Fantastic period style with modern fittings. Extremely comfortable and spacious rooms and this hotel has an excellent restaurant / bistro. Highly recommended.

I originally booked on booking.com but when I checked weeks later it only had one adult on there so I had to upgrade to add the other person and was quite a hike in the price unfortunately

The restaurant pizzas are not brilliant, they are too doughy and needed longer to cook.

It has a quiet, relaxed feel. Plenty of space to sit and watch the day go by. Outdoor, comfortable seating was perfect for the warm spring evening on the lawn, then when the temperature dropped we were provided with blankets to extend the outdoor peace. Perfect proximity to the university for visiting our daughter. This was our second visit and I hope to come back one day.

It would be good to provide cushions for the outside chairs as they were rather cold to ones bottom. Apart from that the view was excellent.

The room was very comfortable. The coffee in the room was a bit strong. The only other thing I would say is that it’s a bit daft only being able to switch off both bedside lamps and not only one at a time.

The bus from and to train station is not often and I am not sure about the availability at night. Probably provide a transport to and from train station?

I recently enjoyed a wonderful staycation at Wivenhoe House and were thoroughly impressed. The location was perfect - easy to find and inside the University of Essex, where I need to visit. The house itself is stunning, with a mix of traditional charm and modern touches. My room was spacious and luxurious, with a very comfortable bed and a gorgeous bathroom. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making me feel welcome and relaxed throughout our stay. I particularly enjoyed the breakfast at the Brasserie restaurant - delicious meals with excellent service. Overall, I had a fantastic experience at Wivenhoe House and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a relaxing and enjoyable getaway. I will definitely be back!

Restaurant. Night service was maybe a good-, more like a poor. Hard to get anyone's attention. abruptly positioned in an awkward location despite a nearly empty dining room. Food was average. Took forever to get staff attention to close out the bill. I can deal with mediocre food if the service is great. Mediocre food with less than brilliant service...I'll make the effort to eat before arriving next time and forego the breakfast.

Manager at the hotel was brilliant good at what she does. Answered all our questions arranged a late table for dinner for us. Rooms were very comfortable. Parking right at hand was excellent as well
