Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IrelandOverall no complaints. In the morning sometimes a bit of noise with people carrying bags and closing doors (as they check out). No control over heating in bedroom but temperature was too bad.
Nice atmosphere hostel with cosy twin rooms for those looking for a quieter stay. Rooms were comfy, nicely decorated and bright. Great to have the private bathroom too. All very clean. The communal kitchen was very handy too. Our room was above the bar and still quiet. Breakfast was of higher standard from what we expected from a hostel: on the first day it was great to hv soy yogurts (though they were gone on the second day), the selection of bagels and the gluten free options.

United KingdomThe location, exotic themes, access to the kitchen, property and room security, walking distance to a deserted beach and on Thursday nights, the bar is heaving! The music is amazing! Pool table and bar snacks, great beer and Guinness.

United KingdomIt was a good hostel. Comfy beds and the added bonus of having a bar downstairs was brilliant after a long day of driving. There were things to do locally and the beach was only around 15 mins away (by car). I loved the code lock to get into the bedroom and bathroom as it meant I don’t have to carry or remember a key (dangerous if you’ve had a few too many in the bar though! 😁) At breakfast there was a good range of things to have. The staff were welcoming.

United StatesWish the rooms were a bit warmer.
great location for our needs to travel and see this part of Ireland. I think there were only 6 rooms. Extremely happy with the staff especially Zach and Rory, who were very helpful in getting us settled. Breakfast was yummy and the bar was cozy with good pints. One night local musicians played Irish music for a few hours. I would stay there again.

MaltaThe location was close enough to take a good walk to the nearby beaches. Even though the nearest bus stop was a long walk away, the bus still stop for you a 5 minute walk away from the hostel which was advised from the staff.

IrelandThe bathroom floor could have been cleaner but it was very nice altogether.
The Valley House has an amazing setting, although it is a hostel, it has a comfy Irish house feel to it. Vintage decorations with a modern twist was unique to my opinion. Breakfat was very nice, they served everything we needed.

IrelandThe kitchen is very small and only 1, or maybe 2 people can cook at a time. The utensils and crockey are limited and indoor seating is limited. There's not much of a communal area to sit and chat to others unless you go to the pub or sit outside. The bathroom in the room is clearly very old and could do with a touch up.
The hostel has a pub attached which often has a trad session so is good craic. Breakfast in the morning had lots of good options.

IrelandIt’s a big old house so decor is only ok, large fire safety lights on ceiling are really bright at night. The restaurant and bar are the draw so on a busy night it can be very noisy. I tired to book restaurant but it was booked out maybe a per book warning.
Great size room, it’s a great spot in Achill. To be able to come and go freely was great. I did love the kitchen that we could all access. It’s a hostel not really family place. the fairy trail we missed as it was closed and I was horrified they wanted to charge me to walk around a weed infested yard/forest area. My kids were burnt by nettles, no big deal but I was paying for this!

Breakfast was ok,not very exciting but adequate. There could have been more yogurt anf fresh milk. The facilities were good. It was good they did meals at night.

SwedenThe bed in the dorm was too soft for me (personal preference). Also the door to the room was unfortunately impossible to close quietly - which is needed when you share a room with other fellow travelers and need to leave early in the morning.
I really liked the location, the old building and the surroundings. The bar with traditional Irish music (two nights a week) was grand!
