Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe little bar fridges could do with an upgrade sometime soon. It seems that the slightly larger models keep the cold in a lot better, and probably save on power as well. Not a dealbreaker, just a suggestion.
I returned to Alam Jiwa after many years away and I am so glad I did. The location is so convenient. The area is so peaceful but just a short walk alongside the Monkey Forest and you are in the hustle and bustle of Ubud. There is also a shuttle available if you don't want to walk. The rooms are well appointed and are kept spotless. The beds are comfortable, as are the many chairs and day beds on offer in the room and on the balcony. The bathrooms are a highlight. Very large and beautiful. Even the provided toiletries are of a high quality. The staff are super friendly and go out of their way to help make your stay a great experience. The pool is well maintained and there is plenty of room to relax poolside for a lazy day. There are many wonderful restaurants very close to Alam Jiwa. No need to go to Ubud unless you really want to. I will be back to Alam Jiwa as soon as possible.

United KingdomIt’s a bit outdated in the rooms - but spotlessly clean and comfortable.
We loved the beautiful and quiet location not quite in central Ubud but within walking distance.

CanadaWe expected this so not a negative for us! But the bathroom is outdoors so if you are scared of the occasional bug or lizard a fair warning. Lizards are good luck though :)
The staff were amazing and so kind. They went above and beyond during our stay. We felt we were in true paradise here! Breakfast was great and loved daily tea by the pool. Great location as well. Our best stay in all of Bali and highly recommend this place!

New ZealandNothing! Could have stayed forever.
This place absolutely blew us away. It was like staying in a medieval castle in the middle of a botanical garden. Stunningly beautiful, quiet and peaceful, with the most amazing hospitable staff. They have a free shuttle to and from Ubud and are happy to arrange anything else you need. There are so few rooms that it feels like you are the only ones in residence most of the time. Breakfast and any order in food is very good quality and can be enjoyed on the terrace or in your room.

AustraliaThe traffic between main shops/ palace area etc in Ubud is very heavy and slow. It took us nearly an hour to transfer from our previous accommodation in Bisma St. That didn’t worry us as we had already spent a few days in the main town area, and really enjoyed the change of pace at Alum Jiwa.
Absolutely beautiful traditional Balinese older style hotel. The rooms are palatial. Delightful pool and established garden. The staff are wonderful. The outlook across the rice paddy and a natural creek bed was beautiful to wake up to. The breakfast served to our room was great and the artistic arrangement of the fruit was a visual delight…. As was the pool are and walking along the path to the rooms . The local streets were quiet, and lined with frangipanni trees. We had an excellent home cooked meal in a family compound across the road from Alum Jiwa.

- the hotel is so beautiful. The style of the buildings is traditional and they surrounded by jungle and lovely gardens. From the rooms you get a wonderful view on the rice fields - the staff is very friendly and helpful - the location is great: just behind the monkey forest in a quite and beautiful road with nice warungs, spas and restaurant but still enough far from the caos of the Main Streets of Ubud.

The hotel staff were extremely attentive and helpful, the premises and rooms were beautiful and clean and the location of the hotel is ideal. It’s situated close to a good selection of restaurants and cafes and is located 20 minutes away on foot from the town centre (and much faster by motorbike).

United KingdomBeautiful traditional Balinese resort that has been developed with love and care. Lovely pool area and gorgeous gardens. A relaxing place of tranquility away from the busyness of Ubud. Some good restaurants nearby. One day we saw lots of monkeys outside our window. Perfect place to stay if visiting Ubud.

AustraliaSoft furnishings need cleaning, as did some areas of our room. Kitchen utensils such as a knife to cut fruit are available on request. The kitchen in our villa had very old appliances and no utensils.
We loved the spacious rooms, beautiful gardens and pool setting, Balinese furniture and buildings. Service was friendly and punctual. Breakfast is generous, with choice of service near the pool or in your room /balcony. Shuttle to the centre is available and free. View from our terrace over the rural landscape. Village location, though with a good choice of restaurants and cafes locally. Overall, a very pleasant stay in a quiet and relaxed environment.

United KingdomNothing. Be aware that it's in a quiet location so you need to embrace the scooter culture or suffer at the mercy of the insane local traffic in high season

United StatesAt our villa, we have an outdoor shower and bathroom. While it's unique and refreshing, I don't find it comforting. Especially the property is near Monkery forest - a monkey sanctuary. Also various wild bugs/animals can easily enter the bathroom. It would be much more comforting if they put some kind of net/bar to cover the open area.
We love everything about this resort. My husband said it feels like a giant spa. The facilities is gorgeous, the room is spacious and clean. The staff are wonderfully helpful, courteous and friendly. They have a lovely pool but we didn't get a chance to use it. Breakfast is great! They have the most delicious Nasi Goreng!

New ZealandMinor points. Felt that the quality of towels didn’t match the standard of the accommodation but appreciated plentiful supply. Pool temperature was refreshing…bracing almost, but pool area magic setting.
Everything other reviewers expressed, we agree with. Loved the peaceful garden setting, fabulous staff, spacious rooms, relaxing pool area, proximity to great eating places as well as outstanding breakfasts at Alam Jiwa. Bonus was afternoon tea offered by the pool. What may not have been noted is how beautiful the little village is, and a delight to walk along. We loved our stay.

New ZealandOur only issue is very small but will mention it that the water pressure in the shower was not always very strong. There were areas of the bathroom that needed a little bit more attention to cleanliness but very minor.
The property was an oasis of serenity. The staff were exceptional. The breakfast was delicious. We had a room with a view of the Rice field which was perfect and lovely to watch the Farmers going about their daily routine. It was very accessible to the Ubud city but also very close by to excellent restaurants and cafes. We spoke to other well travelled guests who now return to this hotel every year as I hope we will.
