Main entrance being refurbished - used side entrance. Parking very tight for larger cars.

Nice period large room. Good shower. Large TV. Fresh fruit and water. Bar and grounds nice and secluded in the middle of the city. Friendly staff.

Very hard to find personnel at reception, every time I had to wait several minutes before someone showed up, and on check out there was a young lady really slow in the procedure. The room carpet was really old and worn Big spiderwebs on the windows

Great location, beautiful setting, the garden is amazing

Parking information deceptive - implied free parking (Booking.com needs greater transparency on this point in general). Once booked a £12 per night charge was revealed on a first come first served basis. When we arrived this had gone up to £15 - well over 10% of the whole hotel cost.

Lovely quiet location right in the heart of Winchester. Nice room with a view over the green. Comfortable bed.

The bedrooms are tired and in need of refurbishment. Not a great view from our windows. Probably better to ask for a garden view.

Great location in heart of Winchester. Walking distance to Cathedral, shops and restaurants. Lovely walled garden at rear of the property, perfect for a relaxing drink or lunch. Good buffet breakfast selection.

A bit of confusion over the deposit but sorted & our room faced a building that seemed to be occupied by some unscrupulous people. Plus paying to park £12 a night this was the first time we've ever paid to park at a hotel.

Very nice staff. Clean & tidy. Nice hugh bed. Took cash unlike some places we've stayed. Good location near the shops market pubs etc. would stay again.

No safe in room. Rooms have no air-conditioning so a fan would be needed in hot weather .But during our stay it was comfortable. Also rooms would be better with double glazing

Staff excellent. Especially the lady managing the breakfast. Rooms are clean and comfortable.

Reception were a little pre-occupied, so that service could have been more attentive. The lady looking after breakfast was probably the friendliest service experienced during the stay though. Car parking in the city is a bonus - but spaces do get filled very quickly, and with a larger vehicle, some of the parking would be tricky.

The room was very clean and well appointed, with a big bathroom with bath, although for all the space, I have jumpers bigger than that shower cubical. Self-serve breakfast was a highlight - the choice was excellent. Location is just around the corner from the centre of the city - so perfect. It was also a quiet hotel, so I had a great sleep.

Breakfast even though we booked an allocated time. On the first morning there was no bread or eggs we had to ask for these to be refreshed after waiting 15 minutes as no staff to be found. Although this was a blip it didn't spoil a great weekend

Bedroom hot and stuffy, no air-con. Dirty curtains. Dessert for dinner was seriously overpriced for a ridiculously small serving of “pannacotta”, which was so gelatinous it was a milk jelly. Shame really as the main was delicious. The lounge could be a fabulous room but needs a serious makeover and some colour! Clean, but sparse and not cosy.

Friendly and helpful smiley staff. Bedroom good size and relatively clean. Very helpful regarding accommodating our (large) dog. Very good about our gluten free diet. Excellent main courses for dinner. Good choice of food for breakfast (even gf cereal).

The mattresses in our room were very worn and uncomfortable, they ideally needed to be replaced. The lunch of sandwiches was overpriced for not the tastiest sandwiches and undercooked chips . There was nowhere to safely leave our luggage, we were shown an open room where anyone could have wandered in and taken it. Had to then take luggage around town which wasn't ideal.

staff were friendly, room location was great , overlooking garden. Breakfast was pleasant.

Restocking some of the breakfast items was slower on the final day, but this was due to the dining room being very busy.

This was the perfect location for a trip away at Winchester. The hotel is within walking distance of the main attractions and only 5 minutes walk away from the Cathedral. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Winchester Royal Hotel. It was also close to the train station which was essential as I did not have a car. The staff were friendly, allowing me to leave my bag at reception before check in time and after checking out on my final day (as my train wasn't until after noon). The breakfast buffet was also good each morning.
