Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThis townhome was absolutely perfect in everyway. The decor is stunning and so well done. Carole, our host, was amazing and gave us such great recommendations on places to go and things to see. She was so kind and had great stories to tell. We loved our morning breakfasts overlooking gorgeous gardens and also loved having access to a few sweet treats at night. If we ever go back to Edinburgh, we would absolutely stay here.

United StatesThe West End location was so clean and quiet with beautiful architecture and history. Our hostess Carole was so gracious and helpful. She made sure we had all our individual needs met including my special dietary restriction. She even packed a sack breakfast for us to go on our early checkout morning. In our short time we felt like we had become friends, even family. The views of the gardens and green space and beyond from our bedroom were gorgeous. The place so quiet and lovely remodeled. Thank you Carole. Blessings.

United StatesWe had an amazing view of the water of leith walkway from the spacious Deluxe King room. The hotel is in a beautifully restored townhouse close to some of the main streets of Edinburgh. Carole was an excellent, friendly, and informative host, and she made us feel at like we were at home our whole stay. We had plenty of breakfast options every morning and Carole herself would make something extra each day. The location is pretty central (only few minutes walk from one of the ends of Princes St), but still distant enough from the bustle to be perfectly quiet in the evening.

GermanyWest End Townhouse is a unique experience. You enjoy the intimacy, warmth and privacy of a B&B on the level of a 5-star hotel. Perfectly situated to explore Edinburgh, looked after by Carole more like a friend than a landlady, elegant and comfortable rooms, stunning views … It was the perfect start for our Scotland trip.

4 Randolf Ciff is close to the city center, very easily accessible by public transport, but the old town can also be easily reached by pleasant walks. Spacious, comfortable room, beautiful view of the city. Carole and her daughter are very kind and attentive hosts. All our wishes were fulfilled.

GermanyNothing - we loved everything.
We had a wonderful stay in the West End Townhouse! The location is just perfect, everything is within walking distance. The owners keep the charm and character of the residence, but everything is functional, and we had a very nice, modern bathroom. Our spacious room had a wonderful view overlooking beautiful gardens and the firth of forth, and it was absolutely quiet. A fantastic breakfast is served in the beautiful kitchen overlooking the garden and the green valley. The host family is very friendly, and takes great care to ensure that guests feel welcome.

United KingdomBeautiful spot, with gorgeous decorations and extremely comfortable rooms. My parents stayed here for three nights at the start of their tour around Scotland and loved every moment of their stay. Both Carol and her daughter Ruth looked after them very well. The grandeur of the building is matched only by the incredible views out over Edinburgh!

United StatesWe loved everything. We live in a city and are used to steep hills and lots of stairs so the lack of a lift was not a concern but if mobility is an issue, be aware that you must carry luggage up several flights.
The home was situated in a lovely, quiet part of town. It was an easy walk to George street for restaurants and shopping. The home is immaculate and while it has been updated, the owners kept the charm and character of the 200 plus year old residence. The host is friendly and takes great care to ensure that guests feel welcome. She serves breakfast in the morning at a lovely table overlooking a beautiful garden. The rooms are quiet and delightfully furnished. There are crisp white linens and fluffy towels - very nice experience.

United StatesN/A, read above for things to keep in mind
Carole created the most ideal B&B stay for my friend and I. The B&B room was much larger than any hotel we looked at in the area, and kept much better. Carole also went above and beyond, constantly checking to see how we were doing, worked with us to ensure we were able to travel comfortably, and even packed a HUGE picnic for my friend and I when she found out we were going to the highlands. Lastly the area of the B&B was perfect. A simple walk to the town center, Dean Village, and Stockbridge. TBH - I wondered how the ratings could be so high on this listing, and had some reservations, but by the end of the trip, I understood why. Make sure to check out Basement Gelato, only a couple blocks away! If you are looking for a hotel experience, this is not it, but I will say, as someone who has stayed in many hotels, this was far better. A friend of mine stayed at the Kimpton, which is in the same neighborhood, two weeks before, and her room was a fraction of the size for more money. Things to keep in mind: No takeout food in the rooms, there is a huge/gorgeous kitchen you can use, to ensure the rooms stay clean. If you need extra towels or anything, ask Carole, she is super attentive, but wants you to have privacy so will not come into your room during your stay. This is a property from the 1700s, so there is no elevator, and you use a key for entry and exit to preserve the historic building.

BelgiumReally nothing
If there is a ranking of exceptional hostesses in Scotland, host Carole beats them all with ease. We were given a very warm welcome and it immediately felt like coming home. We got the best breakfast place in the beautiful kitchen overlooking the valley of green Stockbridge. Ideally located if you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the city centre yet within walking distance of the sights. We immediately fell for the charm of the Victorian house's interior. Slept wonderfully in the soft bed and had the best shower of our 10 days road trip. Only one little remark might be the single glazing which meant the street was sometimes audible (if you book the room in frontside) but in nothing compared to the bustle of the city centre. Carole was always happy to see and serve us with an authentic funny flair. No wonder that the biggest plus asset to book here is Carole herself. She is so friendly, shows interest and enjoys a short chat. And at breakfast-time she shows off her hostess skills to the full. Even received a little chocolat box to apologize for a missing towel on the day of arriving… Breakfast choice is almost unlimited: cereals, tasty toast with seeds, croissants, several yoghurts, freshly cut fruit (with the tastiest raspberries I have ever eaten), quality cheeses and cold meats, scrambled egg, home-made jam, fruit juice, coffee and various teas. And on our last morning, we were even offered slices of Scottish salmon fillet. There are no beter words to expres how royally we were served then: “The experience of staying as she would like it herself she said” (because the whole B&B picture was right spot-on for us). We will sincerely miss her and our stay was unforgetable and the very best end we could wish for on our first roadtrip in Scotland!!

United StatesWe liked everything. Our room was up two floors, but we got used to climbing and it was worth for the views. Every place we stayed at during our trip through the UK had very tall and steep stairs, but the ones in the West End Georgian townhouse were wide and comfortable. Even with bad knees we could climb them.
Fantastic host, beautiful restored Georgian home, the best breakfast you could imagine, incredible views over the river and all the way to the sea, central location, extremely clean, a truly luxurious large room and bathroom.
