Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI struggle to find anything I did not like sorry
This is a very quirky property. The entrance to the parking is quite tight but we had no problems. The conversion of the Byre has been beautifully and very cleverly done. The shower room is up an interesting staircase - this is not the place for anyone with mobility issues but otherwise this is a beautiful property. I would not hesitate in returning. The host Alun was fantastic and super helpful. We loved being able to charge our Tesla and the costs were reasonable and the breakfasts were perfect for us

United KingdomI can’t think of anything really, it was fabulous.
Townfoot Byre is a gorgeous, cosy and secluded little stay nestled away in prime position in the Lake District. We stayed here for two nights and were just smitten with it. The Byre is many centuries old with delightfully thick walls and period features, yet it has been furnished with top of the range appliances and mod cons. The kitchen was very well stocked with teas, coffee, butter and fresh milk, alongside bread and jams, which was much appreciated. Super fast WiFi and a nice big TV also. The location is wonderful being just 5-10 minutes from Windermere and with many country walks as soon as you step out. Overall, I would very strongly recommend the Byre if you are seeking a cosy getaway in the Lake District with attentive hosts and at a very attractive price point. Super happy we stayed here!

United KingdomThe ramp up to the parking is a little sketchy without a wooden fence or barrier on the road side as there’s a rather high drop and the ramp is a little narrow but manageable
Alun was an amazing host checking in to make sure we are comfortable during our stay. The facilities were immaculate and well stocked. A very short 5 min drive to the lake itself or a 20 min walk and with the complimentary health club included in the price it’s a bargain. Although the health club isn’t on site it does provide a Gym, Sauna, Steam room and hot tub all very nice. All in all me and my partner had a great evening and would love to stay again.

United KingdomThe gym was a 25min walk along a country road with no path. The fire door on stairs made getting to bathroom difficult for taller people. Parking was available but not in an easy spot to park in.
Location was good. The accomodation was cosy. Scenery was lovely.

United KingdomI personally couldn’t find anything I disliked the only thing that someone could possibly dislike is the tricky parking if your not used to small country roads and bends.
The property was a nice beautiful tucked away place in the hills with gorgeous views of the hills and valleys, very peaceful at night. The inside was very clean very tidy and well organised.

Everything was absolutely perfect!! The host Alun went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful from start to finish, this stunning property with beautiful views is spotlessly clean , breakfast provided, very warm and cosy and a great base for walks and trips to enjoy the local area, we loved the quirkiness of the property and can highly recommend a stay here! We stayed for 2 nights and literally had the perfect honeymoon stay here! Thank you again Alun, townfoot Byre is stunning in every way!!

United KingdomIt would be nice to have lighting near the door from the outside. It was difficult to find the lock .
Good location for hiking. The surroundings are nice and quiet. The building itself is old but the room is stylish and large. Comfortable bed. Clean, well-equipped kitchen. Breakfast wasn't to our liking, but you can visit a local shop and buy things for sandwiches. The steep stairs were a challenge, so older people or people with mobility issues should think about another place. Like another reviewer, we think the driveway to the parking is narrow but your car is in a safe place behind the house.

United KingdomBathroom was not on the same level but on the floor above with access via a steep set of stone stairs, not conducive when having to use in the middle of the night. Parking area was narrow and a steep incline, where you have to reverse out which is difficult in the dark in a large vehicle. There are no cooking facilities, only a microwave and toaster.
Nice comfortable bed, warm and clean. Enjoyed the use of the leisure centre/spa facilities included as part of the stay.
