for at least three of our rooms, despite being told they would be provided 24 hours prior. Two of our rooms were changed with no notice, so the access codes did not work anyway - this caused delays and unnecessary discomfort. I have stayed here previously with no issues, but the new management is not as good as before, and messages are abrupt or not answered. They should put staff back into reception, and provide service to their guests.
Room was clean and comfortable, hotel is easy walking distance to supermarkets and downtown

United StatesThere’s no staff. This is a self check in hotel. But it’s not only self check in, there is absolutely no one working there except for the cleaning staff if you need something or if there’s an emergency, no one is there to help. In fact, I don’t think it’s safe because if there’s a fire or somebody has a health emergency, it would be a total disaster. I don’t know if this is even legal! How can you have a hotel full of people with no one on duty to take care of things? It’s a venture capital concept which is unsafe and should not exist. For example, some of the lights in both of the rooms that we had would dim up and down constantly. We couldn’t control the lights at all. There are so many light switches you can’t figure out which lights are controlled by which switches in the room. eventually, my wife figured out how to get the lights to dim but not flicker up and down so we went to sleep with the lights dimmed. When we called the customer service hotline, somebody in another country answered the phone and said he would contact the staff, but there is no staff on site. no one ever called us because there is no staff. Or if there is, they are not paying much attention to the customers.
It was clean and there was a good breakfast if it was included in the room rate. The breakfast was quite expensive if it was not included, but all food is expensive in Iceland so that’s not a surprise. Location was good and the room was comfortable.

United StatesThe hotel was undergoing remodeling construction in the lobby so we sometimes had to work our way around roped off sections. It should be nice when completed though.
The room was much nicer than expected given the prices we were paying for other hotels. Very clean and comfortable. Also a very nice continental breakfast.

United StatesThe hotel is undergoing renovations. Meanwhile the lobby and elevator carpets are soiled. Our mattresses definitely need replacing. The breakfast buffet was adequate but could use pastries, perhaps a waffle iron, and oatmeal. This was my first experience with a self checkin hotel and although things worked out I would prefer staff on site.
Room was good size as was bathroom. Breakfast staff was excellent and the restaurant dining was outstanding. Whenever I had an issue the staff was quick to respond. Having a local phone available in the lobby with auto taxi dial was very handy. The hotel is convenient to grocery stores, pharmacy, and stores.
