Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe only improvement I would suggest is a change in the way the continental breakfast is served. We would rather have items set out on covered platters (covered being optional) on a serving table rather than having to dig around and pull packages out of a refrigerator.
Great place to stay in Galway. Gracious host.

United StatesIt was all good!
I loved this place! The staff were super friendly. It's quiet and the bathroom was gorgeous! I know, a funny thing to say but after you've been to numerous other places it's the little things that stand out. Off-street parking was nice, too. In the mornings you can meander down to the large dining room and make yourself breakfast. I was alone both mornings in there and was able to journal while eating. I'd definitely stay here again! And if you go for a walk there's a darling little kitty who will greet you just before you make the left to exit the entrance to the main road. She's on the right. Pet her and tell her I said hi :)

United KingdomNo kettle in the room but you could make a cuppa in the sitting room anytime you like.
Very nice stay in Galway city, this place is tucked away in a quiet area with good secure parking for bikes and cars but easy walking into the city centre and Salthill promenade. Gary and Mary were lovely hosts, bed was very comfortable. Easy self serve breakfast with good choices

Mary made check-in a breeze and was extremely helpful in making us comfortable. Everytime we saw Mary or her husband they were very very nice and had great conversation with us and made us just so happy to be there! In addition to all of that, they put on a great continental breakfast

CanadaLocation not terribly convenient, but certainly not far from downtown. Parking is a little tight, as in a residential area.
The house is lovely - clean and comfortable. The breakfast was adequate - self serve continental, with many choices. The best part was the host, Mary. She was welcoming, charming and quite entertaining.

IrelandBreakfast was a little uninspiring - a help yourself continetal breakfast. Plenty of choice but some basic presentation would have made a difference.
This was a spacious, simple, clean and super comfortable room in a lovely leafy estate. Its a pleasant 20 mins walk into Shop Street and the heart of the city. Perfect for a night or two stopover.

United StatesLocated in a nicer older neighborhood so we ended up walking to the city center. The Bus was available but we didn’t mind the 25 min walk. We didn’t mind at all but some might not prefer this.
The hosts were very kind. They had a continental breakfast available all day and always made sure we had everything we needed. They also cleaned our rooms every morning while we were out which I did not expect. A lovely couple that treats you like their own and wants to make sure you are content. Definitely would stay again.

United KingdomWe stayed in a little guesthouse separated from the main house which was very nice and comfortable - we had our own space and privacy. There was a complimentary continental breakfast in the main house which was lovely, we were not expecting that. The house is located in a quiet and very green neighbourhood only a short walk away from Galway centre, we loved that it's away from the bustling city centre. The host was very welcoming and overall we loved the experience!

United StatesIvy House is absolutely amazing! After a horrible experience at a hotel in Belfast, arriving at Ivy House, and Gary and Mary’s hospitality felt like a true dream. They were so kind and accommodating, and showed true care towards their tenants and property. The facilities were well maintained and I had the best night sleep of my whole trip thus far. The rooms were spacious, the showers had plenty of hot water and pressure, and the beds were well appointed. The breakfast in the morning was light but enough to get you off right for the day. Overall, I will be recommending Ivy House to everyone I can, and I can’t be more appreciative of Mary and Gary - who truly treated me like family while I was there.
