Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThe tasteful furnishing and decoration of the hotel and the always friendly and attentive staff create an cozy and calm athmosphere that helps to get away from everyday life. The breakfast (a big plus: being served, no buffet) and the high-level gourmet menues in the evening made our stay perfect.

United KingdomKey fobs could be added to the key chains so that guests can enter and exit the property without having to ring the doorbell every time.
Such a calming atmosphere, with sounds of trickling water, birds and calming music, the property is a historical landmark and has been renovated with such attention to detail. The staff was accommodating and excellently behaved. The cats that call Imaret home are an attraction as well. In the evening the property is light with candles and the trees are decorated with fairy lights. It is well situated to explore the city of Kavala both downtown and the old town quarter. And the food was absolutely exceptional. Even the lowest room category can be considered a suite and is keeping with the atmosphere of the historic hotel.

United KingdomIf you are fussy about pillows, as I am, you need to be aware that these are duck feather and extremely soft- not to everyone's taste. The swimming pool is very pleasant but it is only waist deep. If you want to have the Hamam or Spa service, you need to book before you arrive. We failed to do so and therefore missed out. You might have to park some way from the hotel. The above are not complaints but are tips for future guests. In our 3 night stay we were totally unable to find the control for the ceiling fan anywhere (and kept forgetting to ask) so we settled for the A/C which was noisy. Given the cost, it would have been appropriate, I would think, to provide the room with normal drinking water daily without extra charge. One definite complaint relates to the Wine list. The wines are largely non-Greek and hugely expensive. Greece has some truly excellent and interesting wines which should not be ignored. There is an argument that if you stay in a place like this, you need to be someone who doesn't care about money. But EUR18 for just a glass of Chianti is a bit steep by any standards!
The level of service was excellent and all the staff were extremely pleasant, professional and competent. The architectural surroundings were as gorgeous as we expected, and the whole ambiance of the place very relaxing and peaceful. It's an oasis of civilization and serenity. The room and bathroom were both very characterful, elegant and comfortable. The food is exceptional both in its preparation and presentation.

Fantastic overall, very unusual and romantic. A superb view from the restaurant. Very private and secluded atmosphere despite its location in the very heart of the old city. Exceptional and personal service. Very relaxing on all accounts

GreeceI didn't like the quality of the breakfast. My main problem was the bathtub. You had to climb two steps and then almost jump to get in. Very dangerous for people of a certain age (I'm 60).
The atmosphere at Imaret is exceptional. The building is beautiful, and the view amazing. I didn't use the spa, but next time I will certainly do. The dinner was good. The staff was excellent.

AustraliaThe facility is limited by the property itself with dark poorly lit rooms with no view. The beds are hard and uncomfortable and the hot water smells of kerosene. There is no fixed shower head just a handheld shower over the bath. The dinner is overpriced.
Interesting historical property in a good location with exceptional staff. Excellent breakfast.

GreeceThe business is run poorly. Is is supposed to be a hamam / spa resort, however the facilities were simply not available because they were relying on a single person to run it and sadly that person had an emergency. Extremely slow service and total lack of empathy.
The place is majestic, the building and location are magnificent and the quality of the restoration is superb.

BulgariaThe price is exorbitant for what you get. The property is a cultural heritage and needs maintenance by the owner (I guess the Egyptian state) and the manager, which IMO is not enough. Some of the furnitures looked not antique but old and not maintained with proper care. The included breakfast is not up to the standard defined by the price for your stay. For this price the half a bottle Champagne in the mini bar should be a compliment drink and not 75 € above. Instead you pay extra 5€ and 7€ even for mineral water bottles (by the way there was no price list in the room). There is no coffee machine with capsules, which is a standard in most of the hotels (we always bring our own but left it in the car). No parking nearby. They offer a valet service for 80€ and take the car somewhere (we skipped it). The many cats who live on site behave like masters and IMO their company in the dining place is inappropriate. All fauteuils are dressed in white and their lower backside is yellowed by the male cats marking habits. Smoking is forbidden in the outside dining area but they allow cats and keep a cage with shouting parrots. The pots on shelves next the well served dining tables are ugly with gardenias full of lice. The 5 course menu of the dinner upon their choice is pricey, meager, and not to everyone taste. Wine is extremely overpriced.
A historical oasis in the prime location of the historical center of Kavala, quiet and relaxing. Like a time machine journey 2 centuries back and away from the busy, noisy, 21st century outside world, bursting with cars, tavernas, coffee bars, souvenir shops, an hungry sightseeing crowds. Inside you forget that you are part of the outside. The Imaret suit (the top accommodation type) provides enough space, marvelous internal architecture and spacious private terrace with the best views to the sea, and Kavala port and town. If the outside noise from the ferries and trucks bothers, you step back inside behind the 1.5 meters walls, you draw curtains, light the many candles and/or lights and relax in silence or listen to a Callas disc on an 90s casette/disk player . Should you feel need for a walk you can stroll the enormous internal space and explore the niches, fountains, gardens, pool and admire the architecture in the company of many cats who feel and behave like masters of the place. The whole property is magnificent. Staff is polite.
