Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThere wasno fridge in the room. There was a communal small bar fridge out in the hallway though. Our room (107) had no shower screen or curtain so taking a shower was not really all that comfortable as the water went everywhere. These are the only small criticisms I have.
The look and feel of Cecil hotel was fantastic. A throw back to a time when style was just as important as function. The location is perfect, walking distance to all that Athens has to offer.

United KingdomThere could be chairs and tables on the rooftop to create a nice garden for the guests. Breakfast could offer more variety
Centrally located not far from the Acropolis, single room with a double bed, breakfast included. The room was spacious, clean, and cozy.

United KingdomI had a few mozzie confrontations during the night.
I especially love these classic Greek hotels, for their beautifully timeless interiors and comfort. The Cecil is a great example. I simply loved staying there. The breakfast area was especially beautiful in the early morning.

We returned to overnight before flying home at the end of our holiday. We were given the same room as two weeks previously (which I reviewed so little more to add). As we were in the room longer we wondered if we could get a second fob for the electricity in the connecting room - the room with all the convenient plug sockets. We now realised they have removed the power facility in that side - so no working lights/sockets. So if you are a party of more than 2 given room 109 you should note this. And that you’ll be sharing one socket in the main room between you. And not by the bed. And anyone needing the bathroom in the night will be switching on the lights on your side. Fortunately we carried an adapter with 4 usb/plug so made it work.

AustraliaAn absolute perfect position. only a few hundred metres walk to everything. Including Monastiraki Square, and station to Airport and Port. Great view of Acropolis from the rooftop. Room was small, but comfortable and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was adequate. Staff were friendly. Excellent value for money stay that I would definitely recommend.

RomaniaFor the money, the bathroom was sub par. NO shower curtain which makes it very messy to take a shower, basically it is impossible to do it without wetting the entire floor. On the other hand the room was somewhat decent and tge staff was kind enough.
Location was very good Kind staff

United KingdomOn this occasion we had what we think was a family room. A twin bedroom linked to a double. The double had one power socket whilst the twin had a socket by each bed. However we had one power fob so if we used the twin side with the convenient sockets we had no power on the other side/bathroom. We arrived really late and had an early start so we just left it, otherwise we would have requested another fob from reception.
Location is great. We tend to always chose this hotel for an overnight in Athens on arrival/leaving. It’s not fancy but it’s clean, convenient & safe. A basic breakfast is included and always enjoyable. The staff have always been friendly.

New ZealandLocation is easy walking distance from the Monastiraki stop on M3 from the airport. And walking distance to most tourist sites. The beds were comfortable enough, the room had air conditioning if needed, and also breakfast was available. For the price it was ok. Although bathroom was tiny, the door opens onto the hand basin. Not sure if all rooms are like that, or the proprietor puts people who book through booking.com in the small rooms. The only problem, as said on other reviews, is no hot water for much of the day which I would think is a basic for any hotel. I managed a shower late afternoon as the water was warm enough, but that isn’t ideal. We couldn’t shower before leaving for the day. Maybe not a problem in hot weather. Other reviews noted smell in bathroom, I guess this is because old hotel. Wasn’t pleasant smell but was only there occasionally.
