Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe room is quite small and there is barely any space to put our luggage. The property suggested it was a HOTEL but it gives a more HOSTEL like feel. Shared bathrooms, showers, pantry etc. And the photos are quite far from what the real thing is.
The location was great, only 2-3 minutes walk from Stirling train station to the accommodation. And it is fairly close to attractions in Stirling.

New ZealandA warning of the large number of stairs is needed for those with heavy bags. The building was very run down, and felt more like a poor backpackers than a hotel.
The staff were excellent. Very helpful and friendly. The location is excellent, being only 100m from the railway station, and easy to roll cases there.

United KingdomCouldn’t find staff when needed, was given no information at check in or about check out, room was small but ok, and not like the pictures advertised. Wondered why my payment was not taken on arrival, did try to find staff but couldn’t and at 10-10:30pm they came and woke me up banging on door. Was a hostel rather than Hotel (as it’s called in its name) had I known before hand I would not have stayed but that’s not their fault, I should have taken time to read the descriptions.. Other guests rough and ready, noisy and no regard for others (typical hostel/homeless residents it seems) room rate was high considering it being more of a hostel. For not much more could have stayed in actual hotel.. although saying the above the attitude of other guests is not the properties fault again. Needs renovation and legal notice should be in line with guidelines not handwritten scraps of paper, especially emergency evacuation documents which should be within rooms and corridors as well as entrances. Welcome home packs in room would also be welcomed for other guests. And these could contain guidelines etc. Guest areas dirty and clearly not clean, rooms cleanish, but may be advisable to dust and get cobwebs!! And deffo check under beds. Ultimately it does the job but a lot needs to be done and reviewed and addressed if you are looking to charge the rates you do! Constructive criticism! Hopefully they take it on board!
Good Location for train station and town.

United KingdomHi, I occupied room 15 last night at the William Wallace HOSTEL. I tried to check out at 9.45 this morning, no one was at reception or anywhere else. I had to go back to my car to pick up my wallet and phone. I returned to the hostel (it’s not a hotel) at 10.10 and rang the bell three times. I waited and no answer, there was a homeless person sitting on the steps asking me for money so I left. As checking out time is 10AM why isn’t reception occupied by staff? The room was okay (ish), 15 rooms and 1 bathroom is not acceptable. Two sinks in the bathroom one was taped off and the other was blocked. None of the locks in the shower room door or toilet cubicles actually locked. The locks served no purpose at all.
The bed was comfortable, that’s all I can think off. The HOSTEL is quite run down and not properly maintained. One bathroom between fifteen rooms IS NOT ACCEPTABLE for a £51 overnight stay.

United KingdomI'm glad I arrived at 10pm and needed to be out for 8am. On Booking.com the accommodation was called The William Wallace Hotel. The I arrived it noticed that the sign says William Wallace Back packers hotel. Expectations of a backpackers hotel is much lower but I don't believe that was clear from the listing. I knew the bathroom was shared but I didn't realise that that would include the water in the shower which hadn't run away in time from the previous person who had used it 10 minutes earlier. The water was also slow to run away in the sinks and there was little in the way of toilet roll. On leaving I couldn't find any staff so I had to leave my key on the floor outside the reception door. So it was fortunate that I wasn't relying on staff to replenish toilet roll. Paint in the show room was flaking off the ceiling and the locks on toilet cubicles are on the inside of doors which open outwards... and therefore are pointless. If the door is locked you can pull it open and the lock does nothing. At £40 it was lo-cost but I wouldn't have knowingly paid £40 for this "hotel" and won't be returning. Finally, it wasn't a big deal to me – it was actually quite entertaining – but the high street (I was there on a Wednesday evening) is quite noisy. There's a club across the street and I witnesses to separate women fights. I can sleep through anything so it wasn't a problem but it might be for some. I'm glad I arrived at 10pm and needed to be out for 8am.
The majority of the cost must be based on the convenience of the location. The hotel is in the centre of the town and I was less than 10 minutes drive to where I was spending the day for work.

United Kingdom( I hope I am wrong with this one but I will tell what I think anyway) : The receptionist (M) told me on the 2nd evening of my stay that my there was a problem with my booking, that my booking agent had made a mistake and booked only for one night. He said he has spoken to the owner to let me stay if I pay him. I said its impossible because I booked through booking.com. He asked me to show the receipt I showed him emails and said I have a printed confirmation that I could bring. He asked me to send screenshots on Whatsapp, I said I wasn't comfortable sharing my number so he took picture from his phone. He said I hope you weren't offended, but to be honest it all sounded a lie to get a tourist to pay more. When I came back with the printed confirmation, he said he is sorry but the error was with some other customer who had left and showed me from a distance a Whatsapp conversation in his phone with the "owner" apparently saying I was okay and the problem had been with other customer. All of this sounded hoax to me and a way of extracting money because on the first evening itself he knew I had my booking for 2 nights. I highly doubt his claims and the matter should be looked into by the owners. The 2nd bathroom of the floor I was on was dirty-all toilets. My dorm didn't have any dustbin. The receptionist didn't give me pillow covers and bedsheets on arrival. I also had to separately ask him for toilet paper.
Location was central, the room had adequate heating, the kitchen and living room areas seemed nice

United KingdomFalse advertising, this a hostel not a hotel . On arrival there was a drunk man sitting on the entrance steps where he’d been sick. One shower for all the rooms so didn’t get to use before we left. Paper thin walls so we were kept awake until 6am due to adjacent room having a party. Whole building very run down , certainly wouldn’t have children staying there

United KingdomThis is not a hotel. It is a hostel. There is only one shower for 15 bedrooms and it is unisex. There are only 2 toilets for the same 15 rooms, also unisex. This is not a safe arrangement for lone single females. Also this establishment does not comply with basic hotel safety requirements in Scotland, as previous travellers have pointed out. Whilst the room was clean, communal areas were dirty including shared bathroom area. It is clear that there is improvement work going on, and my bedroom looked freshly decorated, but until the bathroom situation is resolved they should not be marketing themselves as a hotel on Booking.com.
Very central location. Comfortable bed and room was clean. Good wifi.
