Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Poland-One (yes one!) toilet for all male guests of the building (which has around 32 places) is simply unacceptable -Unstaffed remote building - when firealarm started in the early morning it took ca. 30 mins of the annoying noise till someone came to fix the issue -Slamming doors to the kitchen -Very basic and worn out rooms -Damaged road to access the property
+Directions to nearest breakfast place fixing the problem of no breakfast at the premises +Spacious parking down the hill +Self check-in possible

The lovely view. It was fine as a place to sleep for one night. It had all the things we needed to heat up some food and make a cup of tea.

Great facilities for 15 of us to rest before starting the 3 peaks the following day. Perfect place to rest between exploring a beautiful area. Staff communication was excellent and check in and out was very clear and easy to follow.

United StatesThere should be a large sign on the road that says "WEST HIGHLAND LODGE -- CHECK IN AT BLACKWATER". There were several groups came in then found out like we did, have to hike down cross town to Blackwater Hostel to get the key. Other than that, all good!

AustraliaWe were a little disappointed that the WiFi was not working, and ever after someone came to look at it, we could not use it. I think that part of the service offering needs to be sorted promptly. The mattresses could do with an upgrade but it was OK for one night!
Location, views, common area for cooking and eating all excellent. We really liked the West highland lodge and was probably one of our favourite accommodations on the hike.

Czech RepublicDuring daytime hours noise propagated throughout the building especially noticeable when the kitchen door was opened due to the aggressive door closing mechanism which effectively slammed the door. Also noise easily transmitted from adjacent rooms (thankfully everybody was respectful of the 11pm quiet hours rule). Expensive for solo travelers because you have to pay for a whole dorm (minimum size 4 beds) due to no sharing policy.
Quiet nights sleep. Well equipped self catering kitchen. Relaxing communal lounge.

SlovakiaNothing.
This was one of our stays on the West Highland Way trip. Amazing view from the room, a very picturesque town, you have there everything you need. We were very lucky with the weather and we watched a huge storm while already in the room. There is a nice shared equipped kitchen with everything you need, multple shared toilets and showers plus a large common area.

Germany- No staff on site. Pray for quiet and considerate neighbours. - The management of the drying room is low-key insulting. They say they operate it on wet days, but that's a kick in the face for everyone who wants to dry wet laundry on a non-rainy day. It's just cheap and offensive to paying customers. - There's a room with a laundry machine and a dryer but they're staff only and you're not supposed to use them. Why not offer this as a service for money? Oh wait, yes - you would need staff on site for that. Well ... - rooms too small for the luggage of 4.
- The kitchen was phenomenal, I haven't seen such a well-equipped kitchen in any of the WHW hostels! - For better or worse, you book the full room with all 4 beds. That's nice and cheap for a group of 4, but ridiculously expensive if you're alone. At least no noisy roommates? - Showers had a little wall that separated the dressing space from the water. That's nice. - Bathrooms were clean enough - Opportunity to hang wet clothes out in the sun on a laundry rag with clothespins. - I slept actually pretty ok on the mattress but I'm a freak.

United KingdomAdditional charge for towels which had to be reserved day before. One couple who stayed at the same time as us hadn't realised this so had no towels. There is no reception/staff at the lodge so not easy to get any issues resolved. Room very basic and a bit tired for price. Drying room not especially effective. Wasn't on when we arrived and didn't warm sufficiently overnight when switched on by staff. Unfortunately our stay was spoilt a bit as a large group arrived at 1.30 in the morning and were very loud waking us up and then were very loud again at 6am when they got up. They also comondered the communal areas.
Good size room. Pre arrival information very clear and helpful Staff very friendly and helpful Good self catering facilities including tea and coffee. Good shower/ toilet facilities and communal dining area both of which seems to have been updated recently.

United KingdomYou can hear everything. We stayed in room 2 which was just across from the ladies bathroom - you could hear people using the door and the hand drier through the night. You could also hear everyone’s voices and sadly people are often up chatting away past 10pm and up before 5am. This meant it was hard to get to sleep and easy to be woken up. One caveat is that I am a light sleeper so that doesn’t help. If I had to stay again I would try to pick another room.
Lovely location overlooking the main town and mountains, easy system to pick up the keys from the hostel, showers were excellent (hot and great pressure) and clean. It’s quite noisy and the beds were a little hard.
