Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

MalaysiaKitchen menu was a bit touristy, I would have liked more local choices. Quite pricey laundry and sadly, didn't dry in time for us (although some pieces of my own washing dried with the fan in my room).
Right in Lanquin town. All members of staff were great and hospitable. Simple room with basic amenities. It was nice to have a local experience.

ItalyDavid and Olga were the kindest hosts. The house was cosy and comfortable, and the room was clean. There is a small bar and Olga will prepare very good food for you. We were always advised and helped with any question we had. Thank you!

GermanyWe had a wonderful time at Casa Mary! If you want a real Guatemalan experience - this is the place to be. The casa is family-run and has everything you need. Great fresh food cooked for you, nice surroundings with relaxing chairs and great views. You can book your transport there and they also do great tours. We went on an English guided tour of Semuc Champay with David and it was the best. We also went with him to a cave with lots of fun adventures and waterfalls. We can't recommend this place enough and really enjoyed our time there with the family and everything. Definitely recommended!

United StatesThe food was incredible. Olga runs the kitchen and it’s the finest food you can get in Lanquín. One night we decided to go to the best rated restaurant and it was awful. We had to wait 90 minutes for mediocre, small portions and overpriced food. After we got home we had Olga make us some food for 1/3 the price, 1/8 the wait and four times as good. We did the semuc tour with David and IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST DAYS OF MY LIFE. Words cannot describe. The rooms were comfortable and simple, and it was like being part of a family. Could not ask for a better stay. Olga did our laundry. They also had facilities for you to wash your own.

AustraliaIt was quite hot but that can’t be helped. There are fans in the rooms.
The reviews don’t lie: David is a legend! Truly had the best day being guided around Semuc Champey by David who grew up exploring the area and knows the best spots to show you. The in-house tienda, shuttle booking and affordable restaurant made our stay so easy and relaxing. So happy to stay with this lovely family!

CanadaIm so so glad I booked this accommodation! I can’t thank Mary, Louis (Sr & Jr), David and Olga enough. They went above and beyond with everything and made me feel like family! There’s a wonderful restaurant on the property (Olga you are an amazing cook!) and a great little tienda where you can get the essentials. The room was great (the bed was super comfortable) and even without AC the fan kept you cool during the hot Lanquin nights. A must do is the tour to Semuc with David! David is the kindest soul and is extremely passionate about what he does. You made my Semuc experience unforgettable and by the end of the day we became the best of friends. Thank you all again!

The host family are fantastic. Super friendly and welcoming. Davide the son runs fantastic tours of the caves and Semuc Champey. The bedrooms and shared bathrooms were nice and clean. No kitchen but there is an onsite restaurant serving reasonably priced tasty food (good portions). Great value for money.

GermanyFamily owned home stay. David was the greatest tour guide for Semuc Champey and the on site restaurant was very convenient. They also pick you up with their own tuktuk from the bus stop in Lanquin. Plus check in early was possible and the WiFi was very good.

Great little place with friendly family. Bit hard to find so a few better instructions on how to get there would help others. The tour to Semuc Champey was fantastic with David ...definitely suggest doing it.

United StatesI felt like the information about the tuk tuk that was supposed to be waiting for me from the bus station could have been communicated better beforehand. I ended up getting in a tuk tuk with two guys who told me to go with them to Casa Mary and then asked for payment and turns out it was a scam but I had no idea and paid them. Maria said their tuk tuk says Casa Mary on it and David was waiting for me for a couple of hours but by the time my shuttle arrived he wasn’t there, I was supposed to wait for him. But it was a minor thing overall, loved my stay at Casa Mary!
The location in Lanquin, the convenience of having the restaurant open from 7am-9pm with really good food at very affordable prices (thank you Olga!), Maria’s recommendations (go see the Cuevas de grutas!), very comfortable bed and room, hot water in the shower (plus another shower with cold water which was great after I got sunburned at semuc), the view from the restaurant of the mountains and greenery. They made sure to have breakfast ready for me the day I left early at exactly 7am which was so kind. I didn’t get to go on the tour with David but heard great things about it. I loved the sounds of roosters and birds in the morning but do bring ear plugs because there’s no sound proofing.
